Ann I expect you are wondering how on earth your DS could possibly be 50, never mind his youngest reaching double figures next year! Where does the time go? cupcake

chicken we lived in Sussex many years ago at the time of "The Great Storm" when so many trees were blown down. They are not as deep rooted as you would think when they can be such tall plants. Stay in and stay safe, hope your trees stand up nice and straight! hmm

Dragonfly I hope your chemo is easier on you this week. You are nearly at the end of the course and spring will be here very soon. flowers

We had cups of tea in bed this morning and so Himself says he is not hungry now. He is now planning on cooking the breakfast bacon, eggs etc for lunch and calling it dinner as he has cancelled our lunch out. hmmconfused
At least we will be eating! grin

Nannytopsy Sun 09-Feb-20 10:57:26

Morning all! We are being VERY lazy today - just having first coffee in bed at nearly 11!
After quite a spell of broken nights, we have suddenly got the idea again. Go to bed, go to sleep, sleep all night! Easy grin
Skirting boards to finish today then next week I can get into my garden.
It’s very blowy out there but all seems to be in its right place. Glad your roof is ok now Kitty!

WelcomeDaisyboots ---(love the name!)---to soop's lovely kitchen. Always a warm welcome and comfort when needed.

synonymous---glad to hear that Smokie is feeling better. Cats are such strange creatures when it comes to
asking to be let out. They can see the wind and rain but somehow don't seem to realise that it applies to them until they get out there, then shoot back in looking reproachfully at you as if it's all your fault!

soop*----tell MacS that Baker rejected the turkey today in favour of good old Felix.

Hoping that everyone stays safe in today's storm .It's winding up to full force here in Sussex, and our house is surrounded by tall trees, so we're keeping our fingers crossed.

TOYA

Storm Ciera has been blowing all night here in SE Essex.

Welcome Daisyboots

I hope all poorly kitcheners have a better day today, keep safe and warm inside until this nasty storm has diminished.

Alygran Sun 09-Feb-20 09:57:05

Lovely photos grannyqueenie. I was there on Wednesday when it was just as lovely. I didn’t take any photos as I have been so many times there are lots already. Did you take any of the snowdrops?

Synonymous Sun 09-Feb-20 09:47:02

GQ lovely photos, particularly the one of the - crypt? It really draws your eye down to the end window and is very artistic. I would be happy to show that off! smile Which NT place is it? Not surprised it is closed due to the storm.
We have decided to stay at home rather than venture out to church this morning as Himself is not at all confident of staying on his feet and I do not want to chance driving; it is a long way and quite a few trees to drive through.*

Izabella no need for apologies for typos! We love reading your posts, you have such a way with words. In a very differenf way that is what my DD thinks about me when I text her as my phone certainly has a mind of it's own and, in spite of double checking it all, it sends some very whacky messages at times! confused

Welcome daisyboots smile No fluffiness in the kitchen, we are very down to earth and help each other cope when necessary.

Glad your Baker is eating better now he is at home chicken, hopefully he will be back to normal very soon.

Our Smokie is clearly feeling much better as we had the Olympics last night with amazing jumps at playtime. He is now desperate to go out but there is no way in this wind and rain, our garden is awash. Neither do I want him eating anybody else and being unwell again but it is what cats do.

Such winds! I am very much hoping that the masses of flower buds don't get blown off the Eucryphia x Nimensis.
Stay safe everyone! TOYA flowers

annsixty Sun 09-Feb-20 09:34:22

Good morning all.
I hope you are all safe from Clara.
It is very wild and wet here ,I don’t have to go out but I feel for anyone who does.
My S is 50 today and his youngest will be 9 on Thursday so some celebrating for them.
I hope to see my GS sometime during the week but a possibility I won’t.
Take care everyone and stay safe.

Daisyboots Sat 08-Feb-20 23:46:19

Thank you Cornergran Dragonfly 46 and Doodlefor your welcome.
Charleygirl I used to love cooking but since having treatment for cancer I have lost my appetite and am not so interested in food. I eat because I have to. I never thought I would ever say such a thing.

grannyqueenie Sat 08-Feb-20 21:26:09

Too many lovely photos not to share some more with you!

grannyqueenie Sat 08-Feb-20 21:22:16

Oh I just love this kitchen, it’s a microcosm of “real” life with everything, both happy and sad, imaginable and some not going on but all at the same time!

What is it it about brothers in law, that can drive us perfectly nice women to the brink kitty. When spending time with one of mine I have been known to text my daughters with this message “IGTBB” i.e. I got the best brother, maybe you did too!!

morethan thinking of you especially, your updates move me every time I read them. maw sorry to hear that you have these added sadnesses just now “how shall the heart be reconciled to it’s feast of losses?” springs to mind. ?
Izabella you continue to inspire me, lovely lady. ? soop you’re sounding much more like yourself these days, maybe good news of your feline friend has cheered your soul.

