A little bit of toast

Being at home most of the time, when not out for a walk or gardening does seem to be making us both hungrier than usual ( not a good thing!) and DH says ( with halo on)When I am making a cup of tea ‘no biscuit for me thanks......I’ll just have a little bit of toast’ !!
Anyone else experiencing the need for a snack??

Anyone tried crumpets with butter and then a spoonful of golden syrup on?

Oh yes - food of the gods that one ❤️

My jeans are loose so I’ve definitely lost weight despite little exercise. I seem to have completely lost my appetite. No breakfast, slice of toast at lunchtime, tea with one chocolate or a cupcake and a not particularly large dinner. Anxiety is the cause.

It’s having more time to think about what foods you fancy isn’t it? Not that you can always get those foodstuffs though.
I haven’t been able to buy any flour, so no baking done so far.
Toast is an easy and fast comfort food, hot with lots of butter pooling on top.

Is that right merlot? About the sprinkle of salt stopping the clagginess?

Yes, it works. When I was a child in Aden we kids practically lived on peanut butter sandwiches. Dad used to sprinkle a little salt in them, partly to stop it clagging up and partly to get some salt into us as we hated having to take salt tablets.

It improves the flavour as well but you only need a little.

I learned recently that we are the only nation who regard toast as a toothsome snack, to be eaten at any time. I thought everyone ate it day or night, but apparently not.

I have just eaten 2 jaffa cakes. However, my daughter and I have completed Week 5, Run 2 this morning so I felt I had earned them!! (Last week was a different story - snacked all week and then regreted it when I stood on the scales on Monday.)

Oh My goodness YES ! As soon as I've had one meal I'm thinking about the next ! I have to distract myself.Normally I'm not bothered about anything in between but I have had to seriously restrain myself as I know I'd start piling pounds on. You do feel as though you want a little pleasure and comfort though !!

Juicylucy Thu 02-Apr-20 14:21:15

Oh I can relate to this. When I’m out working I don’t hardly eat anything. Fast forward to lockdown I’m eating 3 meals a day ???

Chardy Thu 02-Apr-20 14:19:23

Oh glory, yes. I'm turning snacking into an Olympic sport, and seem to be in the intensive training period.

Regarding toast and Marmite, it's rich in Covid-fighting vitamin D

Bijou Thu 02-Apr-20 13:37:12

When I was being treated for cancer doctor said to eat every two hours. Now that I am better I cannot get out of the habit.

Aepgirl Thu 02-Apr-20 13:28:24

I made my usual sponge cake yesterday ‘in case anybody visits’, then realised that I will have to eat it all myself!

Newatthis Thu 02-Apr-20 13:06:37

Yes, I am eating more chocolate biscuits (I don't normally eat any)

Skweek1 Thu 02-Apr-20 13:03:41

DM never ever had a cuppa without a slice of cake or a couple of biscuits. Marmite on toast with a slice of cheese and a couple of lettuce leaves

H1954 Thu 02-Apr-20 12:48:44

I have to admit, it's so tempting! When the weather is fine, as it was last week, I'm out in the garden most of the day and I can deny myself the snacks. However, we have rain now and I'm stuck indoors, so I just keep occupied, knitting, ironing, mending, crafting etc; anything to stop me nibbling on biscuits.

Now then....because we are holed up with lack of the usual exercise keep fit, swimming, walking, singing, I didn’t want to eat the usual ‘3 meals daily ‘.......so..... I decided, also to make food go further, we would have two meals daily....hubbie horrified. We rise at different times but no matter, have a cup of tea with a small piece of toast. Proper breakfast at 10am, about 1pm snack, main meal about 4pm.......guess what......we both have lost weight, me 5lbs.....very happy.

Saggi Thu 02-Apr-20 12:27:37

I could do without lunch if necessary.... somebody once quipped “ lunch is for wimps” , so might give it a try and just bring evening meal forward a little... and perhaps a little later breakfast!

KathrynP Thu 02-Apr-20 12:21:53

Oops! Pressed to soon! I seem to be having cravings for things I can’t possibly get and never wanted before. Doughnuts, custard creams, Bourbon biscuits, etc. Haven’t had them for about twenty years. Still I have lost 7 lbs on my Corona diet so that’s good. I’ve been in isolation about a month because I had a chest infection with hacking cough.

KathrynP Thu 02-Apr-20 12:18:31

Why do all the TV channels seem to have cooking programmes showing yummy recipes I haven’t got a chance of making because the ingredients aren’t in my store cupboard.

SirChenjin Thu 02-Apr-20 12:06:26

I had 2 slices of toast for breakfast - one with Marmite (which I had first because it’s savoury) and one with lemon and ginger marmalade (pudding). I’ll probably top that up through the day with some dark chocolate gingers - too much working from home = a big bottom.

NannyG123 Thu 02-Apr-20 12:01:31

Reading these are making me feel hungry. Think I'll get myself a snack.

marpau Thu 02-Apr-20 11:56:03

We are in isolation I have asked DIL to collect DGS Easter eggs when she drops off shopping as they are in serious danger.

grandtanteJE65 Thu 02-Apr-20 11:53:43

Just send all those snacks this way, please. I am desperately trying to put on weight.

Coconut Thu 02-Apr-20 11:40:27

Yes am definitely feeling hungrier with all the extra exercise I’m doing and I did do half an hour on the swing-ball earlier, while my coconut cakes were cooking ??

essjay Thu 02-Apr-20 11:40:27

good job i have just had my mid morning cuppa(with 2 fingers of kit kat) otherwise i would be looking for something to snack on. I also agree with merlot, i would be snacking on the furniture

annemarg Thu 02-Apr-20 11:34:42

What is really tasty for me is banana chopped up on top of peanut butter on toast!
