Got to thinking just now - can we be kind about posters❓

With all this about meanness nowadays on social media how about a little experiment.

I’ve posted.

Can the next person up look at the post above them (about me, to start with) and try to say something nice about the one before? We do ALL have good qualities I’m certain......

It might make for an uplifting thread?

If you can’t (or don’t ‘know’ the poster above to you) leave it and wait. Come back later when you recognise a poster’s style.

Off we go. I’m waiting (in trepidation ha!)

I definitely feel invisible today!!!

MawB Tue 18-Feb-20 09:09:32

Of course you are not Sark but maybe there are others like me after a late night ( I went to see Parasite and got home at 11.30) whose ? are not yet in focus or head in gear! Still a bit ???? grin

Bathsheba Tue 18-Feb-20 09:09:57

Haha Sark I think a lot of people are getting overlooked, while posters just praise others randomly instead of the poster immediately before them. Don't take it personally - GN threads have a way of regularly going off course wink

BlueSky Tue 18-Feb-20 09:12:52

I can see you Sark! I can't say I know you but then I'm mainly familiar with people posting on the Health forum. Didn't want to ignore you cafe

Jane10 whose always supportive and caring.

Urmstongran whose posts are always well balanced, sensible
and show consideration to others. Great threadsmile.

Chewbacca and Madgran whose friendship and support is invaluable.

lemongrove and MissAdventure who never fail to make me chuckle.

Iam for her sensible and informative posts and whose advice when we first got our crazy cockapoo puppy was priceless.

Anniebach especially for the lovely threads she starts on the religious/spirituality thread.

PF, hugshelp, love0c, Rhinestone and everyone who gives support on the estrangement threads.

Starlady for her insightful contributions which are always delivered with compassion and understanding.

Everyone who has taken the time to contribute to this threadflowers.

Great perception Smileless as your posts always are. What a lovely summing up of posters that I do recognise.I haven't been around GN quite long enough to figure out personalities behind posters but I'm working on it. A lovely thread Urmstongran

Urmstongran Tue 18-Feb-20 09:24:08

Nail on head Bathsheba! I suppose the thread may stall for a while if the last poster isn’t so well known. All are welcome though!

Yes, it’s not really for random shout outs of lovely posters as such lavenderzen. There are LOADS (all of us, in different ways really) of lovely GN’ers.

Trying to marshal the posts - anyone ‘know’ Sark or lavenderzen and would like to say a few nice things about them? I’m sure they’d appreciate hearing it!

Jane10 Tue 18-Feb-20 09:24:40

If only we could have a massed Grans rally! By golly we could sort out today's world!

lavenderzen Tue 18-Feb-20 09:38:40

Sorry about that Urmston! Didn't think anyone would mind.

Nortsat46 Tue 18-Feb-20 09:43:16

I always read Sarks posts and welcome her sensible and kind input. I remember your posts Sark because I like your name and love the beauty of the island. ?

Sark Tue 18-Feb-20 09:58:55

Thank you everyone...being stupidly sensitive today I think! It is heartwarming there are so many lovely people out there so thanks again.

curvygran950 Tue 18-Feb-20 10:01:08

Rather feeling my ‘newness’ on this thread, I’ve had very kind and helpful support from some of you on the help forum and also the food forum ( soup maker, anyone?!)- and all been positive and kind , so thank you . I’m a bit wary of contributing to some of the threads elsewhere due to the quite nasty and aggressive posts that sadly appear on some of these .

curvygran950 Tue 18-Feb-20 10:02:28

Typo- health not help, sorry!

Artdecogran Tue 18-Feb-20 10:02:39

This might be a lovely thread for some but for others it’s just proving that despite starting threads (and receiving maximum allowed posts) we are invisible or not worthy of notice. I wish I had never read it.

Curlywhirly Tue 18-Feb-20 10:09:47

Aw, Artdecogran I wouldn't lose heart; I think it is just that some posters stand out more than others, and it can be for many reasons, something as simple as having a cute name! By the way, my name has nothing to do with having curly hair, I don't, it's straight! It just rhymes with part of my name!

Curlywhirly Tue 18-Feb-20 10:13:30

And, if it's any consolation, there are a few others who have also been invisible - I'm one of them!

Marydoll Tue 18-Feb-20 10:20:27

Artdecogran, please don't lost heart. That is indeed an achievement in itself, getting maximum posts on your threads.

I haven't seen you posting, that is because I only read a few threads, so don't recognise your name. I only read first thing and last thing at night. Too much to do.
It doesn't mean that you are less valued than others.

I thought some people could be upset, by not being mentioned, it's fully understandable and quite unsettling, as Urmonstongran, rightly so, intended it to be a feel good thread in the light of some of the nastier comments recently.

Yiayia4 Tue 18-Feb-20 10:29:30

I feel invisible most of the time so know how you feel Artdecogran like your name by the way

Urmstongran Tue 18-Feb-20 10:31:28

Exactly as Marydoll has said Artdecogran. I’m truly sorry you wish you hadn’t read the posts and feel ‘ignored’.

We all want to be liked. Perhaps as a group it would be more inclusive if just occasionally us ‘older hands’ looked out for more newbie posters comments and replied directly to them. I shall start doing that from today myself Artdecogran

Thank you - you have given me something to think about there. And kindness is never wasted!

And lavenderzen absolutely no need to apologise. Your intentions were good hearted.
?

Where are we up to? Anyone?

Urmstongran Tue 18-Feb-20 10:32:47

I think it’s curvygran. Any takers?

Hi there Yiayia ?

Marydoll Tue 18-Feb-20 10:34:53

Urmonstongran, good idea! I shall try and do that too.

Charliegirl is very good at noticing newbies and gives them a warm welcome.
Unfortunately the thread has been frozen for a week! sad

lavenderzen Tue 18-Feb-20 10:44:52

Artdeco I have read some of the threads you have started and I loved your poster name (I am a great artdeco china fan).

Yiayia4 Tue 18-Feb-20 10:45:53

Hi Urmonstongran

Charleygirl5 Tue 18-Feb-20 10:53:54

Marydoll I still cannot get access to that thread but others appear to- I really cannot understand the machinations of GNHQ.

I did have a rest because I had my head bitten off by a newbie but not everybody thankfully is the same. I have decided I am a really sensitive soul.

Urmstongran Tue 18-Feb-20 10:57:05

Marydoll ?

I’ve just started doing so - on the GM thread. Thanks Artdecogran and Yiayia for the nudge. x
