Harry & Meghan stepping back from RF

I simply have to say, in a genuine manner, that we ladies of a certain age are very perceptive, empathetic and even understanding. The Queen must have processed all our thoughts along the way, but she had the love and grace to allow her grandson the wedding, the travels, the interviews and the social media excess. This time H & M gave gone too far and I am sure they will well and truly be put in their places.

I'd like to know how you are supposed to hold someone's hand or your pregnant belly in order to be "trusted". I know - you must never hold your husbands hand or touch your pregnant belly. Then you will be trusted. Some people are so shallow.

Seems everyone on here is a psychologist who knows all the inner motivations/feelings of a person they have never met based on how she holds her husband's hand or touches her baby bump. No wonder she wants to get away from all the hate.

I’m fed up with people playing the racist card. It makes it all the harder when you want to challenge real racism.

Snobbery, which I’m sure she encountered (and I’m sure Kate did too at the start) is not racism.

I do have experience of both.

The rapacious Meghan and Harry complain ceaselessly of press coverage intruding into their private life. Well, they ain't seen nothing yet.

All sorts of deals planned, with chat shows, Disney and lines of products trading on the royal name. Consultation with American lawyers at the beginning of their 'sabbatical'. Now she is back in Canada in possession of the baby, a useful bargaining tool. Stupid, stupid Harry. Doubtless the Palace is working on a divorce settlement already. I wonder if we shall see her again?

I am now thinking of the visiting the Canadian Embassy to thank the people for the warm welcome .
That was a private visit, a holiday, whenever has that been necessary before?
Obviously a visit to sort out a few details in advance.
No wonder she looked so pleased and happy on leaving.

I totally agree old gimmer and grannysquare. I genuinely do not believe that race or colour comes into it one bit, or even being American, but playing the race card seems to be Meghan’s default position.
Complaining about social media comment is unfortunately what you get when you choose to live your life in its spotlight. If you set out to get up noses, noses will be got up.
I cannot imagine for instance that Prince Philip or Princess Anne give a monkey’s about social media, but H&M have chosen to opt out of the “old” Royal correspondent route where a few journalists had privileged access to the Royals and, on the whole, mostly played by the rules.

Meghan leaving looks like an ultimatum to me .... Meghan and Archie in Canada, Harry here. I imagine she has said "It's your family, you sort it".

I think the way they have treated the Queen and Philip at this time in their lives with Philip fragile is totally appalling and selfish. The shock could have killed one of them!

Fair enough if they want to pack up everything and live in Canada. It's the way they have handled it, and clearly been plotting for over a year with setting up their brand, etc.

So they drop the bombshell and then she buggers off leaving him alone to deal with the fallout? Hmm ok then.

Note that Harry has not yet left the UK... & possibly may not in the foreseeable future.

It’s fair comment that some social media comment has been vile...but unfettered vilification there comes as easily as unbounded praise. If you can’t take it, don’t put yourself out there.

Overall, the UK media has offered its usual love-em-loathe-em dance, so the charges of racism don’t stick so well as the grounds for criticism of MM have not been based on the colour of her skin or race, nor has she been held to a higher standard on the basis of those attributes.

UK media is regulated (ish), social media ain’t.
MM has shown herself to be social media savvy, as Diana would have been had she survived.

The hurt-child in Harry has chosen someone with similar narcissistic traits as his mother to rescue & protect from the harm of unfettered criticism & intrusion. Harry chose MM at an unconscious level to bring into his own drama to play out a longer slower scenario where he both revisits his childhood wounding as an adult to somehow put things right & shed to the ‘happy chappy prince but dim’ persona he has with the UK media.

MM is a perfect ‘fit’ as she was already in the public eye & already lived in a social media bubble.

Both Cress & Chels made sound assessments of what life with Haaza would be like & chose wisely not to commit. Nowt to do with joining the RF.

History seems to repeat so neatly.
WallisS was cast as the villain in the abdication crisis & 20/20 hindsight reveals that whilst she was not admirable, she became trapped & overshadowed by Edward’s inadequacies & shortcomings.

The Queen’s earliest years were impacted by the abdication & has both made her reigning monarch & determined her blunt refusal to consider abdication.
She know the RF can survive the casting out of a popular charmer from the ranks. So Granny’s goodwill may extend only so far.

It's not going to happen. Whatever one thinks of the Royals, their popularity is based on duty and not having opinions.

Meghan - and Harry too it seems - are too self absorbed and dim to see that they're not going to change the monarchy.

If they weren't quite so vain and refrained from shoving their hypocritical wokeness down our throats they may stand a chance.

The women who succeed in the monarchy are the ones who put up, shut up and get on with it. Like Anne and Kate.

It has been mentioned that Meghan may revert to type, and decide to get rid of Harry in a few years - I think that would only happen if she can replace the kudos of her connection with the RF with some other high profile lifestyle - American politics maybe, or a top Hollywood filmstar. I can't see her wanting to disappear into the sunset. I hope I am wrong, and she really does love Harry and she didn't marry him just because he was a member of the most famous family in the world.

Spent a bit of time last night looking at their new website, hmm, obviously planned and thought out, not dashed off in a hurry.
Sadly it all comes across as quite calculated and the way it’s been done, rather devious. Surely it all should have been discussed, thrashed about and some sort of compromise achieved before it was made public in this upsetting way?
I imagine the RF and courtiers are glad Meghan is out of the way, hopefully it is easier to talk with Harry on his own.

I can’t understand the so called racism attack - is it based on colour or nationality? The colour is minimal and I don’t think the majority of British people are colour prejudiced? , and as far as nationality is concerned there are two other Americans who have settled into the lesser royal family quite happily.
No, this is about a prima donna wanting to be top dog. We liked her at first but it soon became clear that she couldn’t fit in, and it is sad for her too.
I didn't realise she had gone back already - it is looking more like an ultimatum to Harry along the lines of “ I’m not living in the UK any longer you can join me here or stay there alone”, dressed up to save his face. That poor, poor young man, my heart goes out to him.
If I was the recipient of a handshake, hug or charitable gesture in the UK, Australia or Africa, I might look back and wonder, did she really care about us at all or was it just a duty?

Unfortunately the trend to wallow in misery over misfortune can make a persom selfish. It opens up wounds that fester unless professional help is sort. It surely wouldn’t have hurt them to stay a bit longer with Prince Philip being so ill.
Above all I hope Harry will still be involved with the Invicta games and other charities that he has put so much into. It makes you wonder how genuine all the charity work was, especially Megan’s. I suppose she is just so used to being the star that she couldn’t swallow having to walk behind Kate etc
How perceptive William was in advising Harry not to rush into marrying her and what a headache for the royal household to have to replace them on all their charities.
I hope Harry finds a fulfilling role - I can’t see him fitting easily into an American lifestyle, but maybe in Canada. I think we can forget the spending time in England, it’s not going to happen, especially when Archie starts school.
