Seriously Smileless there are kettles on the market which can be tipped over safely to fill a mug etc. They are frequently used by the visually impaired. To lessen the weight to fill it with water may be a plastic jug could be used? We really cannot have him being waited on hand and foot.

Made sure he didn't fill the kettle as he's not supposed to lift anything for the foreseeable future. I can see he's already getting bored; it's going to be a long few weeks.

Baggs I read on another thread you have managed to find much needed rest and comfort for your shoulder. Nothing is worse lying in bed in pain watching the time creep by slowly.

Smileless I am all for self-care but even I had to admit defeat when in the kitchen these men with their crutches and Zimmer frames could not boil an egg or boil a kettle between them. Most had loving wives at home. I had to return to army rations.

doodle, the autumn leaves fabric was bought for a quilt I made a few years ago for another gransnetter. She wanted leafiness for a forest bedroom. What I have left is being used in "scrappies", small pieces of patchwork which I then fit together to make arty farty wall hangings.

I'm also putting together a table runner for a friend who keeps us supplied with home-grown eggs. It's kind of in payment for the eggs though we did supply her with a few cockerels over the years and then our leftover chicken feed when our chickens got foxed because DD kept forgetting to shut the henhouse at night.

Made my own coffee, hope there's a cheese scone left for me!

Mr. S. wasn't thrilled at the thought of having the bed changed at 5.00am or a cold invigorating shower; strange creatures these men.

Good news about your DH's recovery going well Carillion. It must be a worry for you both, fingers crossed that he wont need further surgery.

Good morning dear soop and kind kitchen friends. I'm just able to send a quick catch-up on DH's progress. He saw his surgeon last week (6 weeks after his spine op). He'd been having some severe right hip pain...he's had two replacements on that hip in the past...and was very anxious that another might be an outcome but fortunately his doctor said this was not unusual as his spine is realigning, post op.

We were very relieved. He's now been given fifteen physio appointments between now and his next appointment in late April. He'll then be X rayed and decisions will be made about further surgery or not. In any event I feel he's more comfortable than he was and I can see his mood has lifted.

We're off to the physio shortly and he's managing to get in and out of the car reasonably well...he'd love to be driving but that won't happen just yet!

I have tried to read recent posts and am sending love and prayers to everyone in need. I don't want to leave anyone out and therefore am TOYA.

I must however, send dear Morethan special prayers at this desperately sad time, can't stop thinking about her.xx

I think my laptop has been holding out on me. Yesterday I could hardly find any kitchen posts and wondered what was wrong with everyone. Now I've found lots of posts I've missed and have tried to catch up. Welcome, Simleless. It's good that you've found the kitchen. We try hard to keep our spirits up in here, no matter what is going on outside and I hope we help you through your DH's convalescence.
kitty, sorry the chickenpox has got round to Wolfie. It tends to be a family affair, catching one child after another. Happened to us when I was 10 and kept my poor mum on the hop. My aunt got it as an adult and was very poorly so you are right to keep away.
Funny old weather this week- alternating between bright and dreich. This morning is cold and quite bright. There was hoar frost on the shed roof earlier. That's usually my cue to go back to bed and keep warm.

Smileless I was matron there recently and I was very fortunate- I frequently had empty beds. For some very strange reason the men really wanted to return home although I thought they needed a couple of more days under my tender, loving care.

I still do not understand why they objected to changing their bedding etc at 5am each morning. A cold shower was invigorating I thought.

He's doing as he's told so far but I'll tell him about the possibility of the hospital wing here on GN and I've no idea who'll be matron so he'd better watch out.

GG Tara my cat can beat your GS, wanting cuddles after I returned from the loo just after 2 am but she did allow me to sleep until 7 am.

Very cold here- I only have to pick up an Amazon parcel and then stay in the warmth I think. I intend doing some heavy duty tidying- the charity shops should be pleased.

GS had his regular sleepover last nigh, but for some strange reason he was awake at 5.30 am, consequently I am already shattered and doubting if I have the energy to last till bedtime?

DGC for the weekend so we are off to buy some new games. We shall go to the charity shops first.

Fennel, that made me think of wash days when I was a child, and being allowed to use the ponch to pummel the washing in the tub. I don`t think I`d let youngsters loose with the old flat irons though, they`d be VERY hot. I had a mangle when I was first married, great things, as long as you kept your fingers away from those rollers!

Welcome smileless. Sorry to hear your DH has been ill. Hope he makes a good recovery. Looking after a patient (especially a male one ?) can be very tiring. Don’t forget to look after yourself too.

Good evening ladies. I hope you don't mind my butting in, this is my first post here and I really fancied a light hearted and friendly thread.

I've been playing nurse maid all day as Mr. S. came home from hospital yesterday following surgery; I'm already knackered and bless him it will be weeks before he's fully recovered.

PS soop, my ironing board is set up and very busy but not for clothes ?

I think that's one of my favourite songs from my childhood. We sang it at school. So cheery about humble chores which, I always feel, if done mindfully can be very satisfying.

I have a lot of other favourites too that my dad used to sing. Often went to sleep listening to him singing to his guitar accompaniment. This was a small Spanish guitar that a monk gave him when my dad was on a pilgrimage to Rome.
