IF ...... you could have a day out next weekend where would you go?
I watched a TV prog about Portmeirion last night, and it’s top of my list for a visit when we’re released from Lockdown. It was made during beautiful weather and it looked idyllic. Very quirky. Many of you will remember “The Prisoner” filmed there many decades ago - it’s one that sticks in your mind.

It's a beautiful place. Xx

Anywhere on the coast. I haven’t seen the sea for six years.

I would go 150 miles to see my sister who is in a care home. The last time I saw her was the last day before lockdown and then only for 10 minutes in the hospital. She was very poorly then and I thought it might be the last time I saw her then.

Keswick, then Keswick again! We are booked to go in July but probably not going to happen but we will be up there for the day as soon as we can.

Perth. I have some lovely memories from there and the surrounding area. My husband remembers it because I actually allowed him to take closer up photographs with me in them.

We went to Portmerion a good number of years ago. Upon entering the centre of the village we discovered Cold Feet being filmed for television. A few of us were stood talking on the veranda at the far end of the water feature. As I was wearing a red blouse we were easily spotted when the episode was on television. We watched The Village last night which brought memories back of the tea shop where we enjoyed a cuppa and a lovely fresh scone.

We’re due to go on a Great Rail Journey holiday to Wales in September which includes a trip to Portmeiron. Was looking forward to it. Don’t know now if it is going ahead..

We were in Portmeirion last year, an enjoyable trip down memory lane for us. First visited about 52 years ago, half a dozen times over the years. If I could go anywhere it would be Caldey Island, it always gives me a sense of peace.

Congratulations patsytaylor, hope the photos and video calls are coming thick and fast, not the same I know but always lovely to see.

Went to Portmeiron years ago with DH and DD. The place was nice and interesting, but I had a salad with bugs in it at the cafe, and some horrible sweaty cheese!

Yes of course Callistemon. In this fantasy weekend the first day would be family meet-ups and hugs, and the second day for a trip out of your choice ?

Callistemon Wed 29-Apr-20 10:19:18

How exciting to have a new addition to the family, Patsytaylor and I hope you get to meet her and to see them all soon.

Callistemon Wed 29-Apr-20 10:18:22

I was assuming that I'd be allowed another day out to see the family!

Patsytaylor Wed 29-Apr-20 10:14:01

I would travel 100 miles to Worcester to see my granddaughter born on 27th March and her brother aged 4.

helgawills Wed 29-Apr-20 10:06:10

So many beautiful places around the country! My dog, too would love to visit a beach. Her favourite is Portobello, near Edinburgh. Extra benefit would be close to my daughter.

Callistemon Wed 29-Apr-20 10:05:39

We had a couple of nights at Portmeirion years ago, DH booked it for me as a treat for a special birthday. It wasn't that busy and we really enjoyed it.
The strange part was driving away and seeing normality as soon as we left the village.

As we won't be flying off any time soon we might go to the East Coast, although we will have to have more than a day.

West Wittering just to walk along the sandy beach and feel the sand between by toes, coffee in the cafe on the beach and a late lunch on our way home in a sun filled pub garden.

Jess20 Wed 29-Apr-20 09:56:20

I'm with you Beechnut, sand in my toes, a beach where I can take my little dog. Portmerion is lovely, had a beautiful day out there. Best time to go is when there's something big on TV, like an international footie or rugby match etc as may be fewer people out and about (works at Ikea too)

I went as a child when The Prisoner was being filmed

We saw Patrick McGoohan walking down the road and my father surreptitiously took a photo of him

I had no idea who he was. Knew nothing about the show. But I loved Portmeirion Village

Years later took my own children

Very busy indeed

I'd like to be able to go today and have the place almost to myself!

Anywhere I could meet up with my best friend from Wales. I saw her at Christmas and she was planned to visit me just before lockdown and obviously didn’t come. We have been friends since we were 9 and I’m now nearly 67. She is like my sister and I miss her so much

Maybelater2020 Wed 29-Apr-20 09:23:52

Love Llandudno too bikergran. A walk on the Great Orme would be good.

Maybelater2020 Wed 29-Apr-20 09:21:49

I would just love to take a 20 minute drive to Burton RSPB site in Cheshire. I would walk in the woods and enjoy the bluebells, maybe take some photographs, then spend some time birdwatching from the hides. Simple pleasures. I hope I don't miss the bluebells this year.

bikergran Wed 29-Apr-20 09:20:42

Llandudno for me (if the Goats haven't taken over)

I would stroll along the prom (its wide enough for many people

JenniferEccles Wed 29-Apr-20 09:10:13

We saw the programme and thought it would be lovely to go later on this year, depending on the virus situation of course.

I went as a child and can remember it so would love to have perhaps a long weekend there in one of the hotels.

I have a feeling we won’t be holidaying abroad this year!

Lucca Wed 29-Apr-20 09:05:01

Granny23. I lived in Portobello when I fairly recently married. My son was born there!
I thin’ id go to Hebden Bridge (not in the euphemistic sense ,!) and meet family there as it’s halfway.

Jane10 Wed 29-Apr-20 09:04:09

Yes Granny23 the sea is still there. I can see it from afar as I stare out the kitchen window waiting for the kettle to boil. There are several cruise ships an anchor out at sea.
My idea of a day out would just be to DDs for a family lunch with everyone.
