Mr Corbyn considers when the Queen completes her reign it would be an appropriate time to call it a day and have an elected head of state.

Callistemon Sun 24-Nov-19 21:26:51

It is well-known that Corbyn is and always was a republican.
In 1991 he seconded a bill calling for an elected president.

However, just like his views on the EU, he will be fence sitting at the moment.

Where's the other thread gone? The one that says it's a lie?

First you see it, then you don't. Odd. confused

Callistemon Sun 24-Nov-19 21:29:22

Is there another thread?
confused

Gonegirl Sun 24-Nov-19 21:30:59

I swear I didn't dream it. Under Site Stuff. "A thread started with a lie".

Think I'm going bonkers. confused

Callistemon Sun 24-Nov-19 21:31:10

Could be this one, lie or lied has been mentioned nine (9) times so far on this thread

Chewbacca Sun 24-Nov-19 21:31:38

Zapped in the blink of an eye Gonegirl. GNHQ are on the ball tonight! grin

Gonegirl Sun 24-Nov-19 21:32:07

Crikey!

Gonegirl Sun 24-Nov-19 21:32:33

At least I didn't imagine it. Phew!

Callistemon Sun 24-Nov-19 21:33:01

Is this a thread about a non-existent thread?

grin

Iam64 Sun 24-Nov-19 21:34:34

I've consulted Google and I can't find anywhere reporting that Mr Corbyn calls for an end to the Monarchy when the Queen dies.

This OP is therefore either telling a big fat fib or repeating fake news.

Surely if there is to be (another) thread aimed at listing all the awful things about Mr Corbyn, the OP could find something accurate to accuse him of.

Can be seen on GMTV on line

www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1206665/election-2019-news-jeremy-corbyn-labour-boris-johnson-itv-leadership-debate-queen

At the bottom of the article

Callistemon Sun 24-Nov-19 21:50:25

He called for the Queen to be the last monarch, called for the end of the monarchy, in an interview on GMTV in 2001.

It's true, it's true, it's true, it's true

He has never given any indication that he has changed his mind.

He's a prevaricater - that at least is true.

Gonegirl Sun 24-Nov-19 21:52:26

No hysterics now Callistemon. grin

Chewbacca Sun 24-Nov-19 21:52:34

A quick Google search found this from Mat 2018:

The hard left Labour leader revealed both he and some Labour MPs would prefer it if the monarchy was abolished.

In a controversial interview, Mr Corbyn said: “I think it’s time that we just moved on.”
“When the Queen completes her reign, wouldn’t that be an appropriate time to call it a day
and have an elected Head of State?” asked Mr Corbyn. “A large majority of Labour MPs
would like to see a change in the attitude of the monarchy and the way the Royal Family operates.”

Corbyn, who was a backbench MP when he made the comments on GMTV in 2001
– revealed that Republicans were a ‘minority’ in the Labour Party.
He predicted the public mood would shift as “public opinion moves more in favour of a complete democracy”.

Sixteen years later, Mr Corbyn’s predictions failed to come true. Earlier this year it was
revealed that 65% of Brits think that the UK should keep the monarchy and Only 19% wanted Britain to become a republic.
27% thought that the Monarchy was a ‘meaningless institution’ and 65% thought there was
still a place for the Monarchy in modern Britain. 70% thought that Britain was perceived more positively abroad due to the Royal Family.

So, it wasn't a lie afterall. It was just old news. Sorry suziewoozie.

Callistemon Sun 24-Nov-19 21:55:40

You're supposed to say it four times, Chewbacca!!

Old news, old news, old news, old news

Just in case so someone didn't get it the first time

Thank you

Chewbacca Sun 24-Nov-19 21:58:43

<hangs head in shame and embarrassment and shuffles out>

Callistemon Sun 24-Nov-19 22:02:06

I meant thank you for the cut and paste Chewbacca smile

Well done!

Iam64 Mon 25-Nov-19 08:44:00

Ah thanks Chewbacca - good summary and I'm so impressed by the cut and paste, its a skill I've failed to manage. Sorry for suggesting anyone was telling Fibs. Also, I'm not surprised at the comments from JC.

I'm watching the latest series of the Crown. The episodes where Harold Wilson is walking a tight rope between the republicans in his party, at the same time encouraging the Queen to make the RF more available to 'the people' felt like serendipity given current events.

sodapop Mon 25-Nov-19 08:50:13

That's ironic Iam64 given the latest events with Prince Andrew.
President Corbyn there's the rub.

Anniebach Mon 25-Nov-19 08:59:50

Charles is in for many problems when the queen dies. Will
Australia, Canada,New Zealand etc opt out?

If we became republican what of the commonwealth?

Urmstongran Mon 25-Nov-19 09:37:39

a lie. So she says.

Gonegirl you’ve just made me choke on my coffee! Your humour is so dry. Love it!

Urmstongran Mon 25-Nov-19 09:38:31

You too Callistemon .... very witty!

Callistemon Mon 25-Nov-19 11:07:53

Anniebach Charles and Camilla are being well received in New Zealand at the moment and despite the Republican movement in Australia, many people were very happy to see Meghan and Harry.

I have no idea about Canada, but anything that avoids them as being seen as similar to their nearest neighbour may appeal. Canadians hate it if people ask if they're from the States!

Callistemon Mon 25-Nov-19 11:11:10

suziewoozie to use your own words:

"What you posted is simply not true. Did you know that? If so, do you think that's acceptable?"
