It could be something tiny, or something life-changing. We'd love to know.

Just be yourself and not someone , others expect you to be .

1. Keep your words sweet, one day you may have to eat them.
2. Never let a fool kiss you or a kiss fool you
Wish I’d taken more notice of the latter ?

You know your child best, if s/he's ill don't be placated by "experts"!

My grandmother's advice. Marry a kind man, it's the most important quality in a man

Lucy127 Wed 11-Mar-20 12:20:16

After going through a long abusive marriage, I lost all my confidence. Then getting a job in a male dominated environment, I didn’t feel I could cope. Then someone said ‘just be yourself’. I took that advice and I had 25 great years with one of the emergency services. I grew back my confidence, rediscovered my sense of fun, and passed all that on to my children. Try it, it works if you stick to it. Good luck!

Regarding hesitation to save money and spend the lot instead
On payday theres some for me now and some for me later
It gave me a completely new perspective about savings

Never a lender or a borrower be. Well, except for a mortgage.

Now in retirement, if I don’t have the money I don’t buy it = meaning happiness is living within my means.

Learn to know the difference between things you can control and things you can't, and be strong enough to move on.

Madmaggie Wed 11-Mar-20 12:34:33

Never do anything you'd be ashamed to tell Jesus to his face.

redsue Wed 11-Mar-20 12:34:47

Never go to bed on an argument

Madmaggie Wed 11-Mar-20 12:38:27

No matter how grand a person thinks they are - they still put their trousers on one leg at a time ?

MarieEliza Wed 11-Mar-20 12:46:36

Best advice was my mother telling me I had the right man, she was right, I married him 47 years ago and haven’t regretted it

Blindfish50 Wed 11-Mar-20 12:48:25

1.Never get involved in your children's arguments
2.You don't always get what you want but you might get what you need. (From the Rolling Stones ) ?

My mother’s favourite and by golly how true
“Cast not thy pearls before swine”
and another
“the squeaking gate gets oiled” and my goodness she squeaked plenty!! Bless her.

trisher Wed 11-Mar-20 12:51:42

Shy bairns get nowt. (from my Geordie friends) Sounds awful but actually it encourages you to speak up for yourself.

When dealing with your children, keep all your promises and carry out all your threats! Made me more careful what I said to my children.

flash1701 Wed 11-Mar-20 12:52:22

Good manners cost nothing !

RubyGran Wed 11-Mar-20 13:02:52

Regarding a person's place in society, my mum always quoted her father's view that we are all human and thus deserve respect, saying, "There is no-one above you, and there is no one below you." I also remember that when my three children were small and I wished that I had more time for cleaning, Mum would always say, "Ahhh, the house will be there after you!"

Lookout01 Wed 11-Mar-20 13:13:32

My dad always said 'a place for everything and everything in its place'. I think that's why I've always been a tidy person

Shandy3 Wed 11-Mar-20 13:18:39

Mine was......
No matter how much you want something to happen, in any type of relationship (personal or work) the other person has to want it too before anything can happen.

In other words stop working hard at what you can't control! ?

grannyactivist Wed 11-Mar-20 13:20:45

anna7 - I gave the same advice to my daughters. smile

timetogo2016 Wed 11-Mar-20 13:29:15

If you have to think about do you need it the answer is leave it where it is.
You can only make a first impression once so get it right.

GrannySomerset Wed 11-Mar-20 13:33:04

My mother’s excellent advice - Never threaten or promise anything you can’t deliver. Proved to be very good parenting advice.

There are always two sides to every story!
