Good Morning Everyone,
Its grey but dry here in Brackley this morning.
Today, will do a basic shop this morning for those essential needs .
Go to the bank.
My planned mystery one nighter for next week , as others have withdrawn due to the virus , its been redone for September .
As to virus did my usual cafe stops in Bicester and Buckingham numbers down and with the later concerns whether or how many hours it will remain open .
Sainsburys in Bicester , although I went into the Argos section for an item I had ordered online and paid on arrival , the food section was nearly all shelves empty .
I saw some people from Villages near Bicester who I know ,and they have a once a week mini bus ,and was et down as choice was near zero.
Also the PM and his daily talk, is maybe causing the panic , but if you can get out do so even if its for an hour away just feel more relaxed when you return.
Mick

Thank you GrannyGravy13, Grandmafrench and NfkDumpling for your words of advice.

We don’t have flight lockdown yet in Crete and have checked in for our flight on Tuesday. Means an overnight in Athens airport as the hotels are closed. Not funny. We will pack food, change of clothes in our hand luggage and keep in quiet little corners as much as possible. Touching as little as possible.

As soon as we get to our house in the UK we will go into isolation for at least a week to make sure we have not carried anything back with us.

We know we are risking it instead of staying here but can’t sit here and watch our son struggling with our business on his own. We want to be there to help.

minus the gap in her moniker.

GabriellaG54 Sat 21-Mar-20 10:09:05

Sorry NfkDumpling ?
My remark was to Laughter lines. ?

NfkDumpling Sat 21-Mar-20 07:25:13

In times of terrorism, go to the pub to show the enemy that unbeatable British spirit!

In a pandemic, do not go to the pub, because the enemy might follow you home and kill your nan.

I meant that this is a good way of putting it - not that it was funny! confused

GabriellaG54 Fri 20-Mar-20 20:09:50

Small things amuse...
Not even remotely funny.

NfkDumpling Fri 20-Mar-20 19:14:28

Good one Laughterlines.

Laughterlines Fri 20-Mar-20 17:56:35

Reading this in a pub? Showing the virus what for?

You've misunderstood. In times of terrorism, go to the pub to show the enemy that unbeatable British spirit!

In a pandemic, do not go to the pub, because the enemy might follow you home and kill your nan.

dragonfly just caught up & discovered your chemo' is over now. Onwards & upwards now. Pleased for you x

Good afternoon all from a weather 'can't make up it's mind' day in the Gower.
Recovered from the 3 seizures I had day before yesterday. Did have a bit of a shock when I stepped out of bed this morning when the radiator cover immediately fell on me. The irony is it was provided by adaptations as a safeguard from injury. Not long back from the chemist, got there 1:20 pm. My WP and me were first in the queue; he went yesterday to collect his meds' & waited 45 minutes only to discover the prescription had not come in and earlier this morning the queue reached to the end of the carpark. There was a reduced number of tablets in his prescription, the pharmacist told him it was because all the supply delivery drivers were off. How is the chemist meant to get medicines in for patients now?
Susan56 thank you for all those gifts yesterday x. What a beautiful photo of your 2 GCs, thanks for the spirit lift.
Marydoll & dragonfly thinking of you especially flowers flowers
Gillybob Happy Anniversary to you & MrG, beautiful flowers too for your special day. It is clear that you have been through a lot and now this additional uncertainty for your family. Sending you ❤️
My thoughts are with all of you going through your own travails, more so at this peculiar time we are in.
Be kind to yourselves everyone flowers

A very belated hello Mick and all our lovely gang of GM friends.

Firstly how cruel is life Marydoll that your DD’s wedding reception has been cancelled. I do hope a small church ceremony can go ahead.

A Happy Anniversary to the 2 Gillybobs what lovely flowers.

I was talking to an elderly neighbour today and asking her if life was scarier in WW2 than now and she said it was far worse then for her and her family. She said she used to hear the German planes fly over Oxford targeting Coventry and other big cities. Then on their way back they used to drop any left over bombs. She said they were lucky as Hitler had decided to start a base in Oxford for himself so that was why it was never bombed.

Her father was a scientist and he was on Hitler’s list for assassination. She knew he had a cyanide tablet ready if they came for him. She told me food was much less than now and queuing became a part of life.

So for her hunkering down for a few months was doable. I realise others may disagree but she certainly got it into perspective for me.

NfkDumpling Fri 20-Mar-20 14:02:02

What lovely flowers Gilly and congratulations on your anniversary. It’s wonderful that you can enjoy it together.

I hope Marydoll that the wedding is a postponement and not a cancellation! Are they going to go ahead with the permitted five person ceremony and have a big do later?

Cambia - if you feel secure where you are and you’re not at all sure about flights to the UK from Athens, you’d be better staying put until you can be sure of an onward flight. Being stuck in Athens won’t be good.

Brunette10 Fri 20-Mar-20 13:37:42

gillybob at least you can remember it and it still makes you laugh. We can all do with a laugh, if you feel you can post the picture - don't be shy, we all think too much of you smile

Feelingmyage55 Fri 20-Mar-20 13:29:24

gillybob now we all want to see the photo. But I admit I don’t post photos either. Enjoy the flowers and being with DH. dragonfly. What good news.
marydoll. I am sorry for how upset you must all be. Try and hang on to “postponed” rather than “cancelled” although that is little consolation. Thank goodness for FaceTime and free phone calls. No queuing at the phone box with pennies. The crocuses are coming out in the sun so I am trying to appreciate the small things. My local shop is going to deliver some groceries. Not by messenger bike with the frame for a box at the front - remember those? Have the best afternoon you can folks.

Irenelily Fri 20-Mar-20 12:17:23

I read this post everyday although I rarely post. You are such a wonderful group of people who cope with whatever life throws at us. I honestly think that living through the war was easier - a tangible enemy, we had air raid shelters and visible hope. I hate this insidious enemy but sure we shall beat it. All through history we have battled on against whatever is thrown at us. We shall survive! Love to you all!

dragonfly46 Fri 20-Mar-20 11:44:04

Oh go on Gilly we need a laugh!

gillybob Fri 20-Mar-20 11:39:21

Would love to post it up here to give everyone a giggle but had better not .

gillybob Fri 20-Mar-20 11:38:38

My wedding day was a bit of a comedy farce Brunette . We just had the very bare essentials and the only decent photograph makes me look like a mug ( a coffee mug that is) . It was taken in the park near the lake and a large swan photobombed me from behind his neck forming the handle of the mug . I’m laughing thinking about it . grin

Brunette10 Fri 20-Mar-20 11:31:09

Happy Anniversary the gillybobs - flowers are gorgeous - just think back to your wedding day and smile smile

Doodle Fri 20-Mar-20 11:27:35

Don’t often post here although I read most days.
marydoll so sorry about your DD wedding. All the effort you have put into it and not being well at the same time it must be heartbreaking.
gillybob many congratulations on your wedding anniversary. What lovely flowers. I am so sorry about your family and work issues. I hope they will be able to get some financial help from the government (how it will work I don’t know). Take care
dragonfly pleased to hear your news. Look after yourself and keep well x
Take care all and if you are down south call in for a sheet of loo roll if you wish or a tin of tuna but I can’t provide any potatoes or beans (thank goodness I have a supply of chocolate) ?

NannyJan53 Fri 20-Mar-20 11:25:19

Happy Anniversary The Gillybobs hope you can celebrate in some small way. You have certainly been through it these last few months flowers

Megs36 Fri 20-Mar-20 11:23:02
