I love Keane's new song, 'Stupid Things'. blush

Anyone else love songs that could be deemed 'wrong'?

There's been talk of banning the Pogues' Fairytale of New York because of the words. (not sure what they are, but clearly they're offensive to someone.).

What about Hotel California by the Eagles? Or Sweet Sixteen by Neil Sedaka? Don't Stand too Close to Me by Police? Or Roxanne?

There was a song called Hang on in there Baby from the 70s which is a pretty explicit description of sex.

Agree Walk on the Wild Side is very on-trend wink

His voice is fabulous though lilyflower and I did say that I knew it was wrong!

Just watched the video: a dirgy, maungy tune with words glorifying selfish infidelity and accompanied by images of happy people as if betrayal doesn't hurt and ruin lives.

One of the lines expresses regret for missing the childern's bedtime (again) implying a deliberate and established pattern of treachery encompassing a whole family.

This is all packaged up as merely a 'stupid thing' that the perpetrator has almost accidently been pushed into. Whoops! I just destroyed your life. Silly me.

Still, if we condemned everything the pop industry pushes out we wouldn't be left with much.

Looks like he was about 20 when he wrote it.

To be fair, the boy singing it might have also been 16 - so not too bad really. I doubt Neil Sedaka was very much older when he wrote it.

One that always had me laughing was Telephone Man by Meri Wilson.
Hey, baby, I'm your telephone man
You just show me where you want it
And I'll put it where I can
I can put it in the bedroom
I can put it in the hall
I can put it in the bathroom
I can hang it on the wall
You can have it with the buzz
you can have it with the ring
And if you really want it
You can have a ding-a-ling
It gets even cheekier!.........

Just remembered a really weird one - Angie Baby by Helen Reddy. About a girl living in a make believe world but somehow manages to lure young men into her bedroom, and once there they disappear! Quite spooky really.

The Other Woman, The Other Man by Gerard Kenny.
"I never see you when I want to, you only see me when you can, 'cos you're the other woman and I'm the other man" ....

A fabulous singer-songwriter, with a very loyal fan-base!

Young Girl - Gary Plucket and the Union Gap - oh dear. I am sure it would be banned now.

MissAdventure Thu 19-Dec-19 20:17:24

I love that song!

Blinko Thu 19-Dec-19 20:10:57

How about 'Lola' by the Kinks? Right on trend now, I think.

chelseababy Thu 19-Dec-19 17:30:24

I always think Me and Mrs Jones inappropriate when played on Sunday Love Songs for married couples!

A bride requested the theme tune from Robin Hood and

What about 'Summer (The First Time) when Bobby Goldsboro sang:

'She was thirty one and I was seventeen
I knew nothing about love, she knew everything
When I sat down beside her on the front porch swing
And wondered what the coming night would bring'

And when the morning came he was a man!

A favourite of mine is Golden Brown by the Stranglers. Still like it now, despite it bring a tribute to drugs which I abhor

My older brother mentioned that they’ve done a few impromptu events in the past on the seafront in Bexhill.

He actually comes from Battle (where it now appears that the Battle of Hastings DIDN’T take place)

Maggie May was written after a Rod had a brief thing with an older woman at a festival when he was a teenager.
One of my favourite songs is Cherry Wine by a band called Hozier. Its about domestic violence, her to him....
His voice haunts me.

White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane was another. I'd float around the dance floor trying to look all blissful. Didn't have a clue what it was about!

Chestnut Thu 19-Dec-19 15:30:38

To be honest, I think there were quite a few songs in the 1960s about taking drugs and getting high. I used to skip around as a teenager happily singing them, never having taken a drug in my life!
'I Can Hear the Grass Grow' by The Move is one.

Maggiemaybe Thu 19-Dec-19 14:20:38

by people, rather.
