Which supermarket do you prefer to shop in

Sainsbury's as it's my nearest store.

Lidl and Waitrose are my favorite supermarkets but Lidl is not delivering and since my last Waitrose delivery six weeks ago I've not been able to book a delivery slot.

I have heard that Waitrose have contacted all their customers over 70 but they've never contacted either of us.

Before the lockdown, I flitted between Sainsburys several shops from there during the week, a few things for the week-end from Marks and a Sunday shop at Waitrose, always over £10 to get a complimentary Sunday Times. I was very much a dribs and drabs shopper, now it's strictly once a week.

My choice is guided by my dislike of huge supermarkets, on out-of-town sites, with no other shops on site, and my preference for more moderately sized supermarkets in town centres where I can access lots of other shops and services at the same time.

The supermarket in the centre of all the local small towns is Waitrose, so I shop there. I buy much of my food from local specialist suppliers. They are even more accessible than Waitrose.

Mind you all of the aforementioned shopping was before the lockdown as I'm shielding now, drat. I don't "do" Tesco as I had a horrific experience in one of their stores and won't even buy from them online.

Sainsbury’s followed by Waitrose, for something special. Our nearest Sainsbury’s now is an hour away and Waitrose is near Cardiff, so one and a half hours away. We have lots of Asda, Tesco, and Morrison nearby, but I do miss Sainsbury’s. Luckily in lockdown they do deliver to my area, so I may continue with that after this surreal time is over

Am I the only person to do my weekly shop and any bits in between at the COOP?!!!

We do almost all of our shopping at local independent shops and (usually) markets. Every couple of weeks we go to the Co-op for things like loose tea, some dairy stuff, frozen beans & peas, and the odd tin or packet.
And during this difficult time, the independent shops are being really helpful with deliveries and grouping together for deliveries.
We have a fantastic workers' co-operative where we do a monthly shop: dried fruit & nuts, flour (yes, plenty!) spices, tins of fair trade tomatoes & tuna.
We have a great fruit & veg shop, who buy locally where possible.
We shop carefully so it isn't too expensive, and supports people locally and across the world through Fair Trade.
I do know it's not for everyone, but we eat well.

I have a M&S Simply Food down the road and usually buy most fresh food and groceries from there because they are good quality, and store cupboard stuff once a month from Asda or Tesco.
Since lockdown not impressed with M&S, they're too busy, and don't deliver or click and collect, so have Tesco delivery. Will definitely reappraise shopping habits after this. Not many local shops sadly.

Morrisons but I buy meat from the local butcher and fish from the fishmonger the milkman supplies eggs and butter and cream to my door with the milk

Asda for basics I find them cheapest, Sainsbury’s for fresh fruit and veg. Local farm shop for meat, M and S for treats.

Before Lockdown you asked.

Within a 10 mile radius I have Morrison, Asda, Sainsbury. Aldi and Lidl.

Amazed at how many use Waitrose. Only one in Cornwall! I used it once as it is near a park and ride. Didn't find it good value for money.

So, I use Morrisons. Love the quality of their fresh items especially fish and veg. Amazing choice of breads. Staff are so lovely. Their own brands are excellent value. My favourite is their large tub of Raspberry, cranberry and blueberry yoghurt 85p.

Pre Lockdown:
Local butchers and Costco for meat and some fish/baguettes/cheese.

Waitrose for most other food, with an occasional trip to Lidl, Sainsbury or M&S. Lidl have great deli items and DH likes their yogurts.

I have a choice of Morrisons or Sainsburys. I eat a lot of fresh chilis.
50p per pack at Morries, 1.50p same pack at Sainsburys!
Oh! and bread is baked instore at Morries and they've a brilliant,helpful fishmonger. Fresh veg. are really good too
So Morrisons is my choice, but the decider was the price of the chilis.(but the staff are v.friendly and helpful too, mustn't forget the wonderful staff

Woodmouse we've written virtually identical reasons for shopping at Morries, tho we don't live near each other.
I believe that William Morrison died within the last year or two. He'd frequently visit his stores to see how how things were going.

Lidl.
i used to go about once a week or 10 days, but now its been over 2 weeks, and i am aiming to hold out until it's 3 weeks.
i have a kind of aversion to large supermarkets, and i usually go to an inner city lidl that is just big enough to have a few weekly specials. the atmosphere suits me. and products very good. and useful for someone whose bills far exceed income.

Waitrose certainly haven't contacted me either and I'm 75.
I have had a letter from TV licensing and email from Sainsbury's re the oldies sluts slits slots but that's all.

I used to love the Budgens in Mortimer and Cambridge. Their custard tarts were the best.

Aldi is my go to supermarket, especially the brand new swanky one they've recently built near me. But I've been seduced a little bit by Lidl lately; their bakery and fresh fruit and veg is superb. If I'm looking for something that either Aldi or Lidl don't have, I'll go to Sainsburys just for that but I never go to Tesco if I can help it.

Do you have a Waitrose card or do you regularly shop online with them GabriellaG?
I got an email from them back in March (28 I think) offering priority slots for their online customers. You might consider emailing customer services to find out why you have been passed over.

I usually get most of ours at Asda, largely because it’s the closest/most convenient - in normal times I can walk there and get the bus back.
Dh is keen to do the shopping lately and is using the food hall of our big M&S, because it’s relatively quiet and there’s very little need for queueing.
Of course it’s more expensive, but seems worth it ATM.

Always preferred Sainsburys. Where I used to live we had an enormous Sainsburys and an equally enormous Tesco reasonably close. For a time, I alternated each week, but found I was buying less and less on the weeks I went to Tesco. Since then have just done a weekly run to Sainsbury.
When I moved here, the Sainsbury's was the supermarket furthest away from my new home (3 miles), but quiet roads, and large car park - no problems,. Have a v. large Tesco five minutes away and a small Tesco opposite. Do occasionally use the latter for speed for odd items.
I am still doing my weekly supermarket run to Sainsburys in 'oldies' hour - gives my car a once a week run out also, and I know the layout and prepare a careful shopping list aisle by aisle. Like to use the zappers, items straight into my shopping bags and can usually do the whole weeks shop in half an hour
With care, I can keep all the salad stuff I buy, for a the week. Being by myself I long ago discovered that frozen veg are a better option than fresh ones (that are not really fresh by end of seven days).

It depends what mood I’m in.

If I’m feeling frugal I would shop in Lidl or Aldi.

I prefer Waitrose. But it is more expensive, and I can’t see the sense of paying unnecessarily more for basics.

In actuality I mostly shop in sainsbury (on line) and when no lockdown M&S.

I like Tesco, but mostly because it's the nearest one to me.
Even so, it's five miles away. I have a big order delivered once a month with all the big/heavy stuff. (normally, not now, but I have managed to get a click-and-collect this week).
Then I shop for fresh stuff at local shops and our little Co-op.

I like Waitrose as it's smaller than other supermarkets near us. However since the lock down I've found a butchers that delivers and also offers fruit and veg - orders made on the phone [an actual human!] so I only need to make a visit - or even an online order - occasionally for other requisites. It's a bit more expensive but the quality is excellent. So there are some positives!
