Top of the list;
^ Not to refer to Scotch people as "Scotch" any more!^ wink

I gave up "Scotch Whiskey" 70 years ago, made me really sick. and that's one promise I've held to ever since! Horrible stuff! grin

Rufus2 Thu 02-Jan-20 14:25:31

a pibroch is the Gaelic for a rousing tune......in a sort of medley
Neil thanks for that! They say you can learn something new every day! wink I can't imagine a melodious medley on pipes, but there again, I can't imagine regarding didgeridoos although some people rave about them. I must have a tin ear! grin
In that selfie you posted, I guess you were simply posing and not playing the pipes because that lady to your right was not clutching her ears, nor were you wearing ear muffs which would be mandated by OH&S inspectors here! hmm
Can bagpipes be played on either hand i.e. left or right handed as with golf clubs?
OoRoo

SirChenjin Thu 02-Jan-20 13:43:53

Lol OoRoo grin It’s pronounced ‘’slan geh’ (or slainte mhath - slan geh vah if you’re using the full toast) so now you can impress your friends down under with your knowledge of all things Celtic grin

Rufus2 Thu 02-Jan-20 13:18:05

It’s Sláinte - but I appreciate the sentiment Rufus, thank you! grin
No! thank you Sir! Slainte or Sainte! That's an "ell" of a difference grin
Resolution 3; I must not dabble in the Celtic language when I don't know what the hell I'm talking about! confused
Think I'll stick with OoRoo

BlueSky Thu 02-Jan-20 12:41:18

Will try to live for today which I find hard to do, I much rather worry about tomorrow for myself and all my loved ones, catastrophizing as I go along...confused

TrendyNannie6 Thu 02-Jan-20 12:23:24

Trying to get my health back on track as have few autoimmune diseases so number one is watching what I eat, more exercise,

SirChenjin Thu 02-Jan-20 11:17:20

It’s Sláinte - but I appreciate the sentiment Rufus, thank you! grin

@Rufus2 a pibroch is the Gaelic for a rousing tune - so to sound out something lively, in my case a pairing of “Auld Lang Syne” and “Amazing Grace” in a sort of medley

I'm considering canceling Amazon Prime in an effort to shop locally instead and do business with other online companies- My experience with Amazon this past year has been an eye opener .. I had to make so many returns due to poor quality items- One item was a night light for my grandson- The listing description indicated that it was made in the US and was intended for children yet the instruction booklet revealed that it was made in China and also had a warning that it isn't a toy and not intended for children- It didn't warn that the light was like a laser and so bright that I had to wait 10 minutes for my eye to recover after looking at it- Many other items were returned due to poor quality- There's other issues too with their tablets being too Amazon specific-

people or in Scotland are Scotch
4allweknow Thanks again, but thanks to SirChenjin I now have two resolutions;

1. not to call Scotch people "Scotch" anymore.
2. not to call Scotch people "Scots" anymore.

Takes the coward's way out, defeated by Scotch logic. confused

please refer to us as Scottish or Scots
SirChenjin Please see above! hmm
Sainte

As well as channeling Mrs Brown and her "that's nice" mantra; I'm determinded that, this year, I will finish every knitting, sewing and quilting project that is "nearly done" but has lain unfinished for weeks/months/years. I will. I will. I will.

Chewbacca Wed 01-Jan-20 21:01:18

gringrin As always MissA!

Wheniwasyourage Wed 01-Jan-20 20:36:08

MissAdventure grin

To put things away when I've finished with them, not 3 days later!

MissAdventure Wed 01-Jan-20 20:14:03

To get plainer and much fatter.
From what I've seen of myself today I've already made a good start.

love0c Wed 01-Jan-20 20:08:05

HettyMaud not selfish at all! I will join you in that one! smile

New Years Resolution 2019, to redecorate the living room.

New Years Resolution 2020, to redecorate the living room.

Got up early today, cleared the entire room so the whole house is now in chaos and there is nowhere to sit. Perhaps it will now happen!

HettyMaud Wed 01-Jan-20 19:54:38

Mine is a selfish one. To think more about myself instead of constantly pandering to others who I’m not sure always appreciate me.

love0c Wed 01-Jan-20 18:35:59

Chewbacca. That's what I thought too! Thought it was a brilliant saying!!! ha ha. Not sure I can do it though. I think you could say it if you actually didn't give a damn. That can be my New Year's resolution 'to not give a damn'. Or 'careless'.

Noname Wed 01-Jan-20 18:23:12

Can’t do Dry January as we are off on an AI holiday in 11 days and while we don’t drink during the day we do enjoy a cocktail before dinner! ??‍♀️

Hotmama Wed 01-Jan-20 16:54:48

To keep breathing and try to like myself more.

CBBL Wed 01-Jan-20 16:40:57

I'm going to try and save more. This is mostly because I worry about money matters. I know I would feel better if I had more of a "financial cushion".

SirChenjin Wed 01-Jan-20 15:30:10

Rufus people or in Scotland are Scotch

No, we’re really not and haven’t been referred to as such for a couple of centuries now. It’s considered rather rude, so please refer to us as Scottish or Scots (without any reference to PC nonsense or similar). Scotch refers to an item or product of Scottish origin. Wikipedia explains it well en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotch_(adjective)

They have a house near Sussex Inlet and are standing by with hoses
It's all absolutely .heartbreaking! I looked up the fire news for Sussex Inlet and I guess you can do the same from where you are, but hoses seem so puny against those monster fires! Terrible! Glad to say we are OK so far here in Melbourne, but I don't want tempt fate!
Btw. I think you are guilty of plagiarism with your gripe about women at the supermarket! hmm Didn't you see the contribution by Matthew Norman of The Oldie mag. not long ago, or is it pure coincidence?
"Women are best at everything, except......" It's right here in front of me, I read it constantly and very clever it is, too! grin

Rufus2 Wed 01-Jan-20 14:02:14

So you are doing no wrong
4allweknow Many thanks for that! You've made my day (Thursday! hmm); now I feel totally vindicated, but what about my Resolution?
I need another one quickly confused

GardenerGran Wed 01-Jan-20 13:51:18

Keeping fingers crossed for your folk in Oz PamelaJ1 it’s a terrible situation there. My NY resolution as always is to live in the moment, I’m always thinking and planning ahead, looking for the next job to do. I will try to do less and relax more buts it’s always a battle!

SaraC Wed 01-Jan-20 13:24:04

Two resolutions here -
1. Become a ‘pescatarian’ - not ready to become fully vegetarian yet...
2. Keep a daily gratitude diary - it’s too easy to overlook the good things, or take them for granted.
