Any one else fed up of journalists questions?

No Laura today, what a shame I was looking forward to the army man taking her on.

I find myself shouting at the TV when journalists have been sent to a particular location to give a report. They are unnecessary journeys!
I too don't bother to watch the questions any more. Each one used to involve 2 questions, now it can be 3 or 4!

I was wondering when the BBC are going to furlough Laura Kunsberg. She is very annoying. I find her question are aggressive and repetative.

SuzieQ178 you took the words from my mouth. The journalists are extremely irritating. I just listen to the briefing now and take my walk after the 1st question as I just ended up shouting at the telly.

On bbc news website says deaths reach a twenty year high when comparing that same week ending April 10th.And up 8,000 this year on the average yearly figure but not all extra deaths part of the Covid fatalities.So yes wonder what happened in 2000.Guessing more flu deaths that year ?Or less cancer survival as treatments not as advanced,and outcomes in some types not as favourable as now ?

The journalists from the smaller publications are asking much better questions. More depth.

On the information that the death toll is the highest for 20 years: is that when those records started or does it mean the death toll 20 years ago was nearly as high? If the latter, what happened 20 years ago which resulted in such a high toll?

I think some of you are being a bit unfair about the questions from journalists. For one thing they do give the politicians a chance to explain why some things are or are not happening, and if the explanation is reasonable and sensible then it can put minds at rest.
For instance, there was a question today about why the Govt. had not been using more U.K. firms to produce protective equipment. Part of the answer given was that some of the firms that had offered to make the equipment and wanted a Government contract, had only been set up as companies the day before. I had not thought of that, so a sensible and reasonable explanation, which would not have been given if the question had not been asked in the first place.

Also yesterday one of the journalists from a smaller organisation asked what I thought was a very interesting question, as to whether any of the scientists were modelling how we, the public, might behave when the lock down is lifted. There was no clear answer given, but an interesting question, one that could possibly be taken on board and considered as a possibility.

I too have been shouting at the telly for all their stupid questions. What a waste of everyone's time, they are so patient with their answers, unlike Trump who just resorts to name calling!

Huge headline at start of BBC news.Death toll highest for this last week in 20 years.18,500 .What ?! I did a double take. About a 3rd are linked to Covid but still waiting for some data.So really did we need such a dramatic pronouncement.Of course every death is a tragedy.In other words 2/3rd of deaths were for other reasons.I just found the way the BBC reports really maddening sometimes.Give us the accurate CV figures when you have them.Is it me ?!

It is normally the opposition's job to hold the government to account. But with parliament effectively closed, the opposition has little chance of doing its job and the press and broadcast media are having to do it instead. It's just as well they are.

I think the media are trouble stirrers. Devi you do or devil you don’t. As long as it sells that’s all they are concerned about.

We are in such a weird place, there is nothing else to report except corona news, and as a daily news item it does get very repetitive. I actually feel rather sorry for the news people, they are desperately trying to fill the space. There is almost nothing to film, interviews are always in someone's house and people rarely have anything new to say.

Yes I tend to switch off when the same so called journalists ask the same questions over and over again, never anything positive all negative. It's the same on GN the same posters post the same negative posts as if they are experts and have all the answers re Covid 19 as if lol.

They are desperate to fill air time and keep their jobs. I read the paper daily and that's enough.

Eglantine Yes, Have heard them. The question was about the relevance of the journalists' questions. In my opinion, as I said, they are relevant because the government needs to be called to account for its (lack of) actions, and we need to be kept informed about what is likely to happen in future. 'We are listening to science' is not an acceptable answer. We need to be told what science, how it has been tested, and how it will feed into policy. The fact that we were given a list of criteria last week is not enough either, as these things change on a rolling basis (perhaps rightly). We need to know if, how and why the plans have changed - every day if necessary.

Why does the BBC always get to ask the first question?

It’s ‘Gotcha’ journalism. They just want to trip people up. That’s not forensic journalism, getting to the nub of matters.

On the Scottish news last night there was a report on a Nightingale hospital in Glasgow being ready for use. It may well end up not being used as, so far, the Scottish NHS is coping.

Journalists are now asking whether the £43million it cost could have been better spent elsewhere. For goodness sake, either you prepare for a pandemic or you don’t, you can’t it both ways!

My jaw dropped the other day. I think I heard Laura Kuenssberg say something that was NOT a criticism of the government. I actually think she was admitting that they were between a rock and a hard place( my words , not hers).

Course I could be wrong, I was doing something else when her voice alerted me??

I am very tired of reporters and presenters, particularly those on television A very bossy female BBC presenter commented, when a spokesman dismissed a question: 'It's our job to hold the government to account. '
No it is not.
It is their job to present the news, and stick closely to the facts.
Much of the reporting, and so-called journalism at present, is designed to cause alarm, and should not be happening, at this time. There is enough panic evident in the small sample of the populace which Gransnet comments represent to show how dangerous it, At This Time.
And it is so easy to criticise, with no responsibility.

I think they have given very clear criteria for ending lock down.

At least twice at the briefings. Maybe more. I haven’t listened to them all.

I don't think that there are dastardly plans, but I also don't think that the government or its representatives should be allowed to get away with the disgraceful lack of preparation that has led to the deaths of so many people, and will lead to many more if they don't get their fingers out and sort out the testing and PPE that were promised ages ago.

Given their shameful record so far, I think it is important that journalists ask them to justify their actions, and to explain their plans for things like ending lockdown. Letting people know when and on what basis this might happen (as in what needs to be in place before it can be considered, as opposed to even an approximate date) is not a matter of national security or commercial sensitivity - it should be a matter of public record and debate.
