Money talks. Or hopefully not.

With regard to surrogacy, I don't really know, I haven't given it a lot of thought. There will be a raft of reasons why this method is used and I don't feel qualified enough or know enough to give an opinion.

If the Kim Kardashian's of this world were being surrogates then I might be convinced it wasnt the exploitation of women. It's not a niche view to be opposed to surrogacy, it is illegal in a number if European countries.

I am adopted, I was three months old when my mum and dad adopted me. I was told when I was 11 years old.

I had a wonderful happy childhood and two wonderful parents. Damaged - certainly not. I was the only child so felt lonely on occasions but that is all. I had a fully and busy childhood with holidays, ponies, dance lessons and a good education.

Unless you have been adopted, you cannot possibly know.

Yes Annie, it was a very happy ending, but as you she know, she subsequently suffered Post Natal Depression, but that’s another thread. She is very well now thank goodness. I do wonder if all the hormones and upset over infertility cause the PND.
Suzie, yes three issues all to do with infertility. We have experience of two of them in our family. That’s why I can’t condemn surrogacy outright, although we didn’t have experience of that. Would people feel the same about surrogacy if it wasn’t a super rich pop star, but an ordinary family?

May7 my younger daughter discussed all the options with the clinic, they decided against surrogacy, they feared the surrogate mother choosing to keep the baby , and my daughter longed to experience that first movement in her womb, giving birth, she thought carefully how she may feel
when the baby was born, there is so much emotional pain
in infertility.

So back to the original theme of the posting then Robbie Williams Ayda and Surrogacy

suziewoozie Sat 15-Feb-20 12:55:18

Adoption IVF and surrogacy are three completely different issues with their own ethical dilemmas and challenges.

maddyone Sat 15-Feb-20 12:52:09

Suzie,
Just spotted your answer to my question, thank you. At times I admit that I felt upset for all the families that can’t afford IVF, let alone go to one of the best clinics in London. But I couldn’t watch my darling girl in such distress when we had the ability to try to stop it. We’d just retired and were able to spend 5/6 days a week running up and down to London with her for the daily blood tests etc. It might not have worked, but for us it did.

Anniebach
Yes you are so right. That's what I was saying really I've never been in that position so my thinking is to be challenged. Never been hungry enough to steal a loaf of bread either but I would if I was. Dont think I could ever use another woman to carry a baby for me though but who knows ????

Anniebach Sat 15-Feb-20 12:50:32

maddy I am so sorry , it’s agony isn’t it ? How wonderful your daughter did have her longed for children.

maddyone Sat 15-Feb-20 12:45:01

Annie, my daughter miscarried her first pregnancy on Christmas Day, and her second miscarriage was on Mother’s Day. She became pregnant with her first naturally, and then could never get pregnant without IVF again. She then miscarried that pregnancy, twins, on Mother’s Day. That was when we decided to go for treatment in London at ARGC, one of the best clinics, and we have had this wonderful gift of three grandchildren. But I’d like someone to answer who’s been critical, did we buy our daughter her family? And is that wrong?

Anniebach Sat 15-Feb-20 12:41:20

Stealing a loaf of bread is morally wrong, sod morals if your
starving.

May7 Sat 15-Feb-20 12:36:19

Thank you for that link suziewoozie
Definitely food for thought.
IMO surrogacy is morally wrong but then I have never had the pain
of infertility so it does kind of skew my judgementconfused

Anniebach Sat 15-Feb-20 12:35:35

maddy yes it was heartbreaking, but I think the hardest was
after an IVF success, and twins, she telephoned me one morning , said ‘I’m bleeding, raced to the clinic, scans etc, one
baby still there, ten days later she lost that baby two.

For those who speak of wanting a child as ‘entitlement’ ,
my younger daughter did one pregnancy test it was Mothering
Sunday, test positive . She miscarried again. She said ‘I was
a mother that Mothering Sunday .

To all , stop judging women who long for a child, it isn’t an
entitlement to them,

suziewoozie Sat 15-Feb-20 12:35:33

You can’t equate surrogacy with adoption and I wouldn’t want RW with his infantile filthy ‘humour’ near any children I know. We have no idea what sort of family they are except that they are very rich

henetha Sat 15-Feb-20 12:31:44

They seem like a lovely family to me, and it's their business what they do. The surrogate would not have been forced into it, and was no doubt well rewarded.
I was adopted, and have adopted grandchildren. It often works out well.

sodapop Sat 15-Feb-20 12:29:08

I still don't understand why you think adoption is traumatic Bibbity

Reading this should give people food for thought

suziewoozie Sat 15-Feb-20 12:24:51

maddy funding IVF is not buying babies at all. Using another woman’s uterus to grow your own is imo and it commodifies women ( and the babies). I’ve got s vague idea that surrogacy is growing using poorer vulnerable women - I’ll see if I can find a link.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 15-Feb-20 12:10:32

Ayda was unable to have any more children after her second.

I understand that the two babies were carried by the same surrogate, using Robbies sperm and Aydas eggs.

Surrogacy has been around for years, I hope they will be a very happy family unit.

maddyone Sat 15-Feb-20 11:51:59

Annie, twelve rounds of IVF equals unbearable pain for the couple and their parents. Plus three miscarriages. What awful pain you must have all suffered. So sorry.

maddyone Sat 15-Feb-20 11:48:21

Thanks Summerlove, does that make a difference at all? I think it does to me because the babies are theirs.

maddyone Sat 15-Feb-20 11:46:01

Did we buy babies because we (and the other grandparents) paid for our children’s IVF? It wasn’t available to them on the NHS unless they had three miscarriages which is difficult if you’re not getting pregnant.

Bibbity Sat 15-Feb-20 11:44:57

Exactly. I never said they should be left in the situations they were originally in. That’s why I said there was no other option. But that doesn’t make the effects any less damaging.

Summerlove Sat 15-Feb-20 11:44:35

Maddy, from what I’ve read the children born by surrogate are the couples biological children
