Daily Challenge #9 (Weds 15 April) - can you solve this?

I think it’s impossible to answer as a couple of things are not completely clear.

Reading it my understanding is that the elephants weren’t going to the river but I can’t be sure.

Also did all the elephants see the same two monkeys, or did each elephant see two different ones ?
We don’t know.

Then there’s the point about parrots not being animals and the water is muddied further.

Hello everyone I'm new on here and I hope I've found the right way to do this as it isn't obvious how to post stuff but I think the answer to the daily puzzle is 11 animals ?

I make it 25, too.

The rabbit was going to the river, the 6 elephants were presumably going in the opposite direction.

The 6 elephants, however, saw 2 monkeys each, going in the opposite direction to themselves.

Each monkey was carrying a parrot.

1 rabbit
12 monkeys
12 parrots

= 25 animals

Unless the elephants all saw the same 2 monkeys. But that is not specified.

1 rabbit
2 monkeys
2 parrots

= 5 animals

25 if parrots count as animals, 13 if not
