Good morning all from a sunny but chilly Glasgow.
Happy St George’s Day?

Woke up pain free this morning so, lesson learned not to over do it in the garden I will carefully assist DH assemble the new greenhouse which arrived yesterday.
The cushion covers I dyed last week didn’t quite turn out the wine colour I was hoping for as I should have used more dye but they have come out a lovely raspberry colour and look a lot better than they did anyway.

I would worry about the poor fox too Gabriella. Our resident fox, stumpy, so called as he has no tail hasn’t been here for a while now.

I don’t know what made you cry gilly but I’m sending you a big cuddle to help you through another day x
Good luck as you start such a tough job Scentia. Much admiration for you being there for those children.

Hope everyone has a good day as we plod on.

You’re plan is possibly the best for the poor little chap, EV GP phone call, painkillers and antibiotics to settle the pain and maybe clear infection. At least then he’ll be safe and comfortable. Anything further will be up to the GP to organise - you and his Mum have tried your best. Hope he feels better really soon.

Grandmafrench Thu 23-Apr-20 11:09:50

Morning everyone....and Mick, don’t give up on a walk outside if you can. You were always out and about (in the ‘good old days’) grin

Welcome Warwickshire Folkestone - see, I’m already thrown by that!

All I can say, Urmston is .........woss goin’ on? This weather !
A warm but grey day here! If this weather carries on I shall have to have a word with our Mayor’s office..hmm who’ve sent the whole town a request that everyone with a sewing machine spares a little time for the greater good. They’d like help making masks. Rolls of material are available for collection or delivery, so may give it a go. Elastic shortage has been highlighted and since I have very little, it may have to be bias binding, tape, ribbon or even old shoelaces to tie fasten. Even a friend in Florida who has started a big push for community mask making, says that she’s been giving some of her older knickers more than a second look, if the elastic trims seem ok ?. Apparently, most of her neighbours are not going to wait for any more of Emperor Trump’s posturing, they’d rather press on and make their own survival plans.

Scentia you have such a positive attitude. Well done you...it must be so hard to move from a fair bit of worry and concern at your own situation brought about by this crisis, to then offer to involve yourself in concerns and sadness around children and families. Totally work worth doing but hard sometimes, I should think. Pace yourself please and keep safe.

I’d have cried about the little ? Gabriella. I would think he’s beyond help but, like you, I’d want to try. Do you have a wildlife rescue/sanctuary place somewhere fairly local that you could contact? In normal times they would possibly be willing to send someone out to look and they have the experience of trapping and treating. Vets normally treat sick wild animals for free, but your Vet friend would be unlikely to want to risk managing a fox outside on her own - even to euthanise. It’s rotten that one has to feel a bit useless in such circumstances. ?

I’m looking forward to some Creole pumpkin ? soup for lunch, then a walk with the dogs, as it’s actually dry weather.

Keep safe and positive, folks. It maybe won’t be the same life that we’ll get back......but we can and must make it a good one. Happy St George’s Day from across The Channel ?

Could she take him to A&E EV

gillybob Thu 23-Apr-20 10:59:28

Could 111 not possibly help your DD find an emergency dentist EllanVannin ? Can’t bear to think of a child with toothache it’s just awful .

EllanVannin Thu 23-Apr-20 10:58:29

D even rang places out of our area. This is why there must be dozens of people suffering at home with all kinds of pain but either won't get it sorted because of the virus or are refused.
Why should everything come to a halt like this, it's insane ?

EllanVannin Thu 23-Apr-20 10:54:46

Gillybob my D did everything but stand on her head, honestly.
Nobody wanted to know. The child is ten and he was in so much pain. She's been giving him Calpol every few hours and tried all kinds of things, even clove oil but he doesn't like the taste of it.
I told her to phone the GP and ask for a prescription for antibiotics if all else fails.

Pantglas2 Thu 23-Apr-20 10:50:40

Welcome Folkestone to you and your grand daughter- bet you can’t wait for that first cuddle!

Where’s Marydoll this morning, hope she’s ok. She normally opens up The School with a brain teaser and we all pile in with a load of drivel! I quite like being a snotty kid on her thread as I was a bit of a goody twoshoes in real life!

Doodle Thu 23-Apr-20 10:44:46

gilly nice to see you posting again. Take care. I think of you and your family often x

gillybob Thu 23-Apr-20 10:44:12

Not being able to get an emergency dentist for a child is shocking and disgraceful EllanVannin . Surely there must be some provision ? Especially for a child .

gillybob Thu 23-Apr-20 10:42:18

Welcome to this lovely Good Morning thread Folkstone and huge congratulations on your new baby granddaughter. I bet you can’t wait for a cuddle smile

Urmstongran Thu 23-Apr-20 10:32:03

Hi Folkstone78 it’s lovely to welcome newbies to the gang!

Good Morning All x
Not the full sun that we've had on previous mornings but still sunny and bright. I'm expecting too much now !

I don't quite know what I'll get up to today though I noticed some weeds poking through the red-brick flooring at the front so I'll get my trusty gadget to sort those out. It's a thin-bladed thing that gets between the cracks and cuts the weeds.

Hoovered again yesterday to see if there was any sign of the elusive mouse, but was a bit wary of opening the door to the linen cupboard as the cat was sitting outside it. Gingerly, I opened it but no sign as I left the hoover running to scare it.
I don't want to imagine it being dead anywhere either !

