I dislike the man and his politics but I am very sorry to hear he is so ill and I do wish him a full recovery soon. A strange and worrying time for us all.
I don't think we need a government of national unity.
I wonder what you find wrong with using all the talent we have Lemongrove. This is an exceptional event in all our lives.
When I heard Tony Blair saying they needed one person leading and responsible for testing my first thought was "get him in". We know he is good at getting things done and we don't have to like what has happened in the past in order to have the best person doing the job they can do.
Or do you think it's worth the loss of life so you can stand on some imagined principle?
In all the threads about Boris Johnson's illness, I have not seen one post that wished him ill, not one.
Shutting down any criticism of a Government figure is a dangerous path to tread, that way lies dictatorship.
We have free speech in this country, one of the reasons we are so lucky to live here. As long as no one is inciting hatred or violence towards another we should not shame anyone into suppressing their opinion.
This whole thing is so scary.. I am not a huge fan of Boris either but he is doing the best he can in extraordinarily circumstances. I really hope he gets better..
Mcem. All best wishes to your granddaughter. Of course nobody wants anything awful to happen to,Boris, but I am not distressed heartbroken etc etc for him personally I am distressed for a friend whose sister just died all alone in a London hospital, for a neighbour whose wife has been told her 59 year old husband isn’t going to make it. I agree 100% with Alexa.
I agree with you ilovecheese, the thread shouldn't have been taken down but the GN verbally abusing others should have been deleted. Paddyanne was entitled to air her views without the abuse she received.
I feel sorry for everyone with this virus, including Boris. The country will run pretty much the same without him, though. Why all the weird hysteria about one individual?
IlovecheeseShutting down any criticism of a Government figure is a dangerous path to tread, that way lies dictatorship. For goodness sake, there have been countless Boris bashing threads. This is not the time or the place to criticise him. It is the time to pray for him.
He looked shocking last week in his briefings, it was obvious that he wasn't well. The news is absolutely shocking and I sincerely hope that he pulls through.
Yes this is very worrying news. I think that he is the best PM that we have seen in a long while. Get well Boris and have as long a convalescence as you need. You have a good team who are deputising in your temporary absence so you look after yourself. My best wishes to both Carrie yourself and your family.?
Callistemon - Harry from Nottingham IS from Nottingham in fact. Although originally from Alloa in Scotland he now lives in Nottingham. He is a journalist.

Because its not just one individual. Everyone knows a "Boris" : a seemingly full of life middle aged man. If this hits him it can hit anyone. Because we empathise with his pregnant partner Because the rest of the government are coming down with it too. Its not just about Borris
Maybe some of these stupid, ignorant people who ignore the lockdown will realise they are just as vulnerable to this horrible virus as the next person!! Be it on their heads that they continue spreading it, and the lockdown continues!!
I wish everyone who has the virus a speedy recovery, especially those who are in ICU - it’s an awful disease. I also wish all the staff on the frontline the very best too, they are absolutely amazing people just doing their jobs in horrendous conditions and often without the equipment they need.
This is all reminding me of my mother -a lifelong Tory voter- which is fine but observing her over the years I always thought that a man eating crocodile could be a Tory prime minster and that would be fine and if the messiah himself led the Labour Party she would still have loathed him. I myself am fairly apolitical. I repeat I wish Boris a speedy recovery so he can be there for his baby.
