Did everyone miss the smile in the op?
Clearly fatgran did not expect her post to be taken in such a serious and grumpy way!
I think we've enough to worry about without this classic example of pearl-clutching!

And thank you too Marydoll smile

In Britain, it is illegal under The Coastal Protection Act 1949

I came across a young woman on one of my FB groups who collects pebbles and driftwood from beaches and makes beautiful pictures from them to sell online. I didn't challenge her about taking the stones, because I know I'd be shouted down by her many followers.

But seriously? I don't know how she gets away with it so publicly. Unless there is such a thing as a licence to collect them? I don't think so though.

Bathsheba, I didn't think you were being grumpy at all!

Bathsheba Sun 22-Mar-20 09:07:53

Thank you Bellanonna smile

Thank goodnesss you you are anonymous, Fatgran wink

Marydoll Sun 22-Mar-20 08:44:39

Why would anyone even bother waste time and energy on puling Fatgran up for taking seaweed?

I can understand the criticism of taking rocks, if everyone took rocks or pebbles, the shoreline would be eroded.
In Britain, it is illegal under The Coastal Protection Act 1949

In Tasmania, it is also illegal. Under the National Parks and Reserved Land Regulations 2009, there are penalties of up to $700 for people caught stealing items such as rocks from beaches.

So there you have it.

Is it or was it April 1 fatgran ?

Marydoll Sun 22-Mar-20 08:37:53

Thanks, Bella. I have never heard of that term, probably because I'm certainly not a GOW. wink grin

Bellanonna Sun 22-Mar-20 08:33:37

GOW is a grumpy old woman, MD! And I don’t think Bathsheba was being one!

Bellanonna Sun 22-Mar-20 08:32:18

?

boheminan Sun 22-Mar-20 08:32:11

Perhaps she'll use it as a side dish to her roast swangrin

Marydoll Sun 22-Mar-20 08:32:01

What IS a GOW award? I'm intrigued. ?

Bathsheba Sun 22-Mar-20 08:28:33

Go ahead mcem. I can nominate your post for the HTT (holier than thou) award smile

mary51 Sun 22-Mar-20 08:02:12

What's a GOW award?

Marydoll Sun 22-Mar-20 07:55:51

Worse things have happened at sea! wink Worse things are happening in the world. sad
I'm sure the Queen won't miss a bit of seaweed, but is it worth getting so het up about? ?

mcem Sun 22-Mar-20 07:51:59

And now I can nominate that last one as worthy of a GOW award!

Bathsheba Sun 22-Mar-20 07:50:24

Oh for heaven's sake hmm. What the heck does the Queen want with the seaweed in Tasmania?

mcem Sun 22-Mar-20 07:50:09

I nominatte this as one of the most interesting GN posts that I 've read in ages!

Elegran Sun 22-Mar-20 07:46:35

Does Tasmanian seaweed belong to the queen?

grannypiper Sun 22-Mar-20 07:44:55

I agree but dont take too many rocks, if everyone took half a dozen home there would be none left on the beach.

fatgran57 Sun 22-Mar-20 07:42:17

A couple of days ago I mentioned that I had been to the beach (here in Tasmania) and brought home some seaweed for the garden and a few rocks for my pots.

I was chastised for doing this by another gransnetter who informed me this was not legal and further on wrote that the seaweed belonged to the Queen.

As a direct descendant of Mannalargenna, an esteemed Tasmanian aboriginal tribal chief I feel my right to gather seaweed trumps that of the Queen!

As the aboriginal people were here for over 40,000 years before white invasion I think we would have first dibs on the seaweed!
