gilly my maternal family come from Howarth.

All weavers. The graveyard is heaving with them. Nasty brutish short life.

Love the joke lemon I’ve just copied and pasted it to some dear friends, Yorkshire born and bred.

They live in a little town called ‘Idle’ and believe it or not there’s an ‘Idle Working Men’s Club’‼️

Don’t mess with a with a woman from Yorkshire !! ?

MaxiBialystock Thu 01-Aug-19 11:06:00

Combine Yorkshire Day and Swiss National Day by going to Bettys! I live deep in enemy territory (Manchester) but I've just remembered I have two Fat Rascals in the freezer. Happy day to you all. X

Sadly, I don't think "Emmerdale" advertises Yorkshire at it's best......

lemongrove Thu 01-Aug-19 11:23:56

Haworth is very commercialised now ( but where isn’t.)
As a child I remember a teashop but little else for tourists other than The Black Bull pub.

Thanks merlot ?

I know Idle Urmston grin I used to live very near there.

lemongrove Thu 01-Aug-19 11:25:10

I haven’t watched Emmerdale since it was called Emmerdale Farm ( by heck that’s going back a bit.)

gillybob Thu 01-Aug-19 11:28:50

I was just about to say "NO.... J52 Chris Rea does not come from Yorkshire" Then the penny dropped. Middlesbrough is Yorkshire grin

We might be distantly related through marriage Whitewave grin

DH has lived here in Geordieland for a very long time but there are still small hints of Yorkshire twang every now and again. I could barely understand his father though.

I loved your post Yorksherlass,it made me laugh and laugh so much so that I sent it to my sister who is just about to move to Yorkshire - maybe I should have sent it to her husband !

Yorksherlass Thu 01-Aug-19 11:45:56

tiredoldwoman glad it gave you a giggle x

I have just come back from a fortnight's holiday 'at home' in sunny Doncaster to my exile in Wiltshire - I cannot really afford to live here now and am contemplating being mortgage free and coming 'home' ... I left when I was 18 and have lived all over the UK, bt as they say, "there's no place like 'ome"! My accent has got stronger over the 2 weeks, but up there, apparently I sound 'posh', ha, ha!

Janiepops Thu 01-Aug-19 11:53:20

Lemon grove, go on Amazon, type in ‘Twerp’ on a coffee mug’, loads come up all styles colours etc

Happy Yorkshire Day!

My Mum was born in Northallerton and my Dad in East Witton. I'm the youngest of five and all my siblings were born in North Yorkshire but my family moved South before I was born. I'll never forgive them for making me a Southerner!! grin

Mmm...curd tarts and proper fish and chips

Urmstongran Thu 01-Aug-19 12:02:32

I loved your joke Yorksherlass

Brilliant!!

trendygran Thu 01-Aug-19 12:03:58

Born and brought up in Yorkshire. Now stuck in the Midlands ,but my heart will always be in that wonderful county. Immediately feel ‘right’ on the much too infrequent times I manage to get back there.
Horrified to see the extent of flooding in Leyburn and Reeth and North Yorkshire in general. Not such a good ‘Yorkshire Day ‘ for residents there.

dragonfly46 Thu 01-Aug-19 12:14:17

I too am a Yorkshire girl born and bred.

My dad taught Geoff Boycott and bowled him out too!

I love Robin Hoods Bay and the Yorkshire Dales, especially Swaledale, Yorkshire pudding and curd tart.

My gran used to have supper at 10pm at night with teacakes and cheese - not really the thing to go to bed on but the menfolk were often on nights.

I am so proud I can play cricket for Yorkshire!!!

Yorksherlass Thu 01-Aug-19 12:17:36

urmstongran thanks , we all need a laugh ?

Boolya Thu 01-Aug-19 12:18:45
