Got to thinking just now - can we be kind about posters❓

Urmstongran Sun 16-Feb-20 22:30:25

With all this about meanness nowadays on social media how about a little experiment.

I’ve posted.

Can the next person up look at the post above them (about me, to start with) and try to say something nice about the one before? We do ALL have good qualities I’m certain......

It might make for an uplifting thread?

If you can’t (or don’t ‘know’ the poster above to you) leave it and wait. Come back later when you recognise a poster’s style.

Off we go. I’m waiting (in trepidation ha!)

Um... Cherrytree. Soz. x
My memory isn’t what I thought & I’d only had to scroll down.
Oh dear.

Let’s hear it for soop
?

GrannyGravy13 Mon 17-Feb-20 19:04:23

I have a lot to thank Anniebach’for, and soop is an absolute star ?

SueDonim Mon 17-Feb-20 19:30:59

Can I just add a thanks to Urmstongran for giving me ‘permission’ to stop reading books I’m not enjoying, on the 50 books a year thread. ?

Tangerine Mon 17-Feb-20 20:05:13

I always think SueDonim has a rather clever name on Gransnet.

So many people write interesting posts. I enjoy Gillybob's posts very often.

Paddyanne has often said thought-provoking things too.

Megs36 Mon 17-Feb-20 20:51:34

I am soooo confused. Everyone knows everyone. ??

BlueSky Mon 17-Feb-20 21:02:10

This thread reminds me of a classic vintage sketch of the Two Ronnies, where they were in Mastermind answering 'the question before last'. The results were hilarious! grin

Urmstongran Mon 17-Feb-20 21:10:02

Love it BlueSky!

Oh Megs if you are a newbie, just give it time. Keep posting & soon we will get to ‘know’ you better - and you, us! You’ll see. I felt exactly the same when I started.

SueDonim makes me laugh with her dry, quick witted posts. I think that if we met irl, it would be a lot of fun.

Callistemon seems to me to be a very kind, gentle soul. Her posts are always very careful not to cause upset, even when she might be disagreeing with someone.

Lemongrass was the very first poster who reached out to me when I first joined GN and she made me feel welcome. Since then I've laughed until tears have streamed down my face at some of her quick ripostes on the "fun threads".

Smileless really should change her name! Her personal anguish is well known but she never posts anything but kind, gentle and supportive posts. She's listened to me when I've droned on and on and on.....

I like MawB's quick, rapid fire, incisive posts; I'm guessing nothing gets past *Maw without her spotting it!

MissAdventure has a wonderful, offbeat sense of humour that frequently makes me laugh out loud. She's quick too! grin

I'll think of others.....

Iam64 Mon 17-Feb-20 21:49:47

Chewbacca, because I love her name and enjoy her posts. Also because I think we share northern roots.
I enjoy the fact we can talk about things and bring different views in without it getting yuk.
Same with POGS and lemon

Jane10, come out of that cloakroom, if you really plan to flounce, you’ll need a flouncing frock and you won’t find it in there. So, stay, come out and join in again.

Artdecogran Mon 17-Feb-20 22:00:29

Chewbacca because she must be a star wars fan with a name like that or else she’s very hairy and very big and makes funny noises, particularly when out shopping.

Marydoll Mon 17-Feb-20 22:10:25

Megs, as Urmstongran says, please let us get to know you and you us.
I too felt ignored at first, but I persevered, although I was actually very nervous.
It's only by posting, people will get to know who you are. However, that doesn't mean you have to be on on all the time.

I remember one of your posts where you mentioned you and your husband's circumstances over the last few years.
You came across as a very strong, but private person and I admired you for your determination and candour.
By the way, that's not meant to be patronising!

We are not a bad bunch on the Good morning thread, why don't you pop in again and say "Hello", if you have time.

Megs36 Mon 17-Feb-20 22:12:10

Urmstongran, thanks but I have posted on and off for at least six months and never really had a reply??
Am I using the wrong deodorant?

Urmstongran Mon 17-Feb-20 22:18:03

You smell okay to me!
?

Urmstongran Mon 17-Feb-20 22:19:25

Where are we up to?

Artdecogran

Anybody?

TrendyNannie6 Mon 17-Feb-20 22:19:45

Ok urmstongran jane10 she’s got a good sense of humour, plus I don’t want her to get her coat and leave lol

TrendyNannie6 Mon 17-Feb-20 22:28:50

Thankyou callistemon

POGS Mon 17-Feb-20 23:04:49

Urmstongran Mon 17-Feb-20 22:19:25
'Where are we up to?'

Iam 64

Respectful poster who at times sits on opposite tracks to others, as we all do, however remains courteous and enjoys discussion/debate with those who simply hold a different opinion. I always read her posts and enjoy the maturity of debate we have between us.

grumppa Mon 17-Feb-20 23:14:04

POGS, always calm and rational on the political threads, even when outnumbered.

Callistemon Mon 17-Feb-20 23:15:00

Chewbacca thank you for your kind words.
kind and gentle - I'm not sure DH would agree with you.

I imagine you like your namesake, wise and loyal but not as tall and hairy.

Daisyboots Mon 17-Feb-20 23:44:14

Megs 36 have no worries I have been posting for about two years but until recently been mainly ignored. Keep posting and we can reply to each other. Lovely thread Urmston gran and such a lovely change to some of the keyboard warriors posts that have started to appear on some threads. Thank you for starting it.

Sark Tue 18-Feb-20 06:20:51

Just seen this lovely thread so might be a bit late joining in.
I don't know you Daisyboots but you come across as a really nice kind and caring lady.
And I love your namesmile

BlueBelle Tue 18-Feb-20 06:40:41

Ahh daisyboots we all feel invisible at times I love missadventure quirky humour in fact I like most of the posters on Gransnet there are good bits about everyone even the posters we don’t always agree with

Nortsat46 Tue 18-Feb-20 08:21:35

I really like BlueBelle’s posts - kind where it’s needed, interesting and thoughtful of others. I always read posts when I see they are from her.
Of course I don’t know her, but I feel as though I do, a little ... and I like her name (one of my favourite flowers) ?

lavenderzen Tue 18-Feb-20 08:36:21

I am in a reflective mood this morning and I can think of quite a lot of posters who need a mention on this thread: Annie, Smileless, Gulli, Summerlove, GrannyGravy, Iam64 and many more that I have forgotten. Thank you.

Jane10 Tue 18-Feb-20 08:45:53

Very nice to hear that I'm appreciated by some. Thanks.
I'm often left worrying about posters with problems. Poor Luckygirl and Gillybob have had an awful time lately.
On the house moving thread Shandy57 is bravely dealing with a difficult situation in selling or trying to sell her unusual property. She's getting lots of kind support from several Grans - step forward Craftygran, Whiff, Grammaretto and others.
