Annoying adverts

Quick afternoon question, what is the most annoying advert you've ever seen?

For me it's the CompareTheMarket adverts. Can't stand those meerkats.

Who on earth did the marketing campaign for VirginMedia in their latest offering. The music is as annoying as the completely insane content. They used to have such good adverts too. Mind you, it goes in line with their service. After over 25 years with cable, we've given up and gone with fibre. It has been well worth it in savings alone.

It's the National Lottery adverts and also the People's Postcode Lottery ones that are really annoying, with a lot of screeching and jumping about like loons.

What I find annoying is that these adverts are repeated endlessly at every commercial break. There should be a law that we should only have to listen to this drivel once a day.smile

The man with a pink shirt advertising 'Vanish'. I wish he would ...

We have one running in Northern Ireland at the moment about only pee, poo, and toilet roll going in the toilet. It's done in a squeaky cartoon voice. Driving me nuts.

Ads help pay for sites like this one, but it's easy to avoid them - if you're on a pc, most take-away menu lists - the ones that come through your door - fit very neatly over the right hand side of the screen. TV ads are something else. I routinely ignore commercial TV, but sometimes there's a programme I really want to watch unpolluted, which is now possible, although I've never tried it. Otherwise, ad breaks are good for mixing G+Ts/making tea or having a pee. American culture is riddled with ads - when I was pregnant and living in California, we regularly received leaflets for funeral plans through the door!

Whatever happened to nice gentle jingles. I am fed up with people screaming at me or awful loud music going on. Is nothing private anymore? Tampax, Jenny Eclair and now the latest awful one about “feeling a bit dry down there, sex is better with lube”. FGS there are some things which should be kept in house IMO. It’s as if the advertisers thinks we cannot find out or judge for ourselves on the various personal goods they insist on bombarding us with.

The shaven head grinning 'no way' female in the fabric softener ad.

sazz1 Sun 19-Apr-20 11:57:32

The funeral advert with the old man sat on a bench, it's so fake.

Lolly69 Sun 19-Apr-20 12:05:15

I’ve with Glorybee - mute adverts but if pushed the most annoying one is Carpetland sponsoring quality entertainment- the voice of the woman (who used to do the equally annoying homes under the hammer) is irritating beyond belief

sodapop Sun 19-Apr-20 12:13:52

I saw the new Tampax one for the first time last night Quizzer I agree it was unnecessarily descriptive. However did we manage before we had all these ads to 'help' us.

The dreadful equity release one repeatedly on Sky with a dodgy salesman dashing through the rain to interview a smug couple while lingering on the amount you could borrow. Very irritating and won't go away. As a rule we always record to avoid them all or mute when we don't record. There are far too many people leaping around, gurning and making strange noises. Do advertisers really believe we actually watch them let alone be influenced to buy?

lilydily9 Sun 19-Apr-20 12:21:32

I record most tv so that I can fast forward through the adverts that can go on for 4 minutes at times. I suspect a lot of people do this. Funnily enough, when I was a lot younger and tv was new, I used to love the adverts especially the jingles. Shell and Pepsodent come to mind. How things change!

Hazeld Sun 19-Apr-20 12:34:23

The Meerkats ads drive me bananas. I hate the things, they are so revolting.

Christalbee Sun 19-Apr-20 12:46:39

Can't stand the constant stream of nonsensical
adverts on television. Just mute it and go and do something else. So annoying!!

Northernandproud Sun 19-Apr-20 12:49:09

What happened to the brilliant Guinness adverts?

Theresamb Sun 19-Apr-20 12:49:40

Please don’t attack me for this but I’m fed up with all the ‘ NHS is wonderful’ promations on almost every advert break.
I was a nurse for 45 years so I am definitely not anti NHS but surely others must feel the same.
Maybe it’s a surprise to the Tory government, but we the general population know how great the service is and we don’t need it rammed down our throat all the time.

Witzend Sun 19-Apr-20 12:49:54

Not usually TV ones, more often in print or on the internet, largely aimed at the over 60s, which depict a woman with grey or silver hair but whose face actually looks no more than about 42 and a half.

Theresamb Sun 19-Apr-20 12:51:39

That’s from the Bing children’s tv show isn’t it

ayokunmi1 Sun 19-Apr-20 13:02:18

Oh my favourite the Guinness adverts.
The tick tock ..powerful.

CraftyGranny Sun 19-Apr-20 13:07:11

That Cillit Bang advert with that bl***y annoying man Ughh

Damdee Sun 19-Apr-20 13:09:17

They are not precisely annoying but I cannot watch ads that plead for money and show how children, bears, dogs, donkeys etc are in desperate need. You can't help everyone!

As well as the little girl with the £1 coin ad already mentioned, I also love the 'It's a little bit fancy' biscuit ad with the long fingers growing - the way they speak always makes me laugh, doesn't matter how many times I see it! Can't remember the name of the biscuits though!

DiscoGran Sun 19-Apr-20 13:19:26

Damdee, its Balhsens. I found that ad really annoying initially, but just lately it is making me laugh. Strange.?

arosebyanyothername Sun 19-Apr-20 13:23:40

We watch Sky News in the morning and every other advert seems to be from companies enticing us to buy gold coins!!

The best one IMO at the moment is this NatWest one

I'm another one that mutes the sound when adverts are on. The only ones that always make me laugh are for Haribo. I find most others patronising, irritating and/or crude and over descriptive. The new Tampax one literally made me cringe when it came on whilst watching tv with my son. And why do so many ads supposedly aimed at adults have to use silly cartoony gimmicks more suited to children's programs ? I hope there are some ad makers out there reading these posts!
