Light hearted post, Clocks and Watches

I watched a Ted Talk by Sir Ken Robinson recently and he asked the audience how many people were wearing watches. He then pointed out the age of people wearing them and said that his teenage children look at him like he is deranged when he asked them that and asked him why anyone would use a single function device.
His talks are very funny and worth listening to.

Clocks in every room. One in living room, bedroom, hall, study, and three in the kitchen due to oven and microwave. And a watch. I must be able to see the time!

I have visions of everyone going round their home counting clocks? I wouldn’t say my house looks overcrowded with clocks as they are not in every room I do have a grandfather clock which I love, also I’m talking about wall hanging clocks but obviously not the grandfather lol I’m not counting microwave clock or alarm clock

I love clocks too and have far more than I need. However, when I need to know the time, I turn to my mobile phone as I can't be sure that any of the clocks are showing the right time.

I love the rhythmic ticking of an antique clock; find it very soothing and calming, especially at night.

BradfordLass72 that's interesting as my Mum stops all watches too! I will tell her what you've said. We love old clocks. My husband likes to restore and mend them. There's an antique shop hear us that takes out the old movements and replaces it with a battery one!

I don't wear a watchfor every day as I am arthritic and it hurts my wrists, even though it is a very light Swatch. I wear one if going out to grandchildren or appointments, hospital etc. In the house we have Alexa in the bedrooms and living room and I ask her the time. I need a clock for the bathroom, but think Santa might be be bringing one

DH and I each have a small luminous bedside alarm clock each. We have three other clocks plus the cooker and micro.
I always wear a watch when going out, easier than fishing in my bag for my phone. DH has three watches, he wears each one depending on what he's doing.

We have two clocks, one in the kitchen, and one in the living room. We also inherited a grandfather clock from my late mother in law. It is in the hall, but it doesn't work.
I have an Echo Spot in the bedroom beside my bed. I like to know the time when I'm awake during the night.
I have two wrist watches, but only wear one of I'm going out, as my mobile phone lives in my handbag/backpack.

Just gone round the house counting, we have 10 clocks excluding the cooker one. I like a clock in every room, the sitting room has a Westminster chime one that was my mum’s, love to hear it striking and like hearing clocks ticking. Don’t wear a watch very often. Also look at the time on my I pad.

My cousin can’t wear a watch because of electrical problems causing the workings to go haywire.

I forgot to put my watch on when I went into town recently. I looked around and not a single clock on display! There used to be a couple of clocks hanging outside shops and most would have a clock inside as well. We probably stay longer if we don’t know what the time is.

A lot of clocks TrendyNanny but there are some beautiful ones around. We have one large clock in the living room and small alarm clocks in the bedrooms. I wear a watch when I go out but not in the house.

I'm lost without a watch, but then I don't carry a phone everywhere. Had to go and buy a cheap one when my old one had to be sent away for service.

Only one actual clock in the house - on the kitchen wall - unless you count the old fashioned mechanical alarm clock (very loud ring!) which I use in addition to everything else if we have to get up at some unearthly hour.

However we have 6 clock-radios, one on every bedside table in the house!

We have a clock in the living room, in the kitchen and two of the bedrooms. My son uses his phone as watch/clock/alarm, he would never wear a watch. My OH always puts his watch on first thing ( he has a few) and takes it off when he goes to bed.
I don't wear one anymore.

One of the houses I work in has no clocks downstairs and only one alarm clock in one bedroom. Drives me round the bend not being able to see the time downstairs, have to keep going to get my phone out of my bag.

Oh, I have to have a clock in each room, even though I always wear a watch!

I like wearing a watch. Sadly my beautiful gold watch has a face that is too small for me to see, but I still wear it for occasions. My everyday watch is solar powered, so no need for a battery and it keeps perfect time.
As for the younger generation my tec savvy DS wears 3 different watches, the one he inherited from his GF, one we gave him for his graduation and one ( a special chronometer) he asked for a couple of Christmases ago.
The other DS who works in IT doesn’t wear one.

I don’t have a wrist watch, not one house clock, I have a bedside radio/alarm.

My husband bought me the most beautiful Tissot watch, oval with a faceted face when I had our first son.
Previously, I'd never worn a wrist watch, as being a Nursery Nurse/Nanny, I had a fob.

But that Tissot didn't like me and would not keep time.
The horologist tested it - it kept perfect time for him.
He suggested I had 'too much electricity' and although I didn't understand, I had to stop wearing it.
Bought myself a cheap Timex and that did the same, so it was me not the watches.

My Mum collected clocks in a small way and her favourite was a beautiful Marine clock with a mahogany surround.

She also loved a chiming Grandmother clock and a domed torsion pendulum Year Clock which I bought her.
In the sitting room she had a little Cuckoo Clock bought in Oberammergau.

When she came to New Zealand, the first place she wanted to visit was the Clock Museum in Whangarei.

I love to hear a ticking clock as I go to sleep,

I took my watch off the day I retired and loved the feeling of freedom it gave me. Then my daughter noticed I wasn’t wearing it and bought me a new one for Christmas. It’s very pretty, rose gold with a cream strap. I do wear it now, sometimes, and always when I go to see her. I find my life has settled into a routine, and I rarely look at the time during the day, but when I do I’m always within a few minutes of the time I am estimating.

That made me laugh mumofmadboys I have my phone on my bedside table, so I tend to look at that for the time,

i only have 2 clocks and neither tick ! I always wear a watch but never look at it as i rarely need to know the time.

I haven’t worn a watch since the day I retired and now I think about it I don’t own a clock apart from the digital ones on oven, microwave and tv. I listen to the radio, use my mobile or iPad for the time.

No, I don't think that is an obsession, as for wearing a watch, I always wore a watch, feeling naked as you say without one but the last few years I rarely bother and use my mobile phone if need be.

I wear a watch,even to bed! Always have! Like to know the time if I wake up in the night!
