Here we are again...all good pals and jolly good company.

WELCOME. Enjoy the treats on offer. All food virtually calorie-free. No washing of dishes permitted. Please relax and we'll raise a glass of cheer to each other. brew cafe wine Cheers!

soop Thu 14-May-20 18:00:43

dragonfly It really is good news that you are sharing with us. Dexter is a wee star. Hug him (gently) for me.
How lovely for you to be able to virtually celebrate your granddaughter's fifth birthday. An historic moment for one so young with a world of experiences to savour. smile

Nannytopsy Ticks are a buggeration and can cause a lot of damage. Will the vet remove it? Can you cope with the extraction? When I was in my forties, a cat named Sweep, shared a tick with me. I discovered it bloated and attached to my midriff. Someone used a lighted cig to deal with it. I've since learned that that solution is a No No!

The garden is getting the better of me. I'm wondering whether the money I earn ironing for a pal (on hold for now) could be better used employing a beefy gardener - occasionally. Right now, it's supposed to go towards weekends in the heelands. A tough decision.

My love to you all.

Until we gather again - smile moon

Susan56 Thu 14-May-20 18:15:03

soop, could you maybe have a gardener come once a month to do the heavy work? Its a shame if your pleasure in your beautiful garden is being taken away by the sheer hard work of keeping it how you would like it.

I have attached a picture of little B looking for ducks with his homemade binoculars!

CherryCezzy Thu 14-May-20 18:50:13

Sounds like you have a lovely day Susan ?. It must have been a bit frustrating not to pick little B up and cover him in kisses, more so because he was obviously so happy to see you and your DH. You still had the joy of that love though and I'm happy that you did.
I can't wait for Wales to be a bit freer with the lockdown, I only hope that when it does that people (like me ?) who are shielding can see a family member (or three*) too.
That's a beautiful picture of little B too x

That does sound like a tough decision in some ways soop as I'm sure, like most of us, are hoping to be able to go on excursions and have weekends away. Don't know when that day will come though? You've been working incredibly hard on the garden and that is bound to take it's toll. You need to look after you, so I agree with Susan get a bit of extra help in, perhaps for specific jobs?

Take care Kitcheners, TOYA

Susan56 Thu 14-May-20 18:52:21

Thank you Cherry. We have had a lovely day.It was so lovely to see them.x

Grandmafrench Thu 14-May-20 19:39:22

Hello lovely Kitcheners

Missed you soop- sorry I'm late today. Pleased to see that you are maybe considering some help. Beefiness is very important in a garden, if only for the worst and most difficult jobs. You do need to take care of yourselves. Also, of course, you will need to take a break and go somewhere nice. Difficult decisions.

Have been out today and been very busy - including a little maintenance trip to the Doc. Enough said about that. Just throw together a few words and make your own drama out of it - no masks, stupidity, smoking, fidgeting, selfishness. I thought by the time I had seen our lovely Doc., I might have to be stretchered into the consulting room. She was so lovely, when I said "what IS the matter with some of your patients?" She said that she felt they were just too slow and too selfish to see how their selfishness impacted on the rest of society.

Must repeat my foray into the Pharmacy though. It was the stuff of French farces. Enter Pharmacy, filled with lovely staff all wearing masks and spotless uniforms. Use hand cleanser in doorway, take mask if you don't have one, wait in allocated spot for place at the counters. Meanwhile man arrives - presumably oblivious to the fact that his world is now filled with people whose faces he cannot see. grin He's intercepted by staff who tell him, no, he can't come in without a mask. He doesn't have one? She gives him one. He leaves, muttering! I am being served by the owner, next to me a nice lady in mask, when on my other side, a guy comes up to be served, hunts around in his pocket for his prescription. I look, he has no mask ......and he also has a big dog on a lead!!!! Clearly rules have no impact on him whatsoever. Pharmacy owner's expression is priceless. It is a French 'thing' which decrees "rules are for other people" but I think they need to change their ways if we are to stay out of lockdown.

You have no idea how impressed I am at all that you have achieved, dragonfly. Talk about determined! Your Daughter needs to give you both a medal. You've saved his sight in that eye!! I'm thrilled for Dexter. Would it be cheeky to suggest that you leave his collar on, certainly when he's alone? If it doesn't bother him and he might be tempted to just scratch or get up to mischief, it would be absolutely tragic and so very difficult for you (and him) if he damages his eye after all that has happened. If it were me, I'd think that his life must be so much better now, that I'd want to leave it on until he went home! Whatever you do, I hope you get more time to yourselves now and much less stress.

