Will you be giving anything up for Lent? ♥️

No. I had enough brain washing as a child to last me a lifetime.

There are actually three separate disciplines we are to apply ourselves to in Lent, of which fasting is only one. (Doesn't even necessarily have to be fasting from food. Giving something up is a fast.) The other two are prayer and almsgiving. So we are indeed encouraged to replace what we are giving up with other pious works.

Have never seen the point about giving something up for Lent. What about doing something extra? I try to make sure that I do something every day for someone else, even if it's a small thing like a phone call. It's easy to carry on after Lent and it helps others. Have volunteered to have a Lent Reading Group which means preparing each week and hosting it. Worthwhile and rewarding.

I think for some it might be the ultimate. ‘ Virtue signalling’ ?

No - I’m an atheist

No.

I try (don’t always succeed!) to be nice all year round, not just for a few weeks.

I shall be giving up whatever time it takes me to prepare and deliver the weekly Lent Talks, which take place in a different church each week. (I'm part way through preparing Session One and have already spent about three hours on it.) Having done it last year I wasn't planning on putting my hand up to volunteer again, but as no-one else was keen to do it I found myself saying I would. hmm

As my reward I get to eat the 'frugal lunch' (bread and soup) that each church lays on for the congregation after the service. smile

Chocolate?
Wine?
Gransnet?

hmm

I think I might add good deeds instead.

Shrove Tuesday is over. Now it’s Lent.

Religious or not, denial and willpower is considered to be good for us!

Wednesday 26th February until Thursday 9 April.

Might you (a) be giving something up or (b) plan to add in some good deeds to your lifestyle?

I’m having a think about it tonight ....
