Good morning everyone! You will have been to your appointment and come home by the time you read this Soop. I hope you are feeling well.
Sunny here at the moment but clouds are blowing in from the West. I am hoping to plant my peas and beans today and perhaps transplant the spinach.
I am experimenting with my hair. My fringe is long enough to tuck behind my ears now! Shall I leave it long? For the time being I shall have to - I have been told off by a hairdresser before for cutting my own fringe!
Keep well everyone!
Hello you lovely lot, I am amazed at all the baking going on and those scones look amazing Galen. I am a bit worried about the photo and the additional curves of the gran getting out of the car - who was that?!?!?
We must be very careful, I have already put on a pound and yet our life has not changed that much. We would eat out more so perhaps our home portion sizes are too big?
We have so enjoyed all the photos, lovely babies and soops sunsets have been amazing. What lovely weather we have been having, such a blessing at this time as sunshine makes everything so beautiful. So grateful to have a garden to sit out in.
As our gardening friend was so unwell last year our garden took quite a hit but we have managed to get some extra help this year and we are starting to see our lovely garden emerging again. Earlier this year I ordered two pallets of composted horse manure, some of which has already been put round all the fruit trees and bushes and the remainder will hopefully be applied to the flower beds within the next few days. Such a pleasure to see and the frustrations of Himself are lessening every time another section is finished. The apple and pear blossom has taken over from the blossom on the stone fruit trees and it has been sheer joy to open the curtains in the morning and see all the flowers - how blessed are we!!
We have now been asked who we want to quote for the wet room Himself needs as thankfully he has now arrived at the top of the waiting list. I am so looking forward to releasing myself from those tenterhooks which I find myself on currently every time he is in the bathroom. It has been a long wait but I am not sure when it will actually happen given the current situation. I am trying not to think too deeply about it as we will need to empty out the bedroom and move into another room and my energy is zilch. God knows I am relying on help arriving at the right time!!!
Sending every good wish for health and blessings to all who read this. I am not able to reply to everyone directly but hopefully you will forgive me as I am indeed TOYA
Home sweet home. Nowhere quite like it. The hospital visit took just over an hour. Emma, the nurse, was lovely and made me very comfortable. I was the only patient having infusions and I was placed in a quiet room in A&E for the procedure. A teeny bit sore right now but enjoying some treats and looking forward to a quiet afternoon with a Val McDermid thriller.
I enjoyed your interesting post Synonymous. I agree that gardens can be a source of contentment. However, I would be more than happy with a terrace and potted plants and a lounger. Our plot is taking it's toll on both of us.
The wet room will be a marvellous addition to your home once it has been installed. Such a safe and sensible way for your dear husband to enjoy his ablutions.
Nannytopsy Experiment with your hair to your heart's content. No harm done. Mine is extra curly right now. I've stopped worriting about what it looks like ... it's clean, that's what matters.
Galen Yum!
Smileless You are as sane as the rest of us lot. Make of that statement what you will.
Very pleased to hear that you had success with the curtains. Well done.
callgirl1 In the "olden days" one simply opened the widow and tipped the contents of the chamber pot into the street. Classy!
Purplepixie I approve of your choice of wine. Well rounded and fruity...I may need to have another glass to be sure...
anno I can sense your pleasure when you received your surprise parcel. A lovely gesture.
Grandmafrench I meant to say thank you for messaging CherryC. It will be a happy day when she returns to the fold.
Having been out of the house all morning, I'm going to flick a yellow duster hither and thither and load the washing machine. The sun is shining after a grey start to the day. I have no inclination to do gardening. It has had more than enough attention of late.
So far today I have been shopping to Sainsburys ...amazingly quick and easy; enjoyed a coffee at home to read the papers; cut out 2 sets of NHS Scrubs to sew and unfortunately pulled my back so sewing off today!! Made a pork and apple casserole ...its cooked in cider and is always a lovely meal for my husband ...I don't eat meat so always feel quite noble when I cook some for him! He usually does it but has been labouring in the garden so decided I would get stuck in, much to his delight. Made a Victoria Sandwich and put too much baking powder in (no idea how I managed that)...so it bubbled all over the oven!! Think it tastes ok judging by the crumbs but it must be the most dishevelled Victoria sandwich I have ever made in my life!!
Now I am having a cup of tea!!

