Wouldn’t the airlines and businesses love the free publicity of how they took advantage of people in difficult situations?Example of the hotel which sent the wrong information to an employee last week and didn’t realize it, until it was on a radio broadcast.

EMIRATES has abandoned people worldwide, closing down at short notice, they cancelled my flight from Bangkok the day I was to fly, luckily I've found a flight on Qatar but at a very expensive price, there are thousands of brits who travelled before all this kicked off and are desperate to get home

QANTAS here in Australia are on the one hand are giving back full refunds on flights
But taking with the other by selling flights interstate for people trying to get home before border lockdown at up to $4000 /2000Pounds approx per person one way ( of course)
Granted Brisbane to Perth is a 5 hour flight but last month it was about $400-500 return

Members of my family are expected to work. Some from home others in work as per normal.

The employees at the firm where my granddaughter works, all working from home, have been give £150.00, in addition to their salary, to cover any incidental expenses.

Richard Branson's had to be shamed into proper behaviour. He started by telling all his staff to take 8 weeks unpaid leave, but backed trackd a week later under an avalanche of criticism and has now announced a £250 million deal to help them.

On the plus side, when Britannia Hotels sacked all their staff and booted them out of their accommodation, with immediate effect. McDonald Hotels immediately offered them accommodation in its hotel.

grin

We'll have to be careful NfkDumpling. It wouldn't do to let it become a habit grin

Well I want to say thanks to TUI who are refunding the cost of the holiday we should have been going on to-morrow. Thanks also to Aspire Lounges for refunding our lounge voucher and to ITISON who are giving us a credit for the parking we had booked through them at the airport. Our only loss is the large excess we paid on our annual travel insurance through our bank .

Ah ha! Thought not. Or should that be ‘thought so!’ Hmmm....

Chewbacca Wed 25-Mar-20 08:56:14

Yes it is Pikachu, the very same one angry

Pikachu Wed 25-Mar-20 08:42:34

Is that the same Branson who sued our NHS?

mcem Wed 25-Mar-20 08:31:23

Let's hope that Macron has another word in BoJo's ear and forces persuades him to do the right thing.

sodapop Wed 25-Mar-20 08:29:32

I think Branson has actually put his hand in his pocket and given money back to the airline.

I believe a new law was made a few weeks ago in France to stop profiteering.

craftyone Wed 25-Mar-20 07:42:55

that virgin billionaire man, safe on his island, asking the government for a handout from us struggling taxpayers

MamaCaz Wed 25-Mar-20 07:37:20

Playing Devil's Advocate here, but we are led to believe that many airlines are already close to financial ruin, so if they have to fly empty planes out to 'rescue' people abroad, isn't it only to be expected that ticket prices will be very high, as they have to recoup all the costs associated with this unscheduled 'service'?

NfkDumpling Wed 25-Mar-20 06:56:18

Gosh, VQ I think this is the second time I’ve agreed with you!

GrannyGravy13 Wed 25-Mar-20 06:53:40

Oh and we are paying them in full.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 25-Mar-20 06:52:49

Our business is allowed to stay open, we have decided to close in order to protect our staff.

vampirequeen Wed 25-Mar-20 06:50:53

Profiteering is never right and should be legislated against if businesses don't have a moral compass.

vampirequeen Wed 25-Mar-20 06:49:44

The man who owns Wetherspoons could fund his staff from his own pocket until the government money comes in. Unlike his staff he wouldn't miss it and it's not as if he'd be losing it forever.

I bet DT is bemoaning the fact that Maccies has closed it's doors for the forseeable future.
Apparently it's the only food he likes/trusts/eats.

GabriellaG54 Tue 24-Mar-20 23:24:23

I know because I have shares.

GabriellaG54 Tue 24-Mar-20 23:23:30

If some of you owned a business which made goods or offered services which were in high demand, I bet a goodly proportion would hike prices.
If I'm wrong and absolutely none of you would dream of making a bigger profit in that manner, then I'd be the one in a million who would.

Callistemon Tue 24-Mar-20 23:20:02

I didn't know that.
