Signs that standards are seriously slipping.

As I always do my cleaning before visitors arrive things have started to slide already! My flat will end up looking like Miss Haverham's house by the time lockdown ends!

I cleaned another worktop thoroughly while OH made cups of coffee. He took the coffee away and I looked proudly back at the worktop I had scrubbed earlier - yes it was splattered with coffee!

It's easier to not bother.

I actually did my skirting boards (the bits you can see) yesterday in the bedroom but must admit I used the towel headed for the wash.
My tiny bathroom floor is done every day and I’ll use a used towel to dry it off.

I am clearly a bit of a slob but I prefer to think of it as economical Labour.

You could slide down the bannisters in your drawers!

Sorry to ask, but what is this ‘dusting’? ?

I'm so pleased that so many of you are not slaves to your home. It makes me feel very normal!

While showering this morning I couldn't be bothered putting shampoo on my hair. I just wet it and left it. First time I've ever done that.

And there's the rest of the world trying not to spread germs. It didn't make me laugh, it made me feel sick.

Lclaytonuk555 - that's funny. I take the Quentin Crisp attitude to dusting, it does work. Although NEVER move the ornaments.

Standards slipped?
Mine are so far advances they have slipped under the bottom of the door, and made a bid for freedom....

Well I must admit this is the funniest line of comments for a while I love it. Read them to DH and he was absolutely mortified and made me promise that I would never do these things. I got a pair of his pants from drawer and proceeded to clean windows, he was in front garden. I knocked window as a neighbour passed, dropped cleaning cloth on floor and proceeded to wave his pants in one hand and window spray in the other. I have never seen him move so fast I side. It was so funny, but he didn't find it so. As I told him if he doesn't help with the cleaning he has no right to comment.

That is disgusting. Urgh, the bacteria you are spreading from your dirty knickers onto surfaces - ecoli for one. Gross

I quite enjoy doing a bit of Spring cleaning, but am thwarted at the moment by the hand surgery I had in January. It’s my dominant hand, and despite the physiotherapy I do every day, the recovery is slow, so I can’t clean very much, or do quite a lot of day to day tasks yet. Luckily I’ve got a husband who can’t stand sitting around too much, so he’s picked up all the tasks I can’t do. We haven’t dusted with our drawers yet, but he does like old underpants, clean I hasten to add, for using as rags when he’s working on the car or garden.

Oh Ninarosa you have given me a very entertaining half hour reading your thread.
I must admit that I succumb to the odd bit of dusting with my drawers on the way to the washing machine. I feel that one should get as much use as one can from ones drawers.

Brilliant thread. You are being eco friendly not using those very eco unfriendly wet wipe! And building immunity for all those apparently terrible bugs on your knickers!

I wonder if that’s a school science project for DS - ‘how many bacterium can you grow from a pair of knickers’?

I watched a programme on tele about cleaning your house during the covid crisis. I was horrified. I came away with the impression that you would have to clean everything as soon as you'd touched it. I felt even more of a slob after that but I'm not going to change. I don't go out because I'm locked down for another 9 weeks (maybe) and there's only me here. My most exciting trips out are to the bins and sitting in the sun on my balcony. I thought all old knickers and vests were destined for dusters anyway.

I’ve always dusted (infrequently) with whatever comes to hand from the laundry basket. Our shoe cleaning bag contains several pairs of old pants- they doing get used very often either ?

Not sure I'd want to touch a surface that had someone else's used knickers wiped over it