Dishevelled Victoria Sandwich.....love it. Only on this Forum!
Bet it tasted delish, whatever, Madgran. I love a pork and apple casserole, bet Mr Mad was really thrilled. Hope your back recovers soon.
Soop I got all pleased when you said you were back safely and looking forward to some treats and a sit down with a good book because you felt a bit sore. Mmmmm ! Then you go and spoil it all by saying something stupid (see the song in that line?) by mentioning washing machines and yellow dusters. I think you need proper counselling to rid yourself of this up-and-at-'em phase you are in. I'm no Doctor (and that's my impersonation of The Donald!!!) but I reckon you need to rest and recuperate for a couple of days to let your poor self get over all the medical embuggerances of this week. Do it, please? I'm trying not to worry about Cherry but you can't help it, can you?
I have just found, tucked away in the most ridiculous place indoors, an unopened packet of Night Scented stock, so I shall be planting those little seeds pdq. I'm so pleased.
Lovely that you get so much pleasure out of the blossom, Synonymous. May your release from stress come very soon with the installation of a wet room. Bathrooms of any kind can be quite a challenge, so I'm sure you can't wait to have something safe and suitable installed for your dear man.
Haven't checked back to understand your remark to callgirl and the chamber pot, but I reckon it will have something to do with morning tea in huge cups.? It always makes me laugh - the window chucking thing : you'll probably know that with streets being so narrow for walking and an open "drain" each side in cities back in times of yore, people did of course open their windows to rid themselves of chamberpot contents. Nice! This would have caused no small amount of excitement/shock to those walking below. No wonder everyone who could afford to used a carriage. But, I think most were decent enough to shout "gardyloo" before the chucking.
This was taken from the French "garde de l'eau", meaning watch out for the water and is where we get our use of the word "loo" from. You see the trivia that I hold onto.....I wonder if it will ever come in handy?
Just remembered a story re. the above. Years ago when we lived in Sussex, I walked out into the lane where we lived to avoid a big British Telecom truck which was parked nearby with about 4 workmen doing things to a big junction box in the road. As I almost drew level, another workman opened the door of the vehicle and came out carrying a huge plastic bowl. Judging by their laughter, he had been using the container for an urgent call of nature. They stopped laughing when they saw me. He carried on speaking to them and had his back towards me as he hurled the contents into the hedge with a jolly shout of "More tea, Vicar?" Then he saw me. I kept a straight face. I was quite a way down the road before they all fell about laughing. Definitely a "man thing".
Keep safe everyone and have the best afternoon whatever you are up to.
soop I too would be very happy with a few pots and a balcony or a terrace but 'you know who' would be very unhappy. I end up as the organiser and planner and thought I had got it sorted when we moved here where there was a smaller garden - until the double hedges and enormous trees were taken out and we realised how huge it was. It is taking shape nicely now and thankfully we have help. I could not do what you and McSporran are doing and do wonder if you should be doing it either! But I will not say another word atm.
I made soup today with the last of the tomatoes we froze last year with the spinach which came in the order from the farm shop (and which I would not have bought if I had seen it first!) I said to Himself that it looks like "army soup" but he thinks it looks more like "brown windsor" but it tastes alright which is important and the main thing is that nothing is wasted.
My children would definitely have balked at eating it!
I just looked up what Brown Windsor Soup is and Wikipaedia ended up saying "it was usually associated with a low-quality brown soup of uncertain ingredients". Now I am trying to decide if I have been insulted!
Grandmafrench
Great news, very briefly. Cherry has just contacted me. She has been helping someone in trouble (I think for a while) but at the weekend this person had some sort of crisis and Cherry spent time on endless phone calls and texts trying to liaise with various organisations and resolve some of the chaos. Cherry then had a seizure and her Partner had to give her rescue medication. That worked, but then she had another seizure and was then taken to hospital and put on a drip. Out of hospital this morning, fortunately, but she now must rest for 24 hours. She thinks things will now improve but wanted you all to know that she really appreciated the messages and the concern that has been shown by "all these lovely people".
A horrible time for her, but a huge relief to hear from her I think you'll agree. Get strong again soon Cherry
Synonymous well, not insulted exactly. It would seem that Mr S is a little more forthright? Hilarious Happenings of Lockdown, Chapter 27, I think.
