Can I ask what were your immediate thoughts when you saw your husband/wife or partner for the very first time?

Oh dear....he looks a lot older …..

Grandmamaoftwo Sun 26-Apr-20 23:09:21

I saw him on stage, he was in a band.
We married 4 years later, I was in no rush. 47 years and he’s still playing music - but just to me

Saetana Sun 26-Apr-20 23:05:28

He is hot - mean and moody - my other half was a real pretty boy in his younger days grin

Patsy222 Sun 26-Apr-20 22:52:17

OMG just thinking about it now I can see him in my minds eye, it was 56 years ago, I had gone for an interview at a garage to work in the office and he was stood on the stairs in his overalls eating a lemon bun for his tea break. I fell for him immediately,we were married for 54 years when he died 2 years ago. I still loved him as much then as I did all those years ago, we had four children, 12 grandchildren and I now have a great grandson, I am sobbing my heart out now, I miss him so so much and will never feel the same again.

Oh, I like his sweater (multi coloured stripes) but his chat up lines are terrible.

44 years later, we just kissed goodnight ... ?

GreenGran78 Sun 26-Apr-20 22:34:53

I thought, “Thank heavens. A lifeline!” I was in the Cavern Club, (yes, that one!) trying to avoid a boring man who tried to chat me up every time I went there. I started talking to the ‘lifeline’ in self-defence. We married three years later. I think that he mainly got married because all his drinking friends were doing so. He wasn’t really cut out to be a husband, but we survived 52 years together.

How good looking he was. Couldn't believe he was interested in me. We were engaged in 8 months, married just over 2 years later. We were nearly 30 years married before he died too early at 51.

Yearoff Sun 26-Apr-20 22:22:20

God you look like George Clooney. ??

sharon103 Sun 26-Apr-20 22:15:20

He was a blind date set up by my best friend.
I was 16 and he was 17. He had gorgeous blue eyes and a dimple in his chin. I loved him at first sight.
Divorced when I was 32. Someone else thought he was gorgeous too. sad

juneo Sun 26-Apr-20 22:10:15

Love at 1st sight! And said the same, ❤️ but later confessed he couldn't actually see me as he didn't have his glasses on !! ?

WHAT an attractive man! We met at a party he attended with his then girlfriend. Their relationship was already rocky and two weeks later he left the country for five months. When he got back, we met a few times and within weeks were an item. That was fifty years ago this year.

I was 13. I saw him at the ice stadium on a Saturday morning. I went to school on the Monday and told my best friend that I was going to get him and that she was going to come and help me. And I did!!!!! 59 years ago.

grandmac Sun 26-Apr-20 21:33:58

Wow!! And double Wow!!
We didn’t even speak the same languages but communicated somehow, married, and enjoyed 36 years of happiness. He was the kindest most honourable person I’ve ever known.

MissAdventure you've heard our stories... it's YOUR turn now! smile

TrendyNannie6 Sun 26-Apr-20 21:03:56

I’m in lust, still together 36 years later

Blinko Sun 26-Apr-20 20:58:49

He was with someone else. Then a mutual friend told me he was looking forward to seeing me at another social event. He was alone this time and we got on really well. I thought he was so easy to talk to. That was in September 1966. We've been together ever since.

SusieFlo Sun 26-Apr-20 20:58:49

If he were to take his crash helmet off I could hear him better.....

vampirequeen Sun 26-Apr-20 20:54:06

Wow! Lust at first sight! Love at first sight! He told me that day that we were going to be married.

Tedd1 Sun 26-Apr-20 20:53:18

Sorry, meant to add that 37 years on he's not boring!

blondenana Sun 26-Apr-20 20:53:08

First husband, love at first sight,he was 21 blonde, tanned, just out of the army ,been abroad for 3 years in Malta, not doing much except sunbathing,
I was 16,i saw him, a delivery driver at my dads shop,
I knew i was going to marry him, he asked me after 3 dates
Sadly it was not meant to be,and i divorced him at 23 for mental cruelty
Second husband, didnt even like him at first, but ended up going out with him, married as soon as his divorce came through, again a control freak, divorced again for cruelty
Had 3 chances to marry again, but 2 too many already so ,never again too many regrets
Nice to hear so many lovely stories though

Tedd1 Sun 26-Apr-20 20:52:29

How boring!

Graygirl Sun 26-Apr-20 20:50:56

After a very bad marriage, 10years of bad men. Did the A4 sheet of paper thing as advised by DD.
Left side all things I normally went for right side opposite trait. Rip in half burn left side , so this is how I ended on date with short, slightly over weight, worked for same company over 20years,careful with money man.
That was 20 years ago , still waters run deep

Nan0 Sun 26-Apr-20 20:48:36

Wedding bells rang in my ears as I saw him across a crowded room..I was 18..he was 21 a mass of red blond afro style hair...40 something odd years later short white hair, balding on top...still dances like a giddy goat...

Quizzer Sun 26-Apr-20 20:42:12

I thought he must be a policeman as he was the only man in the room with short hair (1970).

dragonfly46 Sun 26-Apr-20 20:40:28

Third party of the night, special late pass, first thing he said was he was drunk, second thing shall I give you a lift home. My answer was which hall of residence are you in. Answer one I had not been in. We had a competition in my hall to see how many of the halls we could get into. Let him drive me home - things were different then! He was different, exotic ( parents lived in Kenya), had a posh car and was good looking. Not looked back after 52 years.
