Very quiet in Tesco at 8am. I got all the food I needed. They even had a few packs of loo roll
As I posted on another thread, there was only one item I couldn't get.

The milkman brings what I need twice weekly, along with my regular online shop and veggies from the garden.

I haven't been near the shops for ages. I'd be scared to go anywhere I can't socially distance. I intend to stay well.

I regularly freeze 4 pint containers of milk and it is fine when defrosted

The online sites seem frantically busy, plus we were asked a little while ago to try and leave them for those elderly or more vulnerable folk who just couldn’t get out. If you haven’t panic bought, milk, veg, fruit etc only last so long. I hope not to go without things like that as long as we are allowed out. So yes, I shall still go shopping, but try and observe all the rules. But if you buy heaps of stuff so you don’t need to go out more often, it looks greedy.
You cannot win really.

I did a Waitrose this morning , and apart from the ques, and having now to stand on marking on the floors when at checkout .
There were a few trying to get in who was not in the category's required , so where turned away plus they are using security guards, who would normally be deployed at events such as theatres .
Plus read local Northamptonshire Police are using drones with speakers advising people to stay in

I went shopping yesterday and the shelves are filling back up slowly.
Still very short on loo roll though.

I was on holiday for two weeks then self isolating for the next two so had to go out yesterday to do a big shop.
I was pleasantly surprised. It was very quiet, everyone was keeping their distance, fresh food was in abundance and I was even able to get bleach, detergent, bathroom cleaner etc.
Only oats, lentils, rice and pasta from my list were unavailable.
I love Lidl.?

Anyone else trying to shop online at Sainsburys, where I have an account. Can place an order but payment doesn't go through. They have a whole day of delivery slots which are never taken up - come on Sainsburys, get your act together!

I too only eat twice a day, breakfast and a cooked meal between 3/4pm -nothing after 6pm.

Fried left-over Majorcan new pots from yesterday, fried Spam and a fried egg today---in olive oil.

Tea, coffee and Ribena in between.

I can't see me going to the supermarket for a long time to come, but I won't starve whatever happens.

DoraMarr If that question was for me, then yes, by the middle of next week I will need to go.

DoraMarr Wed 25-Mar-20 08:57:31

But do you need to go?

GabriellaG54 Wed 25-Mar-20 08:43:18

Waitrose give the first hour after opening (07.30-08.30) to elderly and deliveries are usually 06.30 for fruit and veg and lunchtime for dry goods so stuff should be on shelves an hour later.

GabriellaG54 Wed 25-Mar-20 08:39:40

No fights or empty shelves during oldies hours here in Godalming or the surrounding villages. We have lots of farms and small farm shops so people tend to go local as much as possible.
Good luck. Go early.

Oldwoman I did a shop at Waitrose on Tuesday, my first outing for a week and to give you an idea I picked up the last pack of 3 pork chops. There was plenty of sirloin steak and fish but little else. No jams or marmalade and little cereals. The usual loo roll and kitchen paper shelves were empty as were some cleaners.

Some items, mushrooms had rocketed in price so good luck.

Oldwoman70 Wed 25-Mar-20 08:29:35

Those of you who are shopping - are the shelves still empty? I will need to go shopping middle of next week and wonder if I will be able to get the things I need.

GabriellaG54 Wed 25-Mar-20 08:25:29

I will shop on Friday, not before. Will need only bread and milk for the week plus yogurt, fruit, veg, M&S cod fillets and fresh pasta. I have plenty of other stuff and frankly, I don't eat a lot. Just 2 meals a day. I'll be in n out in minutes.

I was going to do a small Tesco shop for fresh veg this morning but I’m going to manage with what I have, I’ll go early on Saturday when I run out of milk and be as careful as I can.

The NHS says older people are most at danger of the virus when shopping. Shop workers are exposed to the to virus all day. So why are people still shopping? I live opposite a supermarket, and I see whole families shopping, elderly couples shopping daily, groups of younger people shopping together. In Spain and other countries only one person per household is allowed to shop, and then only for essentials. We should ask ourselves, do I really need to shop today?
