BL73. Long may your life be endlessly exciting. You always have some sagacious or witty comment that causes me to grin widely. Thank you for that. More mundanely, I've been enjoying LT in Halifax. Greedily thought it was a six parter but friend tells me tonight is current finale. ? If that's all I have to be sad about then I consider myself one very fortunate person. Furthermore sun is streaming through the window so I'll get out and have some free D. Yippee!

How lovely evie I m not too much of a cat person because the locals dig my garden and use it as their toilet but I used to love my own cats so can understand your happiness
I dreamt I found a cat last night, how strange
How about a photo of Peter

It's The Ides of March today....poor old Caesar.

I've been trying to keep the Pātaka Kai, stocked up.

Attended two funerals this week; consulted a garden professional about moving the Banksia and made some Baklava.

Life is endlessly exciting here.

grin

On a completely virus free topic, and nothing to do with Amaryllis either, our lovely pussy cat Bigsby died just before Christmas. Having had a cat since I was 8 years old, I needed another one in my life. In February we went to our local RSPCA Rescue Centre and adopted a gorgeous cat they had named Peter. He had been there for 6 months as he was so ill when they took him in that he needed 6 months worth of vet treatment. He is partially sighted and has only one eye that works a bit. He is gorgeous and so affectionate. Very happy grin. Just wanted to share my joy grin

Answer Yes please
Son video WhatsApp this morning so chatted with him and grandson for about forty minutes .
Pondering what to do with a stack of Tupperware that is atop my pantry cupboard that is never ever used .
That is tomorrow's chore

Well done BlueBelle you should work for the BBC ? We're in the Canary Islands on holiday atm and it's pure bliss, no mention of "the dreaded". So my contribution to this thread is that prior to going away, we had managed to entice loads of sparrows into our garden with regular food, drink and well established hedges (planted by previous owner). Can't wait to see how they've been doing on our return! sunshine

Just watching a documentary on Sky Arts about the 70’s band Fairport Convention.
I had forgotten how amazing they are, they are doing a UK tour the his year.
About to book tickets at £26 a throw it’s a must.

MissAdventure Sat 14-Mar-20 20:36:57

Those orchids: you can buy the seeds on eBay.
It would be interesting to try and grow some.

DiscoGran Sat 14-Mar-20 20:34:48

Narrowboatnan; yes you can grow hyacinths outdoors. A house I used to pass on dog walks had literally hundreds of them in their front garden, all purple and white and the smell was amazing.

I have spent some time tidying up my garden there is not a lot I can at the moment as everywhere is still soaking wet.

lizzypopbottle Sat 14-Mar-20 20:13:22

Here it is now, looking good.

BlueBelle search for looking after amaryllis on Google. There's loads of info there. Some even suggest it will flower again in the same season if you treat it right. My flowers died off a couple of weeks ago. Only then did the leaves begin to grow.

Callistemon Sat 14-Mar-20 17:35:57

Referring back to the OP, I've never grown an Amaryllis, but gave a bulb to a friend once and I think she kept it going.

Every time I see the word I visualise Tony Christie and Peter Kay singing 'Is this the way to Amarillo'?

Sorry, not really in the spirit of the thread blush

Does anyone know how to keep a poinsettia going for next year?

POGS Sat 14-Mar-20 17:33:56

Is that because he just ate a bumble bee for dinner., ?

Callistemon Sat 14-Mar-20 17:31:01

A blackbird is singing away in next door's garden. Lovely.

POGS Sat 14-Mar-20 17:17:53

Blue Belle

Thank you.

You are certainly keeping with the spirit of your thread.

BlueBelle Sat 14-Mar-20 17:10:40

pogs I m happy for this thread to meander where ever you want it to it was started just so we could talk about other things absolutely anything except it
I was just getting bogged down with all the constant bad news and the dozens of thread about it I wanted us to all deviate a bit and talk about the normal mundane things that keep us going
And we are

Callistemon Sat 14-Mar-20 17:06:09

A large bee just hit the window next to me.
I hope she didn't give herself a headache.

nanamac77 Sat 14-Mar-20 16:42:07

grannybuy, I totally agree, but I'm looking for something Positive to write about!!

POGS Sat 14-Mar-20 16:26:26

Blue Belle

I hope you are not offended I started a thread about the orchids but it will not detract from your thread which is much wider in scope and has been a great break away from our ills.

Thank you.

I had Amaryllis for years, when I lived in Middlesbrough. I used to leave them in the back bedroom (facing north) after the flowers finished. Just watered a little, once a week (and not at all if the soil around the bulb was damp). I potted up the new bulblets when they were large enough to handle, and even took some of these "baby Amaryllis" to a plant stall (I had more than I had room for) in aid of the local Scouts. I was told by several people who bought them that they had flowered after about 18 months.
As I have two cats now - and the pollen is poisonous to cats, I don't grow them anymore, sorry Bluebelle.
