My handbag is usually a mess, filled with receipts, hankies, hair clips and all the usual rubbish but I’ve just found something unusual at the bottom of it.
Half a cooked fish finger !
No idea how it got there or how long it’s been there !
Anybody else had a visit from the fish finger fairy ?

I always have a large bag and do not close the top zip correctly.

I found two of GC small size dolls (about 7inches) in there and that was last October, they are still in there and now because I cannot go into see them they remind me of the GC every time I have to go in my bag for something. What does that say about me I must return those little dollies.

It would make a great game when we grans can get together again. Empty our bags onto the table and see who has the most unusual object!

I saved a small piece of steak from a restaurant as a treat for our dog and out it in my handbag. 2 weeks later I couldn't work out what the awful smell was. I had forgotten about it. Ugh

NannyJan53 I did exactly the same but with my daughter-in-law's mobile phone. I too am always reminded to check my bag now!

Thank you so much, Gransnet contributors, for making me howl with laughter this morning! I'll be wondering about the fish finger and high heel all day now. Just wish I could add another hilarious experience to this thread.

I once found a raw sausage in my cardigan pocket. A bit of a shock when i put my hand in there.
Our freezer is in the garage. I went out to get frozen sausages for a toad in the hole. Took out what i needed but when i got back to the kitchen one was missing. I hunted high and low for that sausage! Found it a few days later!

I can pretty much guarantee that there will always be a piece of Lego in most of my handbags, along with an opened packet of those little biscuits you get with coffee/tea in most tea/coffee shops ?

I found Mr Potato Head's tongue in mine once

I always remember many years ago, my girls and I were on holiday abroad with my mum and on the way to the beach one day we passed the local shop. Outside was a display of melons and mum spotted one just so beautifully ripe so bought it there and then and popped it in her large beach bag. It wasn’t until a few days later that she ‘found’ the melon, having carried it back and forth to the beach several times! ?

My hoover got blocked up when it sucked in a chocolate Father Christmas from under the sofa! Couldn't decide whether to eat it, but as in foil - did! It was wonderful, did scrape dust off first!

They used to say you could identify a house with a toddler by the carrot jammed in the video recorder....

We had a half eaten finger of Cadbury Fudge in ours!

I can lower the tone a tad- can anyone beat a pair of knickers AND a pair of socks - how embarrassing! Don't ask blush

Verdi Wed 08-Apr-20 10:04:19

We once found a slice of toast in our VHS recorder!

When I used to dog sit my sisters dog, I used to find all sorts of things - most embarrassing was a half eaten dog chew and also a well chewed half a tennis ball that flew out of my bag in front of my director at work when I reached in to pull out my phone !
Could have been worse - I pulled out a pair of frilly knickers with my purse when shopping in M&S once - I always carried a spare pair with me after having broken knicker elastic on the way to work one morning !!

Reminds me of the time we had MiL round when the kids were little. She was very much into immaculate houses and ours was always a bit 'lived in'. I would go into quite a spin trying to spruce the place up for her visits. For some reason she decided to plump up the cushions on the sofa and lifted one up to find an entire cold fishfinger slotted down the back. Remembering it brings back the mortification even now. Also pulled out what I thought was a hanky from my handbag one day, only to find it was a spare pair of pants. Luckily the friends I was with thought it was hilarious.

I used to find all sorts of things in my handbag when the GC were little but more often than not a pair of wet pants in a nappy sack.
One thing that should have been in my handbag and was not was the house keys. We searched the house from top to bottom and eventually found them in the piano stool in the music room. How, why ? I will never know but GD was a toddler at the time and was staying with us.

My mum used to keep a half sucked sweet in her bag sticky in its original wrapper. Just in case. Why half sucked ? No idea !