Is this the week when all the sweetest little chaps are being wheeled out for us to see? What a little darling Susan. It's not surprising you miss your GC's with tots like that to cuddle and spoil. Beautiful photograph and he looks like a real little character. Hope little Henry is gradually showing some improvement and great to hear that you've got some support (finally!).

Think you might just be being good, Cherry. Do sincerely hope so - I can see how you might be put off by some smarty trousers GP's attitude, but you honestly mustn't tough it out if you really hurt yourself. Promise? Relieved for you that the horrible indigestion has gone, purplepixie. Heartburn, reflux, hernia pain, oesophagitis - all truly awful. Take care of your tum cos when it's bad you feel bad all over.

Nannytopsy. Yuck, how I hate ticks. Used to have a problem where we lived surrounded by fields and endless long grass. Do you use one of those magic little plastic fork things to twiddle them out instantly? At one stage I used to carry one of those in my handbag - don't think it helped much to erase my aura of country bumpkin, though. grin

I'm about to eat some fresh asparagus. Really fond of that for supper. I shall leave a few glasses of wine out for you all. There's pineapple juice or San Pellegrino fizzy water for those giving up the grape. Enjoy your evening everyone, keep smiling, keep positive and keep safe. Hugs from France x

Doodle Thu 14-May-20 19:57:01

dragonfly so pleased the news of Dexter is better.
Hello all. Hope everyone is ok. Been so busy in Miss Doll’s school today I am just going to have a quiet wind down,
Take care all

I love reading your posts * Grandmafrench*

It has been a sunny but cold day with us. I've been absent for a few days, I wasn't well on Monday with shortness of breath and pains in my shoulders. To cut a long story short an ambulance was called and they took me to A&E. I was very scared I don't mind admitting, no Covid symptoms but they were concerned to check a possible heart problem.

I had excellent care, bloods taken, an ECG and a chest X-ray, all were fine thankfully. The young doctor was so thorough, she thinks it was probably muscular skeletal pain and would get better with rest. My daughter arrived to take me home at 2.30am, bless her.
As soon as I got home, I stripped off and put everything in the machine, showered and washed my hair. Such a relief to be home and to have received such good care from the young nurses and doctor - so grateful to the NHS, went out briefly tonight to give them a clap.
I have rested this week and the pain has lessened.

Such good news about Dexter dragonfly, it has been such a difficult time for you but his sight has been saved due to your actions and care.
My iPad has been playing up so I stop now in case I lose this long post ( long for me ) and wish you all a restful night. ???

MawB Fri 15-May-20 07:04:14

Who would believe Flynn is 4 today - eh, Charleygirl, Soop and others who “know” him and have followed his earliest years.
DD sent me this last night plus a “memory” of our first cuddle.
and I am looking forward to a Zoom party this afternoon. That’s going to be one very excited little boy smile

dragonfly46 Fri 15-May-20 07:12:41

Sorry to hear you had a scare Lins but pleased to hear it was not serious.

Happy Birthday Flynn. Our little one was 5 on Wednesday and so excited to be 5!

Nannytopsy Fri 15-May-20 07:21:21

Lins glad to hear your are ok - what a scare for you.
Maw today is DH’s birthday and MiL said it was always sunny on May 15th. I have know him for 46 years and there have only been a handful of days when it was dull. Flynn should have good weather for all his birthday parties!
Grandamafrench one of those thingies is on my shopping list. We successfully used a pair of tweezers this time.
TOYA.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 15-May-20 07:27:00

Wishing you a speedy recovery Lins

I think an occasional gardener for the heavy work is what you need soop then hopefully you will be able to sit and enjoy it!

dragonfly good news about Dexter.

MawB its hard not being able to cuddle our GC on their birthdays

Day 60 of lockdown, I am going to venture out to the farm shop today, if it is not overly busy I shall go and choose my own veggies.....if it is busy GrandpaGravy will go in with precise instructions!

Keep safe folks TOYA ?

Lins1066 Fri 15-May-20 09:41:44

Many thanks dragonfly,Nannyt and GrannyG. I am feeling much better tis morning. Hope Dexter is in fine fettle poor thing. I'm sure you and your husband will have an easier weekend than last.

Happy Birthday to your husband Nannytopsy and to little Flynn Maw ??
I hope that little Henry is ok Susan .
I am still in bed listening to Desert Island Disks with Simon Armitage, the Poet Laureate. It is a sunny morning and the window cleaner has been already.
DH tells me that we have some blue tits nesting in a box by one of the sheds and we have a robin who comes onto the patio looking for food every evening.
Enjoy the sunshine but stay safe everyone.

soop Fri 15-May-20 13:01:43

Happy birthday dear Flynn. Four is a very important age. I so love the first cuddle photo with dear Paw. Make the most of whatever celebrations you are able to share.

