Got to thinking just now - can we be kind about posters❓

With all this about meanness nowadays on social media how about a little experiment.

I’ve posted.

Can the next person up look at the post above them (about me, to start with) and try to say something nice about the one before? We do ALL have good qualities I’m certain......

It might make for an uplifting thread?

If you can’t (or don’t ‘know’ the poster above to you) leave it and wait. Come back later when you recognise a poster’s style.

Off we go. I’m waiting (in trepidation ha!)
?

Back to the rails !!

Marydoll I haven't read any previous posts yet but I'm sorry there were 'digs'. It seem to be an inherent part of GN, hence the very reason Urmstongran began this thread!

I like Urmstongran - she has a head start because she's from the North, albeit that she now lives elsewhere.
So do I but you can't take The North out of the Lass, thank goodness.

Always sound advice and concilliatory words when appropriate and this thread has been lovely.
Even 'nice' grin

Jane10 Mon 24-Feb-20 20:56:10

As a member of the Rufus fan club I have no idea what you're on about. Obviously, something has been said somewhere that has upset you Marydoll. Rufus is a cheeky so and so but I don't think he's malicious.

Marydoll Mon 24-Feb-20 20:29:58

For all those posters, who seem to think I'm a pearl clutching, sensitive soul and over-reacting, there are a number of reasons for my response, which as I have already said, I am not willing to discuss on this forum. It is not my way, to bad mouth a poster.
I have held my tongue up until now, but enough is enough.
Some are so quick to jump in, only knowing one part of a story.
Suffice to say, recently I blocked a poster, who was causing me anxiety.

Those of you who know me, know I always try to be kind and non-controversial, so I will leave you to make up your own mind about the reasons for my perceived sensitivity.
Just in case some of Rufus' fan club think I was the one who sent the nasty PM to him, it certainly wasn't me. I wouldn't waste my time.

So there you have it. Now let's get back to the nice comments on this thread, without the digs or trying to stir things.

Urmonstongran, I'm so sorry that your lovely thread has been derailed.

Callistemon Mon 24-Feb-20 19:37:21

Marydoll Pommie is used frequently and indeed, my DD has been asked 'you a Pom'? on more than one occasion. If she took offence she would probably not be as successful as she is.

Megs36 Mon 24-Feb-20 19:32:30

OOh Rufus, get your naughty stool out again, sounds like some tender soul is offended again!
Have read your other posts but due to me advanced age I’m getting them all mixed up.Keep up the good work.
Good you’re all on form wherever you are.
Just off to watch that great melodrama East Enders.

Jane10 Mon 24-Feb-20 18:31:15

I've obviously missed something. A carry over from a previous thread? I really haven't seen anything I'd take such umbrage at. I'm used to being insulted though so it's water off a duck's back to me. Quack quack

Charleygirl5 Mon 24-Feb-20 18:21:29

I am afraid I am with Marydoll on this one. I am Scottish, I just happen to live in England

Elegran Mon 24-Feb-20 18:16:20

From what I've read from him in conciliatory mode, I'd hate to be standing too near Rufus when he does have a grudge to settle! grin

MawB Mon 24-Feb-20 18:12:37

I am not sensitive either Jane10 but would like to see an end to “digs” at particular nationalities.

Marydoll Mon 24-Feb-20 17:45:54

Not sensitive at all, but not prepared to discuss on this forum.

Jane10 Mon 24-Feb-20 17:41:35

Gosh some of you are very sensitive! I don't mind being called a pommie, a Scottish mother or living north of the wall. They're all true! I could tell you some much worse ones but you'd faint so I'll refrain from doing so.
Just off for Expletive Corps parade. ☺️

Marydoll Mon 24-Feb-20 17:19:53

As my old mother used to say: If you haven't anything nice to say about someone, say nothing at all.

I thought that this thread was about being kind to posters. ?

Marydoll Mon 24-Feb-20 17:15:21

...where it appears we can be more relaxed and open-minded than some of our Pommie counterparts especially those North of the Wall!

pom·mies Australian & New Zealand Offensive Slang. Used as a disparaging term for a British person.

