One of my GD's little school friends was disappointed that he wouldn't receive any Easter eggs this year from his grandparents or relatives because they're self isolating, or live a distance away, and his mum is a single parent and now out of work. He understood completely why this had to be the case but, as he's only 6, I felt quite sorry for him. 2 of my neighbours and I agreed that, on our next shopping trip, we'd each buy an extra egg for him. I walked down to his house, late on Thursday night and left the eggs in his garden, with a note from the Easter bunny. His mum contacted me to say how happy he had been and how grateful she was to live amongst people who thought of a little boy's Easter, amidst everything else that's going on.
If anyone wants to interpret this as virtue signalling, thats fine with me but I firmly believe that a tiny little gesture of kindness sends ripples out far and wide. A kind act is remembered far longer than a mean one.