We've had a beautiful blue sky day in our neck of the woods, the NT place we visited, in common with many other places up and down the country, will be closed tomorrow due to Storm Ciara. Today’s photos, I’ll leave some for you to enjoy, make it very hard to believe! I’ve no chance of remembering everyone but toya and wishing you all a quiet evening and a restful night -whatever the weather. xx

Doodle Sat 08-Feb-20 21:19:03

Welcome daisyboots occasionally recipe swapping (Galen comes up with some good ones) but mostly we just do our best to share life with each other and support each other. Cake is always welcome and Baggs’ flapjacks are wonderful.
baggs sorry to hear about your shoulder. Sounds really painful.
izabella you made me spill some of my wine laughing about your tandem joke. Your spirit and sense of humour are wonderful. Don’t worry about the typos we all make them.
maw sorry about your sad news about your friend.
kitty my goodness you’ve got a lot going on. Your poor niece.
chicken glad Baker is progressing slowly.
Dear morethan what a hard time you are having. The suggestion about counselling is a good one but probably difficult to arrange under the circumstances. Nothing wise to say I’m afraid, the only thing I can offer are my ongoing prayers for you and your family. flowers
soop and everyone not mentioned ? TOYA ?

dragonfly46 Sat 08-Feb-20 21:14:36

Welcome Daisyboots.

I think you could write a book about your BiL’s kitty.

Sorry to hear about your CH’s poorly eyes Izabella. Why can men be such wimps about the minor things like colds and so brave with the serious ailments.

Charleygirl5 Sat 08-Feb-20 20:48:26

Daisyboots I would not be visiting this post so regularly if we exchanged recipes because I really cannot cook very well. Welcome- I hope you get to "know" us lot and join in.

I now have a working landline phone again. My last phone died over a week ago and Amazon helped out by sending my next choice the next day. I even managed to fit the thing together but the reception was so bad it was unusable.

A friend and neighbour came to look at it and today for a whole £4 for an ADSL filter I now have a working phone again. It is amazing how much it is appreciated when it is no longer working.

I had better hide but chicken that young man deserves sirloin steak he has been such a trouper while so ill. He does appear to be on the mend.

cornergran Sat 08-Feb-20 20:20:35

Hello daisyboots, good to see you and welcome. Yes, you’re right about the meaning of TOYA and definitely right that this is a warm, kind and thoughtful place. See you again soon.

Daisyboots Sat 08-Feb-20 20:16:03

Hello everyone.
This is my first venture into Soop's Kitchen. For some reason I always thought it was a thread for swapping recipes and the like. Having read the last 4 pages how wrong I was and it certainly isn't fluffy. What a lovely kind and thoughtful thread it is. Everyone is caring of each other. I shall certainly start visiting regularly now. I am assuming that TOYA means thinking of you all. If not what does it mean?

Synonymous Sat 08-Feb-20 19:24:17

soop re the pre sucked Brazils - we can never get past the thought either! She lived to within a hairs breadth of her centenary so it was a bit sad not to have made it and she had coal black hair without a grey to be seen. Himself started going grey at 16 so he clearly got his genes from a different line of his family. hmm

So many posts I would love to reply to but have very little get up and go so will just say TOYA flowers

Nannytopsy Sat 08-Feb-20 18:41:06

Thank goodness! A win for England ?. ( Sorry Soop, Maw etc) What awful weather for them.
Dragonfly I hope your chemo is kinder to you this week. Morethan you are awesome and you and your family are in our prayers.
Batten down your hatches everyone, see you tomorrow!

cornergran Sat 08-Feb-20 18:25:35

Busy day in our Kitchen , I’ve read all the posts but afraid my head won’t hold them all, I’ll do my best though. I lurked for ages before I came through the Kitchen door for the first time and have been so pleased I did, a warm welcoming and safe place.

We seized the day and had a long walk on the beach and a cuppa at an outside table in warm sunshine. Bliss. Now the wind is getting stronger every minute and there’s a coastal flood warning

Mr C said he’d prepare the garden for the storm. Well, he took the metal spinners off the top of the wind spinner. No, not to stop it unwinding and decapitating someone as it flew over the fence as I thought, but because ‘I’ve just got the flipping thing straight’. He still doesn’t understand why I laughed. grin.

My heart goes out to you and your family morethan, so much worry for so long, Pleased today is a good day dragonfly, you deserve that Prosecco.

Ouch baggs, thank you for the delicious flapjack, I found the few crumbs that were left. Blimey kitty, you couldn’t make it up could you? Just stay away from the knives. Your niece is lucky to have you for support.

My first iPhone experience was with one inherited from our son soop. It lived in a drawer for six months before I gave in to his nagging and switched it on. Fortunately we have an Apple shop a short drive away. The incredibly young staff are immensely patient and excellent teachers so now I cope - until there’s something I can’t do when I ask our 10 year old for help. grin.

