You are more than welcome Tere and it takes time to find your way around the threads and the ones you like the most. In more normal times some of us have meetups for coffee and/or lunch which you may enjoy.

Welcome to Gransnet
(232 Posts)We just wanted to wish a warm welcome to all new members of Gransnet.
In these difficult times, whether you are self-isolating or just looking for friendly chat as a distraction from the constant bad news, having an online community available at all hours of the day and night has never been more important. Gransnet users are always ready to offer support, conversation and (virtual) company.
So please pour yourself a cuppa (or a
) and use this thread to introduce yourself.
And if you get stuck we have a page on getting started, which you can find here.
Also, if you're looking for an easy first thread to post on, look out for the regular Good Morning thread where users greet each other every morning.
Hello , just joined a couple of days ago , I'm finding my way around and enjoying reading the threads . So glad I found you , little bit about myself ? I have two grown up children , 41 and 35 my daughter has 3 young boys . My son lives with me , , I am his full time carer as he has severe Learning disabilities so we are isolating as day care centre is closed . Strange times , stay safe everyone .
WelcomeKaren so pleased that you found us lot. May I suggest you start with soop's kitchen and Good Morning- two gentle posts and you can find your way around from there. You will soon find the posts you may want to run a mile from. Enjoy.
Hello... I’m a new member and having never been on any kind of social media/chat room site before I am finding my feet a little. I came across the site as I was on Google trying to find an old recipe my mum used to cook from an ancient Be Rol cookery pamphlet. Voila... it was on this site and I was so pleased to find you all..
Debs I do not know what the word housework means and no doubt you will join that merry club!!!
Thank you Charleygirl I would love to join a meetup near me if there is one. And thank you so much for welcoming me. I’ve already warned my husband I may become obsessed with being on this website. ?
Welcome Debs and I promise you will receive a warm welcome from both those threads. You do not have to have any GC to join- I do not have any children!
When or if life returns to normal you may be interested in a meetup near you. I meet up with two different lots of GNs monthly.
Hello everyone I joined yesterday after becoming a Nanna for the first time. I bought the book The New Granny’s Survival Guide which introduced me to this website. So here I am and I so pleased to read such lovely messages of support from you all. I’m looking forward to joining your Good Morning and Soop’s kitchen threads.
Welcome, GigiJeanne and Clapton. There are some Australians who do participate but the brain is having a rest, I do not remember their names. Maybe open a new thread, introducing yourself.
Clapton take it from one who knows, once you become involved on GN, housework seems to take a very back seat!
Hello all...been meaning to join for a while but whilst self isolating I'm getting round to those jobs that just get missed...
Oops - pressed the wrong button! Meant to say am wrong generation (1959) to keep up technologically, but very knowledgeable on Covid-husbands working ‘from home’ and Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. Can win quizzes! Gigi
Would love to join you all for virtual coffee/ Aussie wine - which I can recommend as I am stuck here !!
fritherdog welcome- please read the excellent advice given by Maggiemaybe. This thread is not really for giving out advice because as she already said, it is really for welcoming new people.
Thank you , I need some advice about seeing my grandchildren- where do I go?
Hello, Aliceharper1, RBond, bhoughton723 and Lily3, and welcome to Gransnet, all of you!
This thread seems to have gone very quiet, and I've just noticed that you're all sitting here dangling. I hope I can help those of you who need it in some way.
RBond, lovely to meet another poster from New Zealand. We have at least one regular poster on here from your country, BradfordLass, who I'm sure you'll come across as you get to know the site.
Aliceharper1, bhoughton723 and Lily3, I'm afraid the people you need to reply to your posts won't see them if you post on here. It's not a thread that many people look at.
If you look up at the top of the page, to where it says Gransnet Forums, you'll be able to choose to look at all the active threads, or ones that have been posted on in the last day, or the last hour. This is where you'll see threads that might be relevant to your questions and comments.
If you click on one of them, you can add your comment at the end of the thread by typing it in the Add your message here box, and someone should pick up on it and advise you. Make sure you find the end of the thread first though - I'm sure we've all at some time made the mistake of posting something relating to the thread at the bottom of page 1, when it turns out there are another 3 pages of comments to look at!
If you don't think there is a thread relevant to what you want to discuss, you can start a thread of your own by going into Active discussions and clicking on the dropdown for Start a new discussion. You can then choose which forum, or area of interest, you want to chat in.
I hope this helps. It all sounds a bit complicated, but will be second nature after a while. I hope you're all coping well in these difficult times, and look forward to seeing your posts all over the site!
Need help about looking after my three year old grandchild , two days a week . We have been in isolation for four weeks please advise
Hi all!!!
I got devastating news that my son, his wife and 2 kids were moving back to Arizona. We are all in Pennsylvania now. I dont know how to deal with being a long distance grandparent. My 7 year old grandson is like a son to me and we are extremely close. My other grandson will be 1 next month. Any advice?
Thanks for letting me join!

hi again Maggiemaybe - I start the day upbeat and sometimes hang on to it
. I realise I joined at a turbulent time - couldn't have been bumpier really! Still finding my way round but loving how nice people are. I start off with the good morning thread - nice and gentle. Thanks for your reply and "This too will pass" - just came at the right time
.
I hope you’re still feeling upbeat, benjamina. This too will pass.
Thanks Maggiemaybe,
Your welcome message is appreciated. Its good to know there are caring people out there.
Off to my bed now - feeling a bit happier than I have all day.
Tomorrow is another day and I am going to be back to my usual "glass half full" girl
Welcome, benjamina and all other recent members. It’s good to see new names on the forum and I hope you soon feel at home. We’re all a bit thrown by the difficult times we’re going through, but I hope you find support, friendship and help on here if you need it.
Hi,
I have been reading gransnet for the past few weeks, its helped to know there are people out there who share my fears but are staying positive & helping each other in these troubled times.
I am looking forward to joining in with different things like cooking & friendship threads & lots more.
Happy I have taken the plunge and joined!
Welcome Skyblue2. The two more gentle threads are Good Morning and soop's kitchen. You will then feel you have a foot in the door because the people on these threads are really lovely.
