Got to thinking just now - can we be kind about posters❓

With all this about meanness nowadays on social media how about a little experiment.

I’ve posted.

Can the next person up look at the post above them (about me, to start with) and try to say something nice about the one before? We do ALL have good qualities I’m certain......

It might make for an uplifting thread?

If you can’t (or don’t ‘know’ the poster above to you) leave it and wait. Come back later when you recognise a poster’s style.

Off we go. I’m waiting (in trepidation ha!)

Doodle ?you can say more if you like ( prod!)

I can confidently say that without your good self and Chewbacca our parties and bar fly life would have withered
On the vine long ago...hic.

Chewbacca Wed 19-Feb-20 20:39:52

Lemon is a good hearted soul, full of good cheer --except when asked to pay for a round--; and she likes to drag me into mischief when I'm really not a mischievous person at all! wink

Doodle Wed 19-Feb-20 22:31:06

I used to be a nice girl ?‍? and lived in soop’s kitchen in my twin set and pearls and then one dark night I was enticed to enter the portals of the Argy Bargy. I have never been the same since.?????‍? They poisoned me with poteen and loo cleaner and enticed me with males of a nautical nature. ⛴ I am a fallen woman and it is all due to the likes of chewy, lemon and marydoll hussies and temptresses. Thank you all. I haven’t laughed so much in years grin

Pantglas2 Thu 20-Feb-20 07:48:24

Doodle - you missed out the word ‘Jezebel’ in your penultimate sentence! Such a lovely, satisfying mouthful methinks.....!

BlueBelle Thu 20-Feb-20 07:58:59

So where is the Argy Bargy thread doodle I ve never seen it

Marydoll Thu 20-Feb-20 08:07:11

The Argy is no more. It was meant to be an antidote to all the nastiness on GN at that time.
It reached 1000 posts a number of times, but as only a few people participated in the end, it went into administration. sad
Poor Soop and some of the Kitcheners were led astray in there, when they accepted an invitation the a party night. . blush

GrannyGravy13 Thu 20-Feb-20 08:51:20

I am staring a GN petition Bring back The Argy

Marydoll Thu 20-Feb-20 08:55:44

I was thinking we could open a new establishment, we will need to put our heads together.
Not literally of course. grin

lemongrove Thu 20-Feb-20 08:59:41

BlueBelle You never saw it......but it was there, for years and years grin
Us few ‘regulars’ who ran the bar decided it was time to end it
As it was dwindling with about six contributors ( although we were never short of something to say.)
The Alphabet Bar is the replacement for it on GN, where you can drop in and say anything you like, just start the sentence with whatever letter in the alphabet comes next.
It’s on the games thread, although not really a game.

Chewbacca Thu 20-Feb-20 09:00:54

There is still the Alphabet Bar which is run by the same management and has the same dodgy regulars. soop has been known to stagger in there and cause a ruckus or two. It would be good to see more visitors, you'd be very welcome. your first 5 drinks are paid for by lemon wink

Charleygirl5 Thu 20-Feb-20 09:03:24

I have had yet another go at opening the cafe but to no avail. Marydoll the newbies who appear to be able to go anywhere must feel abandoned with no friendly soul to greet them.

I am a Kitchener and no way would I be led astray in the Argy. I failed miserably trying to show many the error of their ways. It was the cleanliness or lack of which was my bugbear because I had to sit there. No way would I drink anything- I brought my own. The "scores on doors" there would have been in the high minuses and the place would and should have been closed by Environmental Health earlier.

lemongrove Thu 20-Feb-20 09:05:56

Haha! As if Doodle it’s a strict cash from customers establishment, and the till has been wired up to the mains to put a stop to Marydoll continually running off with the takings ( usually to Italy to pursue young men.)?
So, if anyone fancies a drink/food/ friendly chat of a slightly dubious nature, drop into the bar anytime.

lemongrove Thu 20-Feb-20 09:08:46

Charley.....I seem to remember you dancing on the tables in The Argy one party night, dressed in very little, and we found you there under the same table the next morning, very much worse for wear.?

lemongrove Thu 20-Feb-20 09:10:58

Soop still brings her baked goods to The Alphabet Bar and stays for a snifter or two, she is fond of the jukebox and selects some strange records.?

Marydoll Thu 20-Feb-20 09:13:50

I'm sitting here smiling, thinking of the various difficulties we got into. A nice way to face the day! smile

I have to go, Big Jim (Yes, he is still on the scene) is wondering where I have got to. He got up two hours ago and thought I was on my way down behind him.
GN is so addictive! grin

Chewbacca Thu 20-Feb-20 09:18:53

Soop brings baked goods into the bar? Really? I thought they were fossils. They taste like fossils. hmm

Charleygirl5 Thu 20-Feb-20 09:36:10

lemongrove I do think you were mistaken- I could not physically get on a table, never mind dance nowadays and I also could not get under a table because I would not be able to extricate myself from there without help and you lot were beyond helping yourselves, never mind a poor soul like myself.

I have to say with the strict Catholic upbringing I had, I was shocked hence the reason I stay in the kitchen. Religion has long gone but some is well ingrained- the nuns have a lot to answer for.

lemongrove Thu 20-Feb-20 09:39:20

If you don’t remember.....it shows how far gone you were Charley ( I was shocked by your antics tbh)?
All nuns have a lot to answer for.

Sorry Urmstongran for hijacking your thread with trips down memory lane for some of us.?

Lovetopaint037 Thu 20-Feb-20 09:44:49

First impression I had when coming on Gransnet was that it was a much kinder posting site than mumsnet.

soop Thu 20-Feb-20 12:31:22

Methinks that my good name and impeccable reputation (together with my superior baking skills) are being torn to tatters. Never mind. I'm not in the least bit "put out". I like everyone. Some might call that sad. So be it. wink

soop Thu 20-Feb-20 12:32:35

Charleyg Correction. I am not at all fond of nuns. hmm

Jane10 Thu 20-Feb-20 12:40:56

My personal assistants Fabrice and Antoine still haven't returned from the Argy bargy. I have to somehow manage with only my butler, housekeeper, ladies maid, sundry other maids, cook, chauffeurs and, of course, the garden and stable staff. It's been very difficult for me.

Elegran Thu 20-Feb-20 13:01:59

You need a gamekeeper then, Jane I've heard there is a very hardworking one available who is extremely good at games. I think his name is Manners.

soop Thu 20-Feb-20 13:36:54

Elegran Is he related to the infamous Oliver Mellors? Jane needs an introduction.

Urmstongran Thu 20-Feb-20 13:40:54

Some might call that sad. So be it

I think you are kindness personified soop and the world is a much nicer place for having you in it.