The ‘nuts’ tales have had me laughing. I’m so sorry izabella, you two surely don’t need more buggerations. Pleased you are warm again n&g, relax and enjoy.

Well, I’ve been an age over this, more than half an eye on the tv, several more posts will have appeared so apologies if it looks as if I’ve ignored the content.

TOYA, stay safe in the storms everyone.

soop Sat 08-Feb-20 17:52:39

Baggs Thank you for enlightening us. Although I knew the basic facts, I didn't wish to get my facts wrong. You have been through a very nasty mishap. Get thyself properly slung...or else. wink

Synonymous I cannot get the idea of pre-sucked brazils out of my mind. grin

Izabella Men! Your husband will have been putting a brave face on things. Stiff upper lip and all that. Thank goodness the condition has been identified. The sooner this buggeration is addressed, the better.

I've had to absquatulate (leave the rugby match abruptly) as I am afraid to watch the seconf half. The conditions at Murrayfield are abysmal. Never mind, I shall return and hope with all my heart that Scotland can rally and do themselves justice during the second half.

It's blowing a wotsit. We may lose internet connection. We may not.

MacSporran has shouted...three all! I'm away. Toya. Stay warm and safe. smile moon

soop Sat 08-Feb-20 17:38:05

All praise be to chicken's Baker Keep up the good work. You can call the shots. It's natural that you prefer turkey. You need only the best right now.
MacS says...hmm Baker isn't going to want ordinary feline food ever again. I think that he's right.

Synonymous Sat 08-Feb-20 17:12:35

Maw sorry to hear of yet another bereavement. At this time of the year there do seem to be rather more which is not surprising since it is towards the end of winter. We are all tired and longing for warmer weather and the sun to shine again.
As for the 'nuts' that is absolutely no joke in our family, it being all too real! When my PILs died we 'inherited' one of FIL's aged relatives, a 42nd cousin I believe. She was addicted to buttered Brazil's but we all knew she didn't eat the nuts because she had no teeth. One visit she offered a large bag of brazil nuts to our DC who looked at them but said "No, thankyou" and she was very offended insisting there was nothing wrong with them as she had washed and dried them all. Even after over 40 years later we only have to mention buttered brazils for the entire family to "go all unnecessary "! We always wondered who ended up with the leftovers as we know she never threw anything away. hmm

chicken Sat 08-Feb-20 16:17:34

Izabella---sympathy to your CH with his eye problems. I have much the same , although not too advanced as yet, and will have cataract surgery soon which I am assured by the surgeon will bring a lot of improvement in vision. Best wishes to him and you.

I love your posts which paint such evocative pictures.

Izabella Sat 08-Feb-20 16:05:33

p.s. baggs can you ride tandem? ?

Izabella Sat 08-Feb-20 16:04:09

Goodness me. Tales of woe with baggs (get well soon) and Maw - I feel for you. Losing a dear friend is always hard. We often share things with friends we never discuss with family. As for the Lights kittylester that made me chuckle, although I realise the situation is nothing to laugh at really.

Baker sounds as if all four paws are firmly under the table Christmas turkey indeed. A discerning gentleman and good to know your staff are looking after you.

I realise my previous post was full of typos from a post it note I left myself last night, but I had something on my mind and was in a bit of a tizz. Finally got CH seen today. I have been scrutinising him for a couple of days, but got the manlike 'Im fine'. It was obvious something was wrong with his central vision and he now has a diagnosis of dry macular degeneration of both eyes, a macular hole in one eye and cataracts on both. Yes more buggerations but I am sure we will get there.

I hope all are missing the storm we keep hearing about and that soops broadband stays 'up' so to speak.

morethan I have no words for you that will make things easier. You are an amazing woman with a lot to shoulder. Try and sleep well tonight. ?

Baggs Sat 08-Feb-20 15:43:24

kitty, I think they're gluten free. Oats are the only grain.

I tripped over a kerb on Wednesday & hurt my shoulder. Had four xrays and they initially thought there were no breaks but then the hospital and my GP were apparently trying to contact me Thursday and Friday because they'd found a tuberosity fracture. They kept calling when I was having a nap (hurt shoulders are exhausting) and my phone was switched to silent and I don't call unknown numbers back. Eventually GP left a message and I called back. The sling the hospital gave me was hurting my neck so I slung it. GP said I should go to a nearer hospital (you guys will know how spread Argyll is re. hospitals because of all soop's hospital wanderings) and get a collar and cuff sling. As it happens I still had the one from when I broke my wrist three years ago so I'm using that.

And there was me getting all set to start some bicycle expeditions and big gardening tasks as the days got longer! Hey ho. Patience is a virtue. ?