Susan "Little B" is a darling. His photo is a winner. Love the pose. Love the hat. I would most defintely have it framed.
Hoping that little Henry is a few steps closer to receiving the treatment he needs and deserves.

Grandmafrench Your visit to the pharmacy made me hoot with laughter and want to scream with frustration at the sheer bloody stupidty of certain selfish individuals.
Common sense seems to be in short supply.

Lins1066 Quite right. Remain resting and don't even think of doing anything strenuous or most likely unnecessary. Our bodies know best. Our minds, on the other hand, have a tendency to disagree. I know what I'm talking about. wink

dragonfly I echo Grandmafrench - your daughter and Dexter can enjoy a very satisfactory outcome all thanks to your concern and perseverence.

Grannygravy Given the chance, I always enjoy visiting farm shops. Especially those with a wee cafe selling home made cake. grin A simple something to look forward to.

Doodle Fri 15-May-20 13:35:32

lins sorry to hear about your trip to hospital but glad you got checked over so well and are back home now. Hope you continue to improve.
Maw no. Flynn can’t be 4 already and yet when I see picures of soop’s Mila and Teddy I cant believe how they’ve grown either. Well I hope that lovely young man has a great time. Many happy returns to him. Lovely photo too ?

Charleygirl5 Fri 15-May-20 13:38:04

Maw I almost cannot believe that Flynn is so old. That means we are also 4 years older! I remember his birth and then a babe in arms. I have loved seeing photos of him being a big man in the garden.

Susan what a lovely little fellow- he knows what he wants
to do. With luck, Henry will soon be following in his footsteps.

Dragonfly that poor Dexter-I hope he is now on the road
to recovery. He is fortunate not to lose his sight.

A question to the gardeners- is it too cold to plant out my tomato plants? I do not possess a greenhouse etc. They would be up against the house wall or a garden fence.
TOYA

soop is it possible to allow part of the garden at the rear to grow wild and forget about it and employ somebody to do the really heavy work in areas closer to the house or will the rear wilderness eventually take over the lot?

Grandmafrench Fri 15-May-20 14:21:35

Lovely Ladies of The Kitchen. How are you all?

Lins what on earth did you do? I suppose you don't remember, especially when you were clearly panicking. Well, I would have been scared to death. Poor you, I'm so sorry. You did the right thing, of course, although going to Hospital is never enjoyable - but going now? My blood pressure would have been through the roof. As you were so well looked after, you must have been glad afterwards that you took such a brave step and went off to who knows what. I think it's totally credible that you have strained or hurt yourself in some way. That could easily give you pain and breathlessness - possibly referred pain nowhere near the site of the "injury" but enough to put the frighteners on you.

I had a similar excursion to the hospital 20 years or more ago, in the middle of my first walk out after being indoors for 3 weeks with very bad Flu'. Not wanting to make any of your scary story about me - I just wanted to say that at that time, after all the tests that you had and being wired up for heart investigations, I was told that the flu' virus had made me sufficiently weak to interfere with my heart rhythm and breathing. I needed to rest and recuperate even longer before strolls along the promenade in the sunshine, he said! So.......there was no reason at all for you not to think that the Covid Curse had found you.

I'm really happy that you're o.k. Fright over, but please take it easy and perhaps try to think what you did, maybe 48 hours before your pain and hospital visit, that might have caused you some muscular or skeletal problem. That way, you won't do it again - maybe grin

charleygirl and Doodle you did make me laugh in Marys classroom yesterday. Party? Well, I'd worry about having the very young you lot at any party - such a handful. Hope you thoroughly enjoyed yourselves. I see that Mary confirmed that she had the best birthday, thanks to you.

A very Happy Birthday MrTopsy and also to Maw's little Flynn. Crikey, that table top looked like Hamleys at Christmas! Lovely name - I have a Finn, but a lot older !!!

And Nanny if you should find in all this that there suddenly is a world shortage of Tick remover forks.....do PM me, I can get one and send it to you. My Vet's is a very safe place to go. We must rid the world of ticks !

I just love a farm shop, GGravy - they don't have them here and if they did....they most certainly wouldn't have tea and cake on sale. How miserable is that!

Pleased to say that our pool has been scrubbed and filled and is now warming up for the big splash and the very hot weather.

I'm now away outside to turn on the sprinklers. Have a lovely rest of the day, all and keep safe.
(Banned) hugs from French France and especially for soopx

Lins1066 Fri 15-May-20 14:41:58

Just been for a gentle stroll in the garden and picked the last of the camellias. These two were behind some greenery by a wall. Everything has grown so much in just a few days. The honeysuckle is going well and the two hibiscus are full of leaves. It is warm enough today to sit in the garden to have some lunch, simple pleasures.
Grandmafrench your pool is so inviting, looks wonderful.
Charleygirl we have some Tumbling Tom plants in baskets almond a wall, they are fine and have flowers out.

