Yes BB seems to be listening to, reading and watching what we write or do …..

Are we being listened to/monitored? I'll probably be labelled a tin hatter for saying that but I've had weird stuff happen as well. Just today, I was looking for pilates classes on my laptop and no more than an hour later up pops an ad on my mobile for pilates classes. My mobile isn't linked to my laptop. One other example (of many) a few months ago MrCC asked me save the netting oranges are sold in - don't ask! Next thing there's a pop up on my mobile about 12 different uses for the very same netting. That was too obscure a thing to put down as being a coincidence.

A recent blood test revealed that my cholesterol was high and Ive chatted with friends about this around the kitchen table.
Since then my facebook is filled with adverts to lower it,
Aged garlic, beetroot ,,red yeast something or other, berberine??the list goes on.
I,ll stick to the oats and cut down on the fats but it,s amazing how advertising is so targeted.

Did you also google for info on high cholesterol? Your phone or PC told on you....

And how many government departments are monitoring us besides advertisers......

You ve looked something up at some point, is my bet, you may not even remember, but once you even look at a page about ‘whatever’ it will inundate you with adverts and info and it amazes me

Do you have Alexa or Siri on? That’s why you’re getting the ads. Either switch them off or don’t talk in front of them…

Years ago when we became aware of this ( thanks YouTube) we did the listening experiment
That involves you having a conversation about something that you’ve never serched for to see how long it took for an ad to appear on our devices.

When I retired 15 years ago, I started getting adverts on social media which mainly consisted of funeral planning, care homes in my area, mobility scooters etc..
As an experiment, I decided to look at upmarket and designer websites. I was then targeted with ads for luxury cruises, outlandish expensive handbags and jewellery plus some swish cars.
At the time it surprised me. Obviously, now I realise the role played by those wretched cookies every time you visit a website.

This is an informative watch for those who aren’t aware that’s it’s happening.
It’s called AI pricing algorithms. Meaning we are no all paying the same price.

Yes, all those cookies that I try to avoid installing. If the choice is accept/reject. I always click reject.

Every so often you get affable messages telling you how the cookies are there to make sure you see the things you want to see, which is rubbish because all they can work to is things you wee interested in but are not any longer because you have bought the item in question or done the research you needed on a particular topic.

You'd be amazed at what these pesky algorithms can do. Even thinking that you proabably need a new toaster will mean a toaster ad will pop up later in the day.

I bought a sweatshirt from a company I'd never heard of last year, the first time I wore it my son said to me "oh so you're the reason I'm getting bombarded with adverts from ...... |". He works from home and is in IT so is very careful regarding cookies etc and only works on the company server.

I have had some obscure, meandering thoughts and the subject matter has appeared on my phone.

I had a look at some jewellery online. Since then I have been inundated with emails and even ads on Utube about diamonds and hand crafted very expensive jewels. Definitely Big Brother!

I think the whole thing is absolutely terrifying.

If we were literally smack in the middle of the Sahara Desert, no humans apart from us on here for hundreds of miles, we had no electronic devices of any sort, nattering about our bodies and their functions, you can guarantee that 721 miles away there'll be FB ads for period products and bum lifts coming up on our FB feeds!

You only have to THINK ''I want to buy a red car'', and there are immediately adverts all over social media and emails about them. That happened to me a few days ago when I was in my own bedroom at home, completely alone, about 10 pm, and I thought ''I need to buy a new bedside table lamp''. I didn't even say it out loud, just in my mind, and I didn't even have my ''spying'' mobile in the room, but when I checked my mobile about 4 hours later, which was in my home office, there were tons of adverts for bedroom table lamps.....
