I burst into tears. Pull through Boris for Carrie your wee one and your family

There is a saying ‘When you have walked a mile in my moccasins you will understand’. No one, regardless of politics, would wish this illness on him, his family and on his fiancée and their unborn child. As PM he already has a heavy burden on his shoulders and in praying for his recovery, it could be said that his experience will give him a greater understanding of that which so many are experiencing - hence the meaning of the phrase I have quoted. Life is precious to us all regardless of who or what we are. Fingers crossed.

China did not go into lockdown. Chinese tourists, workers, students were still pouring into Australia and other countries long after that date.

Chestnut Tue 07-Apr-20 15:22:55

Whitewavemark2 - Only Wuhan went into lockdown and flights were stopped from there when they should have stopped flights from the whole of China. They did not contain it quickly enough.

You just need to scroll down to the comments to read it:
harrypaterson.com/2020/04/07/boris-johnson-a-life-less-honourable/#comments

I hope this clears up that particular argument.

NotSpaghetti Tue 07-Apr-20 15:20:07

If you read his reply to someone who asks specifically if Harry’s brother had no ventilation because they had none at the hospital, this is his response:

”No. He was denied a ventilator. Even before he needed one. We were told by ‘phone that that was the decision, made in advance. Along with the decision to slap a DNR on him without any discussion, much less agreement, with anyone. A cynic might wonder if that was the case because he had Downs Syndrome and was ‘economically inactive.”

Whitewavemark2 Tue 07-Apr-20 15:15:35

callistemon the world was alerted on 31 December 2019.

The virus was identified on 7 th January and it’s makeup was sequenced and given to the world on 23 rd January.

China went into lockdown as did Taiwan.

We all of us watched its progress. Our government runs tests on these sort of disasters, and as coincidence this sort of scenario was run in 2017. The government was advised of the shortcomings in equipment etc. They did nothing to rectify this matter.

2months passed, valuable time in Which we could have prepared ourselves as best we could. We didn’t.

NotSpaghetti Tue 07-Apr-20 15:13:44

Just for those in doubt, the whole piece is on his website, the link to which FarNorth posted Tue 07-Apr-20 at 10:34:07.

Because it looked as though no one was reading the whole thread I posted it again.
It is also on his Facebook page.

Hetty58 Tue 07-Apr-20 15:11:31

Chestnut, of course, our government dragged it's heels until it had to take action. It's been a case of playing catch up ever since. All of us could clearly see what was coming our way!

Callistemon Tue 07-Apr-20 15:10:50

That was January Chestnut

Manufacture and procurement generally take longer than a month.

craftyone Tue 07-Apr-20 15:08:28

urghh the moaners are out in force again. They could all do better, couldn`t they? huh, don`t make me laugh. Always swiping at easy targets and doing bugger all constructive while sitting on their sofas

I mentioned china once and my message was deleted as racist

Chestnut Tue 07-Apr-20 15:06:24

Callistemon No-one could have predicted anything this virulent, fast moving and widespread. And no other government worldwide did either.
Sorry, I predicted it back in January because it was obvious due to all the people flying out of China all over the world. How come I could see it and no-one else?

Callistemon Tue 07-Apr-20 15:02:25

Hindsight is wonderful * whitewave*, or perhaps prophecy.

No-one could have predicted anything this virulent, fast moving and widespread.
And no other government worldwide did either.

Chestnut Tue 07-Apr-20 15:01:11

Maybe he should be blaming China for his brother's death, not Boris. They let the virus escape instead of containing it and closing their borders. The whole world is suffering because of their failure, never mind just his brother.

Hetty58 Tue 07-Apr-20 15:00:27

I'm still trying to get my head around Peardrop50's comment:

'I agree with Jane10 and others that sticking with the leadership we have is the best option. They are a team of highly intelligent and competent people taking advice from the best sources.'

Really? It must be such a comfort to believe that - but how can you. Happy with Dominic Raab, this one - or has he had a personality transplant?

Chewbacca Tue 07-Apr-20 14:59:27

I acknowledge that trisher but my stance remains the same. Perhaps I should have said "unless it could be 100% proven proven that there were no ventilators or oxygen available, it's just an alarmist complaint from a grieving relative"

GrannyGravy13 Tue 07-Apr-20 14:59:12

Watford General had a temporary fault/problem with its Oxygen supply at the end of last week, patients were redirected/transferred to nereby Hospitals, standard NHS procedure.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 07-Apr-20 14:58:43

A doctor said yesterday that he’d love to be in a position and the aim is to be, where there is more equipment than we end up needing.

Callistemon Tue 07-Apr-20 14:57:26

probably not enough staff

Staff are being trained right now.

tickingbird Tue 07-Apr-20 14:57:08

Maybe stop blaming governments and look to the cause of this worldwide disaster. Too unpalatable for some and far easier to blame the Tories. Boris was leading the country from his self isolation instead of resting. He wasn’t going on jaunts to his second home. As for the author of the piece, having looked at a sample of his other ‘work’, it seems he’s used the death of his brother to have another, unwarranted swipe at the Tories. Nothing about the loss of his brother can be laid at the Prime Minister’s door.

SueDonim Tue 07-Apr-20 14:56:18

Trisher you wrote So no shortage of ventilators but no oxygen to use them and probably not enough staff to deal with patients.

Are you saying that there is no oxygen at all at that hospital? Because I’d have thought that would be headline news.

Callistemon Tue 07-Apr-20 14:55:22

What is the point of keeping thousands of ventilators on standby in case there just might be an unforeseen pandemic at some uncertain date in the future?
A false sense of security could be created, only to find some parts have perished and they are of no use after all.

Not everyone on a ventilator will survive, sadly.

trisher Tue 07-Apr-20 14:55:07

Chewbacca it isn't the number of ventilators it is the oxygen sources that are lacking.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 07-Apr-20 14:55:01

Nice to see that folk are now talking about Harry and not attacking someone for posting something with which they violently disagreed.

Much more civilised?

trisher Tue 07-Apr-20 14:53:31

Eglantine21 you have no idea if there are sufficient numbers of oxygen sources to support the number of patients needing ventilators and neither do I. I do know that chief executives seldom announce failures or problems in their trusts unless there is something really wrong that they might need to justify in the future and "there weren't enough oxygen sources" sounds like a very credible reason should there ever be an enquiry into the response. Whatever the truth of the matter there is absolutely nothing to discredit what has been said in the article.