Not amusing at all. sad

MawB Mon 24-Feb-20 17:06:39

Maw Sorry! I was on my way to bed, but I have to refute your statement.
We didn't appreciate being called "buddies" in a derogatory context, accused of plotting using PM, being told to "ride off into the sunset" and also to "bog off". She knows who I mean! sad

If anybody did write those words to you Rufus (and/or anybody else) it certainly wasn’t me and I would be interested to see precisely they were employed. I’ll eat my hat (or even yours, bobbing corks and all) if it was me.
You say we didn’t appreciate being called buddies - how do you describe a”derogatory context” ?
I didn’t like being referred to obliquely as the “Scottish mother” much either, but as the hand of friendship has now been effectively bitten off, I shall shut up and let you get on with digs about members north of the Wall as if you were Donald Trump.

Buffybee Mon 24-Feb-20 13:55:55

Back on thread:
I love reading Rufus2 posts as he has such a good sense of humour and also because he is a fellow Mancunian.
OooRoo Rufus

Callistemon Mon 24-Feb-20 13:52:45

Well, I did pm Rufus, Maw, to see if he was ok

But he never replied!! sad

Charleygirl5 Mon 24-Feb-20 13:49:22

Rufus it is such a dank, miserable day here today I envy you going off for a night's sleep.

I am trying unsuccessfully to pick up two parcels from "click and collect" which I find useful instead of hanging around here all day.

Jane10 Mon 24-Feb-20 13:42:54

Gawd Rufus2. Did someone actually post such nasty stuff to you? I missed it and would certainly have called out the Grans Expletive Corps of which I'm commandant to sort them out on your behalf.

Rufus2 Mon 24-Feb-20 13:34:28

both had been quick to spring to the defence or even attack when a slight was (perhaps wrongly?) perceived.

Maw Sorry! I was on my way to bed, but I have to refute your statement.
We didn't appreciate being called "buddies" in a derogatory context, accused of plotting using PM, being told to "ride off into the sunset" and also to "bog off". She knows who I mean! sad
I don't call that a "slight" by any stretch of the imagination and was technically reportable, but as you correctly note, we are in Australia where it appears we can be more relaxed and open-minded than some of our Pommie counterparts. especially those North of the Wall!
You may also have noted that I still have an excellent memory, but I don't use it to bear grudges; far more worthwhile things to do with it! grin
OoRoo

MawB Mon 24-Feb-20 12:15:15

Thank you Rufus - I am glad to see you restored to health.
I mentioned those two particular friends as I believe one of them at least lives in the same hemisphere (and before anybody reminds me, I appreciate that is a big place!) and both had been quick to spring to the defence or even attack when a slight was (perhaps wrongly?) perceived.
I realise that there are many other Scottish Grans, including those who do not live in Scotland such as myself. but to the best of my knowledge PECS is not one of them.
Anyway glad you are back with us, when any member drops off the radar, it is always worrying.

Rufus2 Mon 24-Feb-20 12:04:45

Is there nobody among his regular friends who could contact him to see if he is OK- fatgran and megs spring to mind unless I am mistaken
Maw I'm touched by your sudden expression of concern about me! Long time no hear! wink
I'm also touched by all the good wishes in this thread and I've printed it off for a good read and re-read in the back garden, armed with cups of liver-restorer, but not in sunshine today; very humid again 30C (37 tomorrow) and drizzly; a bit like Cornwall without the heat!
Btw; you mention my great buddies Megs and Fatgran, but you forgot my other buddies Charleygirl 15, Marydoll, Pecs, Elegran, and a few other Scottish lasses who haven't made contact yet, but I suppose their weather has some influence!
I notice that this thread is great for reunions; even you and Grandad 1943 appearing together in one post, so keep up the good work! grin
Bless you! OoRoo

Mommawolf just brightens my day smile

Urmstongran Sat 22-Feb-20 20:42:19

Yes lemon .... I too love hearing from BradfordLass and more recently from Mommawolf. They both post such interesting stories.
One from NZ and the other from Norfolk.

Thank you SO much ladies!

lemongrove Sat 22-Feb-20 19:48:29

I enjoy BradfordLass’s posts from NZ always kind in a no nonsense way ( as is the way for Bradfordians)? and very interesting too, local customs, flora and fauna etc. Not to mention different weather .....I imagine her dressed in slightly hippy-ish clothes doing crafts that I could never do.

Callistemon Fri 21-Feb-20 21:53:31

BradfordLass
I really enjoy your posts from New Zealand.
There but for quirks of fate we might have been too, but I did manage to visit eventually.
