Right, kitcheners, get busy. You know the routine. The tin of flapjacks to keep you going is in the corner with a kettle. The water's already on.

I have just remembered that I intended to tell you a sweet little encounter at the vets yesterday.
A family came in with a cat named Rosie for her booster like Molly but they had the most adorable 11 week old pug puppy named Mabel.
Pugs are not my favourite breeds but she was gorgeous and I could have kidnapped her.

soop I may have posted that my hairdresser's MiL is currently suing for damage done by a mesh repair.
Just before Christmas she went to a London hospital for an examination under anaesthetic such as you are having.
She is now scheduled for a further op in June.
I dont know the reason for the wait.
I hope you get a good outcome.

soop Wed 15-Jan-20 11:49:19

Good morning my lovely kitcheners. MacSporran's eye appointment was cancelled at breakfast time. He has a cataract ripe for removal. The man who was about to visit Cambeltown to give him an inspection prior to a date for the op' was, thanks to the wind preventing his plane from landing, deferred to another day. Pity my mid afternoon dental appointment couldn't be shelved. I'm such a wimp. blush

Izabella Your photos are beautiful. I can almost feel the sunshine.

feelingmyage Flu is a very nasty condition. Stay warm. Plenty of fluids. No rushing about allowed. Us lot say so.

ann...it goes without saying that Molly was a star. She belongs to you and our kitchen. The vet should have been more gentle and considerate. wink

Maw In "our day" when we were at school in the '40s, we played outside in all weather. No matter the weather, I can never recall my mother keeping me indoors if I asked to "go out to play". We were made of stern stuff back then. Malt and cod liver oil ministered daily. Good stuff.

I've been watching the Victoria Derbyshire programme relating to mesh implants. It is a travisty that multitudes have suffered as a result. There are 100 meshes on the market, many of which have had awful consequences for the patient. In 1992 I did have mesh inserted into my groin to correct a hernia. I may have had mesh used as a sling for pelvic floor prolapse surgery in 2002 but no record exists. Either or could, over time, have had some adverse internal reaction. Perhaps the surgical procedure that is scheduled for Tuesday may present me with more information. If so, I shall feel better for knowing.

annsixty Wed 15-Jan-20 10:09:09

The Cambridge children’s nanny is also reported as saying the same thing.
She apparently has them outside in all weather.

MawB Wed 15-Jan-20 10:06:31

When we were in Southwold before Christmas it was bright but with the inevitable cold wind. Flynn led the charge to the ice cream shop and we too struggled along the beach with our ice creams! (As Princess Anne said, “There is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes” or some such)
Flynn was blue with the cold but adamant and determined to enjoy every last morsel!

annodomini Wed 15-Jan-20 10:01:47

Izabella, what lovely photographs. Wish I'd made it to Stewart Island but when we reached Wanaka on the way south, the wind was blowing our ears off so we chickened out of Stewart.
feelingmyage, it's never a good time to have flu, but you are in the right place and doing just the right things. Hope you throw it off very soon.
ann, you must be very proud of Mollie. What a stalwart she is. Has the vet had a tetanus jab?

Susan56 Wed 15-Jan-20 09:12:03

Thank you again for your good wishes for our trips visiting family.I am quite looking forward to our January Christmas!
Feelingmyage, please look after yourself, flu is horrendous.
Corner, enjoy your trip out but don’t overdo it,hopefully you will feel better for being out and about.
Kitty,I love honeycomb ice cream!I can see a trip to the ice cream farm in the not too distant future.
Have a good day everyone, hope the dentist trip is better than expected soop.

cornergran Wed 15-Jan-20 08:49:41

Beautiful scenes izabella, afraid our grey skies can’t compete.

Look after yourself feelingmyage, flu isn’t to be trifled with.

Ice cream? Not for me in the winter, feels wrong somehow. I was amazed last week, well wrapped up on our very breezy and downright cold sea front, to see so many people wearing coats, scarves, hats and gloves wandering along eating ice cream. I’m just a grumpy old soul at the moment.

Good wishes for soop today, safe trip susan, pleased to hear positive news carillion

It seems we are off out today, no idea where just hope nothing too energetic, Mr C thinks it will do me good. On his head be it hmm

TOYA, stay safe everyone.

kittylester Wed 15-Jan-20 08:14:05

Lovely photos as always Izabella.

It's a bit cold for any sort of ice cream, maw, but we have been there on previous occasions. Though I did have a lovely honeycomb ice cream with chocolate dust yesterday for my pudding!

Hope the flu isnt too bad feelingmyage but enjoy the enforced tv watching.

Izabella Tue 14-Jan-20 22:17:05

A few snaps from the southernmost part of NZ. We are currently on Stewart Island which is a paradise in itself.

Feelingmyage55 Tue 14-Jan-20 21:31:57

kittylester. I am worse than that; I like salad cream!
susan56 We have occasionally had belated Christmases. They have been some of the best, more relaxed, and with a special quality, maybe something about having nearly missed out. Do enjoy, you deserve it.
I am abed with flu - I know who “dunnit”/brought it into the house - sigh! I am not Mrs Perfect but try not to share bugs especially when I had to visit the nursing home. Ah well, I am consuming hours of rubbish tv and gallons of hot squash.
I am delighted to read of your DH’s improvement and homecoming carillion. A good time of year to take it easy but with spring to look forward to.
Chocolate chip shortbread in the kitchen. Take care during storm Brendan. TOYA.

annsixty Tue 14-Jan-20 20:20:13

Hello all.
Been rather absent lately, feeling rather rudderless at the moment but I think it is a common complaint at this time of year.
I don’t have much to boast about with C or GC but have to report that Molly is a star.
I took her to the vets today and she is an ideal weight, every thing else is good with her,she never flinched when she had her vaccinations and only protested slightly when she had her claws cut.
She only bit the vet, who was holding her while the nurse who did the deed, twice.
Since we got back about 5:45 she has been fast asleep.
It has been an awful afternoon weather wise.
Best wishes for tomorrow soop well done to your H Carillion hope he is soon home and good wishes to all.