Spoke to D yesterday, on the phone of course and all are well in the household. She was thrilled at having got rid of all her garden, builders and household rubbish in a skip that she'd ordered but the price of it ! £250 ! Blimey they've gone up. She wasn't bothered though as she's got a bit more garden. It's going to be a while before I see the handy-work sad

While D is furloughed she's taking advantage of all the jobs she hasn't got around to while at work so she said she's not going to waste a minute. Even setting the children homework, although one of them has toothache and she tried to get a dentist, but couldn't, neither private, NHS or the hospital----no help whatsoever. Everything's stopped !!

Thoughts to those who might be wobbling and struggling or are just cheesed-off. Stay safe and well and take advantage of the good weather. xx

Welcome Folkestone78. Enjoy GN. ?

Puzzler61 Thu 23-Apr-20 10:19:19

Ooh forgot to say Take Care All, and Clap hard tonight (or bang a saucepan) for our NHS and Carers. X

Folkestone78 Thu 23-Apr-20 10:17:49

Good morning everyone,
This is the first time I have posted, I love the ‘Good Morning’ thread , hearing what everyone is planning for the day, I hope it’s ok to join in.
My post is late this morning as woke at 5am and read for a bit then made the mistake of going back to sleep and woke at 9.00! Although there is no reason to get up early due to lockdown. Sunny day here( Warwickshire) hoping to make the most of the weather by going out for a walk after putting washing on line. Hoping ( like all of us) that the lockdown will ease soon, have a brand new first granddaughter born during lockdown that we have not been able to hold yet, although we have viewed at a distance through the kitchen window! Thank you everyone on here for your posts, it feels like joining friends , kind regards to all xx

Puzzler61 Thu 23-Apr-20 10:17:48

Good Morning to everyone.
Scentia Good Luck with your new job today!
I’ve decided to have a lazy day today and watch as much daytime TV as I want. It’s the first time in a week but I just feel like some easy watching. This morning has a section on dying your own hair with Michael Douglas (the TV hairstylist, not the actor) and in about 2 weeks I’m going to need to “home dye”. I think dust sheets around the bathroom may be nessesary.
How are others managing their hair? It seems superficial in a time of national emergency, but it really does affect how you feel about yourself to look after ourselves and be reasonably “well groomed”.

moggie Thu 23-Apr-20 10:10:58

Good morning Mick & all from sunny Nottingham.
Working from home now for the past few weeks & done my 2 days for this week.
Washing & baking today, out in the garden later.
Thinking of you Gillybob hope you have a better day today.
Good luck in your new job Scentia
Have a good day everyone

Himself is in the shower, clothes in the washer. He brought back steak from the butcher counter. OMG such a huge fat steak! Must be 4” thick! Truly enough to feed 4 people, not kidding. It was only €12 so it’s not the cost.

I will cut it into quarters now and freeze 2 pieces in the ice box in our fridge.
?

Well either that or put it on a low light now for Friday night.... did he think I could eat half a cow’s bottom?

Don’t answer that.

GabriellaG54 Thu 23-Apr-20 09:49:25

You're doing so well 12Michael despite the fact that you used to go out every day and must be missing the chats and your usual routine. I like the fact that you keep us up to date with your meals and are quite inventive with the ingredients.

It's a beautiful, sunny, blue-sky day in Godalming. My run was marred by seeing Mr ? panting and lying on his side on the verge of the river. I so wanted to stroke him and see what was wrong but another runner was coming towards me and said they had emailed the RSPA? yesterday. We stood, yards apart and Mr ? stared mournfully at us. I confess, we both wiped our eyes. I hope he gets help today. We pinpointed his position with 'what three words' and carried on running, me at least with a heavy heart.
My sons would have taken him home and nursed him.
Anyway, that has spoilt my day and I aim to harass my vet mate.
A gardener friend text me earlier to say that Waitrose have strawberry, runner bean and other plants for sale. She us kindly getting me more fresh pulled rhubarb from a guy who has too much in Lurgashall, a picture perfect village with it's own winery, near Blackdown.
I'm feeling very content with life at the moment. A wash on, good drying weather, plenty of food and good friends and family.
I hope you all have a good day, especially those who have problems and apt to ruminate on them. Difficult, I realise but there are signs that lockdown could be easing. More traffic on roads and some shops opening. Take heart and be kind to yourselves.
Stay safe ??

Greyduster Thu 23-Apr-20 09:35:00

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Late for me today. The sun is out in South Yorkshire but it’s cold. We had a walk out yesterday but it wasn’t very enjoyable - too many people about and I get very nervous. An ‘in’ day today; DH is cutting back the shrubbery that borders the pavement on the other side of our garden wall; I have to try and get through to the garden centre and order some herbs for DD; and DS and DiL tonight are Face Timing us tonight to make sure we are still upright!! Have a good safe St George’s Day, folks.

FlyingHandbag Thu 23-Apr-20 09:29:52

Good morning all!

Susan56 Thu 23-Apr-20 09:28:09

Good morning from the Shropshire borders where it looks like another bright and breezy day.
Hope your day goes well Scentia. As others have said a truly worthwhile job and I’m sure there will be a lot more vulnerable children at the moment.
Glad Dexter is improving.
Hope you get the phone calls you are waiting for gilly and that today is a better day for you.x

harrigran Thu 23-Apr-20 09:25:57

Good morning from a dry and slowly brightening NE.
Another day when I have no idea what I am going to do, thank goodness my novel is interesting.
Take care everyone.
