Has anyone learnt to swim as an older adult?

Just that really ,
I did have lessons for a couple of terms when I was at school but just as I was starting to get the hang of it and more confidence it stopped.
I wondered if anyone has how was it and how did you go about getting started.

My friend who was petrified of water recently learnt to swim at 60, you can’t keep her out of the water now

I learned to swim in my 40's, having had several goes at it when I was younger. The teacher took us up to the deep end, asked us to hold onto the rail and try to touch the bottom with our feet which meant going under water. She then asked us to let go and just stay in position. The following week we had to let go and try to touch the bottom. Finally she taught us how to float. That was an eye opener for me. I'm not a strong swimmer but to be able to float in a swimming pool whilst on holiday, looking up at a clear blue sky, was lovely. After learning to float she then taught us the strokes,