Hi everyone, just to say I have heard from Cherry. She had a second serious seizure and was admitted to hospital.
She is home now but on strict rest and recuperation.
She hopes to be back posting soon but sends her thanks and appreciation for all the well wishes.
Grandmafrench,crossed posts.My slow typing!
I agree Grandmafrench, very relieved to hear from Cherry.x
Good to hear that you're back home Soop.
Sending love and hugs to Cherry.
Running late today, can't stop. I've dropped off chocolate brownies and more wine for later. Love to all. Xx
Good afternoon ladies. Where does the time go, I can't believe it's nearly 5.00 pm and I've only just made it into the kitchen. I don't know how it is for you, but I find the days go relatively quickly but the evenings tend to drag.
So pleased your appointment went well soop and thank you for saying I'm as sane as you lot. I have been reassured that I have nothing to worry about.
Don't worry about bringing a dishevelled any type of cake into the kitchen Madgran; we'll eat it. Hope your back is feeling better, you've joined a growing list of accident prone kitcheners
.
Just the name 'Night Scented stock' sounds lovely Grandmafrench. I've no idea what they look like so I look forward to seeing one of your lovely photo's when they're ready.
Sending you love and hugs Cherry and hope you'll soon be able to come back to the kitchen. Thanks for letting us know Grandmafrench and Susan.
How's gorgeous Henry, who looks good enough to eat Susan? I hope he continues to make good progress.
The chocolate brownies look delicious Purplelixie; that's this evening's desert taken care of
.
Stay safe everyone TOYA.
Susan and Grandmafrench, thank you for the news of CherryC, so good to know she'll be back in the kitchen soon. If you're reading this Cherry, sending love and hugs xxx???
Dear soop, so glad you're home, safe and sound xxxxx
Smileless,it has been an upsetting day with Henry. Our daughter had a 45 minute appointment with a dr this morning and was really positive after it.The dr said she felt Henry needed immediate tests as he is surviving on very little. After the dr had spoken to ‘the team’ she called back to say it was too dangerous for Henry to have the tests,to stop the new medicine as he is too young and basically deal with the dietician who has disappeared off the face of the earth. Our daughter is so upset and we are too as not much we can do to support her apart from phone calls and trying to encourage them. The new medication was really helping so it’s such a worry to think he will have to manage without it.We don’t know which way to turn at the moment.
Sorry to put a downer on the thread.
Soop, glad you are safely back home.
I will catch up on everyone’s posts tomorrow.
TOYA
Thank you Carillion Purplepixie and all of you for your kind words.
Susan & Grandmafrench Having news of Cherry is a huge relief. Bless her cotton socks. She one five star trooper. We all send the gentlest of hugs and good wishes for a swift recouperation.
Synonymous Your soup sounds nourishing and hearty. The ideal supper dish together with warm crusty bread and lashings of butter.
Grandmafrench I shall share a story with you lot...it happened in a cupboard in the shop in which I worked some twenty years ago. The shop (an old premises) had no lavvy. I had to widdle. I locked the shop door, went into the dark, cramped cupboard, and weed in an old flower vase. As I came out of the cupboard, a lady was trying the door. I opened it (as I cradelled the vase of wee). I said something like, "I've been changing the flowers for the window display..." and emptied the vase into a drain.
Madgran No matter how dishevelled your Victoria sponge is...I bags a large slice before this lot totally demolish it.
I haven't done much at all. My middle son phoned. We spent 45 mins guffawing. So much more sensible than dusting. I trust that you all agree.
Log off time. Until tomorrow, I'm continuing to think of you all

Susan Our posts have coincided. I'm so sorry that your daughter is feeling very down-hearted. We've all been rooting for little Henry and trusting that he was on the way to being helped through the awful business with his reaction to his diet. Please know that we are here for you. If talking through your concerns helps, even in a small way, we want you to feel free to tell us how you are feeling.
So pleased that cherry is okay and thatsoop had a successful hospital visit.
I miss Izabella.
I have had a traumatic day and expect to be up in the night with granddoggy so will sign off now.
Thank you Soop.x
dragonfly hope tonight goes better than you are expecting and that Dexter is soon on the mend.x
Galen, how beautiful. The colours are so vibrant. She is very talented.
Susan, so sorry to hear today's news. Thinking of all of you and especially Henry.xxxx
