Your treat for today

Just that really - please share one thing that you’re planning for the day to cheer yourself up in these trying times.

Could be anything from a bar of chocolate, glass of something lovely, arranging some freshly cut flowers from your garden or baking a cake to a freshly made bed, or even painting your toenails!

Doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks (DH has just informed me I’m daft) as long as it puts a smile on your face!

So to start this off - yesterday I changed our bed and had the best night’s sleep! Today I’m going to make some banana bread as they’re really mottled in the fruit bowl - can’t tell you how many brownie points that gets in this house!

All my friends saying they are exercising, dieting, dyeing hair and using anti wrinkle cream to look younger in case there is any age selection process, then they might find themselves in younger category LOL some hope. Anyway all those things are morale booster ideas in case we get bored, but by the sounds of it most will be too busy gardening, painting and decorating, knitting and sewing and planning what to do when they escape.
Stay cool and carry on, let’s show em what we are made of.

I’ve been pottering in the garden and really enjoyed it. It’s really mild at the moment and the sun keeps breaking through, which really lifts the spirits along with seeing all the new growth popping up and the birds busy nesting.
Happy birthday, Anoia ? and well done to you Biddysue - you must be very proud of your achievement.
I like your boots, GabriellaG54. I wish I could wear heels, but they’d cripple me after a while, I’m afraid.
Thank you for starting this thread Pantglas2. It seems as if lots of us are taking pleasure from simple things. ?

Barmeyoldbat Tue 17-Mar-20 12:26:24

G54, I use spray starch on my cotton shirts and tops, works really well.
Just come in from what will be my last visit to have my eyebrows waxed and any hairs on my face that shouldn't be there. Did a bit of shopping wearing a mask and gloves. Now home and intend to make that dress i was always going to do. Dentist tomorrow and a bike ride Thursday. Keep happy and safe everyone.

I was referring to the lady who was going for a walk on the beach!

Vintagegirl Tue 17-Mar-20 12:22:34

I shall take a walk to deliver a jigsaw puzzle which apparently are in short supply. I hope to get one in exchange... maybe leave on doorstep as we are all in that vulnerable category. I miss my swims and bridge club ... have to have a purpose for a walk. I appreciate new laptop .... what would we do without wifi?

timetogo2016 Tue 17-Mar-20 12:18:29

My treat today is fresh salmon with veg, parsley sauce and wine.mmmmmmmmmmm.

Penelope33 Tue 17-Mar-20 12:15:52

I’m going to plant some seeds. Veg and salads. I’m thinking wartime....Dig for Victory. Also, I’m collecting recipes and patterns from my collection of 1930s and 40s Women’s magazines. I knew there was a reason to collect them.

SusieFlo Tue 17-Mar-20 12:13:56

Was trying to reply to the person who was going for a walk on the beach!

SusieFlo Tue 17-Mar-20 12:10:26

That sounds the best idea but we live in the midlands envy

Biddysue Tue 17-Mar-20 12:06:28

Well I managed to weigh in at my SlimmingWorld group this morning and got my 3 stone loss award ! I’m so pleased with myself ? lol
Now I’ve been informed that all groups are now closed just glad I got there today .

Northerngirl28 Tue 17-Mar-20 12:02:36

Fresh hot cross bun with coffee and a tidy up the house session. Strangely comforting. Great thread. Happy birthday Anoia!

My treat for today is an expensive one so will have to scale back sharpish after this - I'm going to take out a subscription to the Oldie to cheer us up.

Feel the urge to knit something - v good way to relieve anxiety but would need to start from scratch - squares perhaps.

Paul2706 Tue 17-Mar-20 12:01:21

Just spending precious time with grandchildren before that is taken away from us. I live opposite WCML so may watch the trains go by later while having my walk no fears of meeting anyone stay safe everyone☺️

Helenlouise3 Tue 17-Mar-20 11:58:22

I've been home from work since last Thursday with the "normal flu" and have been in pj's ever since. Today, I'm feeling more human and have showered, dressed and made a smashing fresh fruit salad.

Anne9054 Tue 17-Mar-20 11:57:46

I’ve just ordered a bouquet of stocks, lilies and iris from our local coop! Along with the rest of the order that is.

Stay safe everyone

What a boost you all are: a real tonic in these unknown times! I have a CD on at the moment (really loud as not worrying anyone inside or outside the house, even attempting a blackbottom dance to the music from that era - no-one to witness my efforts !
This is my first message on Gransnet as have tried several times in the past without success, so maybe another first with a bit of luck. Best of luck to you all, Keep it up!

Saggi Tue 17-Mar-20 11:56:23

Just eaten a family size bag of Maltesers.Result!

cmcpne Tue 17-Mar-20 11:47:31

Ordering a take away.. well it is our 47th wedding anniversary.

Shelagh6 Tue 17-Mar-20 11:46:22

I am expecting my first Great Grandchild on St Patrick’s Day- How amazing is that!

Annitona Tue 17-Mar-20 11:44:41

I sorted out clothes to give to a Charity Shop. At last put my washing machine through a descaling cycle! Normally would catch up with the gardening which is a major job due to its size, but as I am moving soon will leave it to the new occupiers. What next?

lovebeigecardigans1955 Tue 17-Mar-20 11:44:38

I'm going to make some biscuits with a tin of condensed milk I found in the cupboard. I expect they're not good for my body but they boost the pleasure centre of what I call a brain.

Noreen3 Tue 17-Mar-20 11:44:21

Having lunch soon, fish and chips cooking in the oven, feeling hungry.Having a can of Guinness,as it's St Patrick's day.No celebrations anywhere this year,I sometimes went into Nottingham, but of course it's cancelled. When my husband was alive,we always did something, even when he wasn't well.So I'll raise a glass of Guinness to him.So happy ? St Patrick's day to anyone who is Irish,or just loves everything Irish.

Worthingpatchworker Tue 17-Mar-20 11:43:33

Yesterday...two loads of laundry on the line and mowed the grass.....so many plants with little buds appearing.
Today....getting my hair done and....just received a delivery of wool to start knitting some lovely woodland animals.
At present...,cat on my lap and to robovac, we call her daisy, cleaning the floors downstairs.
Keep well everyone.

I am going to sit in the porch and do some much-needed maintenance to my front pots before adding the pretty primulas I bought at the weekend. (treat for me).
Then I shall do some home-made soup for lunch, followed by toasted tea cakes.
I shall make some phone calls to friends I know are alone, (treat for them, I hope).
I will make a nice pudding as a treat for other half.
Then, as my creative writing group has been cancelled - I will take selfish pleasure on getting on with writing my book!!!
