I'm hoping to join quite a large group on Zoom next week and am already wondering where to plonk myself! As you mention, in front of a bookcase seems to be the default. Often with lamps, vases of fresh flowers and silver framed family photos to complete the scene.

I might follow the lead of the presenter of 'Have I Got News For You' last week... there was a nice shiny toaster on a worktop behind her. Quite a refreshing change from rows of dusty tomes!

I must admit I scan the bookcases. It’s very interesting to see what others read.
Quite a few of the reporters/ experts seem to have their computers in the hall.
I suspect it’s the most neutral room in the house.

My Tai Chi instructor is doing Zoom Tai Chi classes. It is interesting to see all their living rooms. I have my lap top in a bedroom and you cannot see anything except the old beams in the wall.

I mainly see peoples ceilings as they are using phones that keep tipping. I do love a glimpse of peoples homes, bit like when you are looking in lit up windows from a train in the evening.

Never seen in anyone’s room, what on tv ?

I agree it's fun looking at people's homes and seeing what books they read, what their decor is.

Yes Gemini I do it too. I have even tried to read the titles of the books. How sad is that! I didn't think I was that nosy, but obviously I am under these circumstances.

I’m enjoying that aspect too, Gemini. I’ve seen some truly awful wallpaper and I’m amazed at how scrappy most people’s curtains are. . It’s cheering to see all those real books, not everyone has gone Marie Kondo minimalist.

Only being human. But it does make me feel that if I have a conference call I have to tidy up and think about the background behind me. And that perhaps a cat hanging itself from the window to attract attention is not a good look!
