What a difference a day makes

Today is my 70th birthday so I’m now officially designated ‘elderly and vulnerable’. This morning I had a call from Social Services to check that I have all the care, food and meds that I need.

I suppose I should be grateful to them for being so on the ball, but I would really have liked a day or two to get used to my new status!

Coppernob first of all happy birthday! Do you live alone? Do you have health conditions? I'm asking because I'm 70 and haven't received any calls or letter about this. Are we suddenly elderly and vulnerable while yesterday we weren't? confused

Happy birthday Copperknob. flowers It's mine too today and I'm 72. Are you especially vulnerable, because I've heard nothing from Social Service...

Happy Birthday Copperknob cupcake flowers

My Mum is 90 and has not heard anything from any official body to ask about her needs. Luckily my DD lives fairly near and is getting her food and prescriptions etc. They don't know that though!

Im well over 70 and have heard nothing. Would be pleased to get one of these letters that give you priority slots for supermarket deliveries but have not had one!! On the other hand Im in good health so maybe I don't need one.

Happy birthday Copperknob and Grandmattie. I've been 70 for nine years and nobody phoned me from Social Services. I suppose it depends on where you live.

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Copperknob

Thank you for all the birthday greetings. I had a lovely day - not what I’d planned as we should have been staying with my daughter and her family who live in Northern Italy, but it was good nonetheless.

I rang my surgery to try and find out why I’d been contacted. It seems I’m classed as having an underlying health problem as I have a minor heart murmur after having rheumatic fever when I was 7. This has never caused me any problems at all and I tend to forget I have it. So the mystery is solved and I’ve discovered that being 70 is ok so far!