MawB Tue 14-Jan-20 19:17:26

Are you near that amazing ice cream shop Kittylester ? (The one that advertises ice cream for dogs.) ?
Their salted caramel and coffee is amazing!

kittylester Tue 14-Jan-20 17:15:05

Good luck tomorrow, soop. Hope the journeys are uneventful.

I hope your journeys are uneventful too susan. DD2 is a netball umpire and there are very strict rules about short nails etc now.

Our hotel is right next to the beach and the waves are brilliant gg13 - from inside- and the wind is howling quite theatrically.

Susan56 Tue 14-Jan-20 17:07:03

Hope the dental appointment goes well soop??
It will be lovely to meet up with your family in the spring, something positive to focus on over the next few weeks.
Looking at your picture grannygravy I think we have been lucky with the weather here so far.I do love a stormy sea so long as everyone is safe.
TOYA

soop Tue 14-Jan-20 16:48:33

GrannyGravy I'm guessing that you won't be surfing anytime soon. wink It's nowhere near as bad hereabouts. Could all change tomorrow. That's what weather does.

Susan You are very wise to have your daughter help with the driving. Such a bonus to have someone prepared to step forward at times like this. Our nearest family live in the heart of the Midlands. Our next meet-up is planned in the Spring and will be in Carlisle.

MacSporran is putting the hens to bed. To be honest, they will have already decided to snuggle down for the night. His job will be to lock the door to the roost. I do believe that he has a soft spot for them.

Campbeltown tomorrow. Lots going on. I'm already fretting about the dental appointment in the afternoon. Part of the very sensitive tooth has broken off. I cannot bear to place my finger on it. Oh heck!

I shall return to catch up with you all sometime tomorrow. Possibly early afternoon.

TOYA smile moon

Susan56 Tue 14-Jan-20 14:57:41

Thank you soop.My husbands family are in West Wales, about 120 miles away. Our eldest daughter is coming with us so I have added her to our car insurance and we will share the driving. Our youngest daughter is about 60 miles away.We plan to see them next week??????
I am planning a quiet few days ready for the weekend.I think it will do us both good to see family.
Thank you to everyone for your support over the last month. It has been a lonely time and your messages have really helped me.x

GrannyGravy13 Tue 14-Jan-20 14:54:39

Susan56, Carillion pleased to hear your husbands are on the mend.
The storm has arrived in SE Essex, this is our seafront road today.

soop Tue 14-Jan-20 14:24:01

Susan I have been hoping for an update from you. Thank goodness your husband's medication is beginning to make a positive difference. It will do you both good if you can make arrangements to gather with your family. Will you have far to travel? Do you drive?

Susan56 Tue 14-Jan-20 14:00:25

Carillion,so pleased to read your news.Glad that the hospital have arranged transport so one less thing for you to have to deal with. Will be lovely for you both to be back home.
I have never had to worry about rugby players in the family however that could change now we have two little grandsons.I spent a lot of my daughters childhoods worrying about horse riding accidents and now DGD has started riding so the worry starts. My younger daughter was a netball player,I remember one day she came home with so many scratches and bruises we wondered what on earth had happened but apparently in the world of competitive netball such injuries are commonplace.
Things are looking up here??DH is on another course of antibiotics and is starting to look better thank goodness. We have tentatively made arrangemaents to see our family over the next week for belated Christmas celebrations.
Hope everyone is keeping safe in this awful weather.
Soop,it’s a buggeration when plans are turned upside down but maybe better you are safely at home today judging by the weather reports.
TOYA

soop Tue 14-Jan-20 13:04:55

N&G I meant to mention that MacSporran is a chicken-minder all this week. Whilst our pals are away, he feeds, opens the coop in the morning, and they are very ready to roost when he calls by late afternoon. He says that they are "good girls"...wink

Back to rugby players. My favourite is Greg Laidlaw. I believe that he's retiring? Is that correct?

Change of plan again. Should be in Campbeltown today but need to go in tomorrow...optician's appointment/Tesco/visit to care home/me to the dentist afternoon. Oh joy! All routine disturbed. hmm

soop Tue 14-Jan-20 12:55:31

Maw Tyke! grin

Good to have you here in the kitchen, GrannySomerset

Carillion Having read your latest message, I am absolutely delighted for both you and your dear husband. My word, you've been through a tough time together. We all gather round to wish you ongoing support and a totally successful outcome. It will take time. You have the patience and the love to see you through. flowers

Nannytopsy Tue 14-Jan-20 10:42:44

The prop is clearly modelled on SiL - same chunky thighs and stance!

NanaandGrampy Tue 14-Jan-20 08:53:50

Morning all !

Well yesterdays bright start descended into howling winds and torrential rain so it was a short lived bright spell.

Great news Carillion , you'll be relieved to get you both safely back home .

GrannySomerset and Corner , I feel your pain !! We once spent ages trying to unlock our rental car in a car park, even stopping an unloading UPS man to ask for his help as were in a foreign country , only for him to press the key fob and a car 4 down from 'ours' unlocked!!Yup! We were trying to get into someone else's car!!!

We thanked him for his help and he told us not to worry, he'd dine out on that story for months!

I know Corner they are like little weeds ! Sometimes I miss it when they were little but every age brings a different joy.

Time for slimming this morning - its time to face the music for a well enjoyed Christmas !!

Happy day all!
