On the radio on Tuesday at 4.00pm there is a programme called ‘The Hidden History of the Mantlepiece’.

My Mantlepiece has on it

A small silver elephant
A soapstone elephant
2 small glass ornaments
An American pottery vase with 4 black horses on it.
An old American clock with a glass front with a partridge on it
A much loved family teddy in a bow-tie

What’s on yours if you have a Mantlepiece ?

No mantelpiece just window shelves on which I have some sparkly candle holders and my mother's day cards. A special candle for my grandson, Harry, who flew to heaven 3 years ago and the lego architecture Trevi Fountain that he made for me.

My Knick knacks say that I don’t dust enough!!?

nipsmum Tue 24-Mar-20 14:22:50

No mantelpiece but cabinet has lovely handcrafted wooden box my daughter brought me from Canada. A small IKEA clock and heap of knitting accoutrements that I need close at hand.

I have no nick nacks. We have no mantel piece anyway but have a vase of flowers occasionally on the dressers, and some brandy etc on a nice tray. I dislike clutter.

I keep very few mementos too. We moved house a few months ago and I allowed myself just one box for photos, baby 'stuff', special cards. Everything else is given to charity or other family members.

DH on the other keeps too much.

My aunt's and grandma's mntlepiece had a vast display of pills and medicines. I always said that I would never do that but age is making me gather a few things I have on repeat prescription. I don't put them on the mantle piece though.

Books - overspill from too full bookcases. It says I read a lot, plus cannot bear to part with books (someone else might throw them away)

No mantlepiece but my radiator shelf currently has 2 Buddha figurines,a Chinese temple nightlight holder,a Chinese dragon,2 mini "mushroom" houses and a small vase of flowers. Oh and a Love me Love my dog plaque that fell off the wall!

I have a carriage clock that my daughter bought me and my OH for our anniversary many years ago. Also 2 snowbabies, a photo of my deceased mom and dad and 2 Yankee Candles that my daughter also bought me.

My mantlepiece is currently leaning like a drunken sailor against another wall, devoid of anything (even dust) because we're painting the lounge - finally! Usually there's a small carriage clock hubby was given upon retirement, any cards received, and its where I leave my watch, specs, rings for safety if I take them off. Ornaments vary as the mood takes me wink

I don’t have a mantelpiece, but I have a long coffee table against one wall to hold the things that used to be on display in my former, much bigger house. They are all nostalgic items.

A photo of my parents and brother and I going to a wedding in 1950.

A marquetry clock bought at a craft fair in Ludlow many years ago.

Very small china cats, and a blue glass cat.

Things belonging to my grandmother and great aunt - a pink crystal and silver perfume bottle, an art nouveau silver-lidded hairpin box (no hairpins!), a mother-of-Pearl case for visiting cards, and my favourite - a plate from an Edwardian doll’s teaset, white china with lilac blossoms.

A miniature coach and horses acquired at the time of the Queen’s coronation.

3 very small glass swans, one wearing a crown.

Two little pieces of Copenhagen porcelain.

A silver-plated walnut.

Is that enough? Every one of them means something.

Rosina, Hi, I guess the style is classic Victorian.
The walls are actually “Rolling Fog”.
It’s a calm room without any TV or radio, mobile phones are not allowed in there either.
With a fire going and the clock chiming it’s a joy, we socialise, read and relax in there.

Love your cherubs Coconut they're beautiful.

I've been in my new-build for about seven years so didn't have a mantelpiece. I waited for Lidl to stock their self-assembly version which now takes pride of place. In the centre there's a pretty pink clock with rose design, a pair of white and brown cat ornaments and a blue and white teapot with Union flag sticking out of the spout and a matching vase with hand made fabric tulips.
I'm not techie enough to post a picture.

Flowery bits !

rowanflower0 Tue 24-Mar-20 11:28:50

A vase of daffodils (fading fast), and four pieces of gold/beige iridescent Gozo glass - an empty vase; 2 smaller vases; and a pot - to remind me of holidays in the sun.

kittylester Tue 24-Mar-20 11:27:59

My nick nacks say that we are stuck partway through doing the room and that we haven't decided what to put on it.

And, I have 5 children!

Rosina Tue 24-Mar-20 11:25:17

And the mirror too - this is quite alarming!

Rosina Tue 24-Mar-20 11:24:25

missfoodlove I have a white room with a fireplace and guard almost identical! Are we sisters? I have a Dartington glass vase with freesias that have lasted almot two weeks, four Mother's Day cards, and an antique clock with a soothing deep melodious chime.

Aepgirl Tue 24-Mar-20 11:16:25

An antique carriage clock that I inherited from my sister, a photo of my daughter, a ballerina made from (what's that porcelain that's like lace), and small vase from a memorable holiday in Venice.

Theoddbird Tue 24-Mar-20 11:15:01

I don't have a mantlepiece as I live on a narrow boat. This is one corner. I am at a loss as to what it says about me...hahahaha
