News tweeted by Robert Peston..poor man..hope he gets well..

tickingbird Fri 10-Apr-20 17:08:30

Apparently this odious man has been suspended pending investigation. He hasn’t denied posting his vile remarks on a public platform and he has refused to apologise. What is there to investigate?

Greymar Fri 10-Apr-20 17:15:57

This is an outrage that people feel able to say such things. They must be reported ASAP

Whitewavemark2 Fri 10-Apr-20 17:18:41

I can’t honestly remember seeing such posts.

POGS Fri 10-Apr-20 17:31:42

Greymar Whitewave.

They are the words of Steve Hedley, the assistant chief of the Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers Union that a poster had raised on this thread and to which my post of 10-Apr-20 13:14:15 was intended for. I said :-

" If your politics decides whether you hope someone lives or dies then you need to re-evaluate yourself.

There is a time for politics and there is a time to be human."

What followed was posters must have saw themselves in my firing line and it appears obviously did not bother to read other posters engaged in the thread.

Greymar Fri 10-Apr-20 17:36:59

I am confused now, who has said the other awful things?

quizqueen Fri 10-Apr-20 17:47:06

The NHS was set up in the 1940s to offer basic treatment for 40 odd million people. How can the same system cope now treating almost double that number with very expensive life extending operations and drugs and life enhancing procedures, some unnecessary (in my opinion), as well as coping with addicts, people generally living longer and the breath of mental health issues many people claim to have. It would need every penny of tax we pay for it to be perfect to suit everyone.

The German system is being praised for coping with this virus and their medical care is insurance based so, if you desire a system like that, then there is a need to move towards the same sort of thing. Giving up fags and alcohol would probably cover the monthly premium so there's no excuse that everyone couldn't afford it!...and nothing is more important than one's health. Isn't that so?

Ilovecheese Fri 10-Apr-20 17:52:33

Pogs are you confusing comments made on this forum with comments made in the rest of the World Wide Web and beyond?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 10-Apr-20 17:56:21

pogs why on Earth reiterate them for whatever reason on here. That is too bad of you. Perhaps you would like to ask that that particular post is deleted as it is so offensive, and not something we need to see.

You do appear to have an obsession about people wishing other people ill, and I really would prefer you kept such things to yourself.

POGS Fri 10-Apr-20 17:57:50

Whitewave

You asked a question, I answered it!

You go too far!

Good points quizqueen

Greymar Fri 10-Apr-20 18:01:14

Yes give up booze and fags, common people and all will be well.

Why would ask that?

I have given the courtesy of reading another posters link and subsequent comments and commented myself.

Others have obviously not been reading the thread and have made some out of order comments because they saw themselves in my firing line, irony one could say.

vegansrock Fri 10-Apr-20 18:08:12

Today’s death reports are higher than any day in Italy. So maybe those who said Italians were somehow different and it wouldn’t happen here will think again.

POGS Fri 10-Apr-20 18:08:21

Why should it be reported?

It is neither the link to the story nor my post is personal to any poster is it?

To think some have been complain about GN taking posts /threads, why/when only when it suits.

This is a story in the media.

trisher Fri 10-Apr-20 18:09:37

quizqueen can you not see irony in the fact that the penny pinching of the Tories has actually resulted in people staying in hospital longer and costing the system more than ever because the care services which would have enabled their release have been decimated?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 10-Apr-20 18:11:21

qq it is called insurance based, but in truth it isn’t much difference to the way we pay for our NHS. It is a statutory insurance, with the option to top up if you do wish Hospitals are run not for profit and the level of spend per capita is approx 11% p.a. More than the U.K.

GagaJo Fri 10-Apr-20 18:41:43

Yes, vegansrock. There’ve been huge amounts of rationalising and justifying on here, and it’s continuing.

Very few seem to think we should be in full, military enforced lockdown, even with one of the worst death rates in the world. Lots of arguing that walking on local beaches and in the countryside is necessary.

vegansrock Fri 10-Apr-20 20:14:18

Germany spends at least twice the U.K. on health care, maybe that’s something that can be taken into consideration. Funny the politicians don’t seem to address that point.

Jane10 Fri 10-Apr-20 20:54:15

Trust Boris to lead from the front and actually get Coronavirus! grin

FarNorth Fri 10-Apr-20 23:57:49

What a ridiculous comment, Jane10.

quizqueen said Giving up fags and alcohol would probably cover the monthly premium so there's no excuse
Not everyone is using fags and booze, so can't give them up.

Jane10 Sat 11-Apr-20 07:26:02

Not ridiculous. True.
However, the aim was to break up the sniping and argument on this thread.
I'll leave you to it though. You're probably enjoying it.

vegansrock Sat 11-Apr-20 07:37:49

Instead of there being 1000 deaths in the last 24 hours why did the ITV news lead with Stanley Johnson ( from his second home in the countryside). stating the obvious, that Boris should get some rest?

Greymar Sat 11-Apr-20 07:39:18

I can't abide S J. Cashing in on his so called "celebrity".

Pikachu Sat 11-Apr-20 07:45:25

Well I’m glad Boris is on the mend because I don’t wish this disease on anyone. I was listening to the mother of a London bus driver who died after being sent home from hospital and that sort of put it in perspective.

Boris IMO has much to answer for in his handling of this crisis but he was relying on Public Health England who have proved they are totally unequipped to deal with this. They are the body who ought to have stepped forward at the start with an action plan and failed to do so.

Boris, as PM, should have been able to ‘lead from the front’ by asking the right questions of them. Many of us on this forum could have come up with a list of probable shortfalls in equipment and a risk assessment of the situation.

He failed in this aspect of leadership. Catching the virus himself was indicative of how little he understood the nature of the disease...wash your hands and sing Happy Birthday twice and we can flatten the Sombrero!
