They would obviously like more "control" of the press. They have punished the UK by showing the baby first in South Africa rather than the UK.

Those of us who are not the slightest bit interested in this family would hardly regard this as a punishment. I read this thread because I am interested in the views of others on this subject and why they think as they do.

It wasn’t a punishment , it was a snub to the many , there are
people who knit gifts for a Windsor baby.

Greenfinch, like you, I don't feel at all punished, but as Anniebach says, it's a snub for all those who do care.
My personal feeling is that if you want privacy, fine... give up the public purse (and the platforms that go with it) and get on with your life.

Do the people who knit gifts for Royal babies really think that these babes will ever wear them? Especially nowadays.
They will all be donated to hospitals, charities, whatever. I doubt if Kate and Meghan have any idea what has been sent to them.

Why would anyone knit for a Royal baby when there are children in Africa and elsewhere desperately in need of clothes ?

I don’t know why people knit for the babies, same as I don’t know why so many laid flowers when Diana died .

I suppose lonely people feel over invested in a family that couldn't give a about them. Sort of sad really.

I think with Diana, there was some element of shock .

It is an assumption to assume that those who have knitted something for the new baby, don’t knit for anyone else.

Diana's death was a massive shock. A baby which the public knew was coming 6 months in advance, is not a shock.

Anyhow, I really don't care. The RF neither bother me nor vastly interest me.

I suppose I favour hard working Anne, who fits into those 1970's tweeds and Meghan because she seems a bit of a laugh.

Diana really wasnt that universally popular in the run up to her death. She had her fans but it wasnt particularly cool to be one!

I think at the time society felt the urge or need to come together ot collectively emote or something. I do not think that eve half of those tears were acually for Di! There was a lot of emotion but it was kind of contagous. And at the time the RF was NOT in favour so grieving for Di was almost a two fingers to the others.. like taking a side against them!

Also a little bit there was an eliment of Di having the best security/healthcare/etc money can buy and she STILL died so we all felt a little more mortal!

I suspect the public sympathy shown when Diana died was linked to recognising she may have been born into a wealthy privileged family but she didn't have an easy time as a child. Then she married at 19, with little life experience or support, to a man much older and more experienced than she could possibly have been.
She lived in a goldfish bowl and began to use the media in order to find some positive press for herself. Not unusual behaviour for someone in the public eye.
She died in a ridiculous car accident that shouldn't have happened when a drunk driver was part of a ridiculous attempt to avoid the parrapazi. She left two young boys without a mother and you'd have to be without empathy not to feel sad about it all.
It was unusual in England for such an outpouring of feelings to be shown. Nononan has a good point that her death reminded us life can change in a second no matter how wealthy or privileged people may be. Just like the rest of us really

Diana was the first celebrity in the royal family . The Windsors were not popular at that time because they were seen the as the villains and Diana was seen as their victim.

All we know of her marriage is what she said publicly, I have
much sympathy for her because in my opinion she was mentally ill, I also have sympathy for those who had to cope
with her illness and I do speak with experience of what this
can do to families.

I think it was a fact that a of people simply loved Diana, and felt sad and angry about the way Charles treated her. And how she was used by controlling people behind the royal family.

She was very easy to love. She was beautiful, charming, caring, and brave.

We only know ‘how Charles treated her’ from the media and what she claimed, Charles has never spoken of that time.

I think the "what is love" comment spoke reams. And we do know that Camilla was always present in the marriage.