CherryCezzy Fri 15-May-20 14:55:28

Just popped I quickly to say Lin, take care of yourself dear young lady. It must have been a real scare to go to A&E, glad it wasn't anything too serious in the end and you are feeling a lot better. Chillax, as my nephew1 would say ?

Hope to catch up with you all later ?

Charleygirl5 Fri 15-May-20 15:48:25

Lins thanks for that- I do not have a clue.

Susan56 Fri 15-May-20 16:38:05

Lins, glad you are home and had such good care.Hope you are taking it easy and feel better soon.

Happy birthday to Flynn???

Charley,I asked my husband about the tomato plants and he recommends not planting them out for another couple of weeks.

GrandmaFrench,I have serious pool envy?

Thank you all for your continued well wishes for Henry.Things are pretty much the same.Hopefully it won’t be too much longer before he can have his tests as my daughter is getting quite down some days.We are all supporting her as much as we can but just wish we could offer more practical help.

Henry has now mastered crawling and is apparently very fast.
Managed to crawl to their open fire(not been used for a couple of months I hasten to add)and remove the grate cover. He was very pleased with himself!

Grannygravy hope you enjoyed your visit to the farm shop.I’m with Soop, always enjoy the ones with a cafe the best!

Right,am off to make some pies now that I should have made this morning.

TOYA

soop Fri 15-May-20 17:26:11

Grandmafrench I would happily loll beside your pool with a cocktail or two. It looks marvellous.

Charleyg Yet more heavy gardening accomplished. There are swathes of our garden that are "wild" and sometimes wonderous. I simply tidy those areas and leave nettles and good stuff that insects appreciate. I'm clearing the rockery of what corms I can dig out. Hundreds! (no joke). Then I sieve the soil, replenish the areas that have been de-nuded, and sprinkle with spades full of gravel topped off with rocks.

Susan Little Henry moving full throttle on his hands and knees will be a sight to behold. Something that you can enjoy in person when the time is right.

CherryC 'Chillax'. I like that expression. Must use it sometime. wink

Lins Thank you for sharing the stunning photo of the camellia - a shrub that I've not been able to grow successfully. Aren't the flowers perfect in every way.

I must wash. I must change into something really comfortable. My jeans are so grubby they could walk unaided. If we have rain tomorrow, I intend doing a scruffy clobber wash.

My thoughts are with you all. Here is a photo that I took last night. The light is magical.

Until we gather in the morning. smile moon

Charleygirl5 Fri 15-May-20 18:30:31

Thanks Susan that is helpful. I had a feeling it may be too early. All I grow are weeds.

cornergran Fri 15-May-20 20:56:52

Can I pitch in charley? Harden them off by putting them out in the day and bringing them in at night for a few days, once the weather gets warmer next week then p,and then out. They will be survive. . You could always cover them for a night or two if needed. I’ve got lettuce growing happily as well as runner beans, both dislike frost and cold. If you’re worried put half out and keep the others inside for a couple of weeks. You’ll benefit from a succession of tomatoes with luck and if not won’t lose them all.

CherryCezzy Fri 15-May-20 21:11:53

I know it must have been hard not to be there but I hope Flynn had a lovely birthday Maw, I think he might have got lost amongst all those presents but easily found by sounds of delight ?. Thanks for sharing the picture of Paw having his first cuddle with Flynn with those of us newer Kitcheners ?. We all miss the cuddles atm but always remember that first one ?

Grandmafrench, I could just plunge into that pool right now. Like Susan I have serious pool envy. Whenever the weather is just right enjoy it ?

Despite his allergy issues Susan it sounds like little Henry is developing "on track". It makes me so happy to know that and it seems he's training for the crawling race in the Olympics ?. He seems to be a hardy little chap and I'm sure with the new GP on board and hopefully not long to wait now for the tests things will improve for him and consequently your daughter; for all of you.

I woke up this morning, took a cuppa back to bed, took some painkillers and fell back to sleep until 10:45am [blush[ but now have virtually no pain at all ?.

Our beautiful unexpected gift from my three great nephews has taken pride of place in the garden. They sent (well, my nephew1 and neice2 really, but the boys' pocket money) us a gorgeous fragrant white Azalea (swamp honeysuckle). My WP was (still is) over the moon with it. It is a stunning plant and all the more special as it was chosen by the boys ? ?
If I wasn't before (I was) nowI'm seriously missing them ?. They'll be smothered (in hugs and kisses) we I do eventually see them ?

TOYA ?

Happy birthday to your DH Nannytopsy
