Our holiday abroad is booked for beginning July, I don't want to go considering the unprecedented situation.

I have friends who's holidays have been cancelled and are upset about it and wanted nothing more than to jet off to 'Sun, Sea & Sangria' ....

Can I ask other's view on their booked holiday..

Thank you smile

I can’t see your holiday happening, so the decision will not be yours.

We booked Centreparcs Longleat for July with family and a lodge sleeping 8. We paid the deposit and the balance was due now. The company emailed to say the payment has been deferred to 5 weeks before. I can't see it happening. Leisure centres and gyms may be the last to re-open. People whose Centreparcs holidays are booked to take place shortly can either have a refund or rebook another date. I am resigned to not going.

We only returned to the UK a couple of weeks before lockdown after our post Christmas few weeks away, normally we would book for summer and then the following year when we get home, we have booked flights and hotels for 2021 January and February in Pacific Mexico as we feel that by then this will all have calmed down again (we booked just before the deadline of travel insurance not covering cancellation costs so are covered on our policy as we dont book package holidays) I believe that anyone due to travel in the next few month that has booked a package will be cancelled anyway so if the companies cancel your trips then you will have the refund from them, dont cancel the trip as you wont be eligible for a refund if you do. The outcome of your booked trip will also depend upon circumstances in coutry not just here in the UK so hold your nerve as cancellation wont happen until the last minute. We were once cancelled less than 24 hours before we flew out and were already packed. Remember that they wont take you if the foreigh office advises against travel as when this happens you have no insurance throughout your trip.

We are booked to go to Italy with a reliable company at the end of June. I think it will be cancelled, but if flights etc were reinstated before then, we would be reluctant to go. We dont have to pay balance till mid May so if they haven't cancelled by then I think we will cancel. They will give us a credit note for our deposit so we will probably delay till next year. Though we really do feel like we need a holiday now.

I wouldn't be at all suprised if even when travel restrictions are lifted, insurance companies will either refuse to cover older people or make it so expensive that it will be unaffordable.

Just imagine if it were possible to go. It wouldn't be much of a holiday, with the constant worry of catching a deadly disease!

Esspee i was in the exact same place as yourself. with a trip booked for the Autumn to India. I contacted my travel agent and asked about what would happen if i cancelled now. They said i would loose deposit. After a chat with sister and sister inlaw we all agreed to do that. It felt like a weight off our shoulders, as none of us are spring chickens and the thought of one of us being ill whilst away with CV was so scarey. If we had waited to hear if FO cancelled further down the line we would have already paid full amount in Aug, plus visa costs, some vaccinations and malaria medications and the cost of booking transport to and from the airport. So loosing the deposit was not an issue. If you really dont want to take the chance then contact your agent and see where you stand. Good luck.

Ohhh esspee I know precisely what you mean ... and I hope your holiday is cancelled.... THAT sounds a terrible thing to say but in the current situation, you know the depth behind it....flowers

We were booked for our annual family jolly to Cornwall end May-that’s been put on hold. Next annual family jolly is end August to Minorca with Jet2. DH and I won’t go in any event but in reality think flights will be cancelled so should get a refund. A coach trip to Thursford is booked for November too. . .

I have a cruise booked for September. I don't want to go, for all the reasons already stated here. I have to pay the whole amount by the end of May, or cancel and lose the deposit.
Not sure what to do.

We are booked for 3 weeks in India towards the end of the year. I now don’t want to go, even if flights are resumed. My OH insists we will be going unless the FO forbids it as we are not getting any younger and want to visit India.
I am trying not to think about it.

Serendipity22 Wed 29-Apr-20 22:29:13

I have been on a few cruises in the past few years and despite the fact they were absolutely ammmmmmmzing, we weren't in the situation we are in now and yes, I agree GabriellaG54.. a cruise is the last type of holiday I would want to go on after all this.

I have reflected back to my time onboard and recoil in horror the amount of things that I touched that I never gave a second thought about and then toddled off to 1 of the restaurants for food !!!!!

Yes there were sanitizing hand wash disperses, and of course I used them, but considering everything* now*, it does make me think eeeeeeeeek .

GabriellaG54 Wed 29-Apr-20 22:00:02

Who'd want to go on a cruise? Surely not. Thousands of people and crew from all over the world, not people you could necessarily trust with handwashing etc and all congregating in the pools and dining areas, bars etc.
Madness...utter madness.

Apparently Germany have seen another spike in the number of 'victims' and they're warning other countries not to lift sanctions too soon.

Jane43 Wed 29-Apr-20 21:30:04

Have you looked on the Foreign Office website? I thought the advice was not to travel abroad for an indefinite period.

Blinko Wed 29-Apr-20 20:04:42

I can't see that anyone's going to be travelling abroad before Christmas at the rate we're going. So next year, if we're lucky.

GagaJo Wed 29-Apr-20 19:54:54

I'm supposed to fly back to Switzerland for 11th May for work. I don't want to. That feels far too soon for me. I'll reconsider beginning June.

Davidhs Wed 29-Apr-20 19:30:32

It’s highly unlikely that international holidays are going to be taken in July. If we are very lucky September may be possible, even UK hotels are going to be doubtful this summer.

Don’t cancel yourself you may have no refund rights, wait until they cancel then you will get a refund - eventually.

Brunette10 Wed 29-Apr-20 19:28:45

We are also booked on a cruise in July. We had given a substantial deposit away back and were encouraged to pay the final amount or fear of losing our whole deposit. We were informed that by doing so it would be better in the long term. We have paid the cruise in full now, we don’t want to go but I’m hoping since it’s fully paid and if it’s cancelled by them or us we shall get a full refund honoured. We shall wait and see.

We booked back in January for France in June. I have written it off as a coronavirus casualty. Our family were going to join us. Ah well. I haven't cancelled it but I can't see it going ahead. The airline hasn't cancelled either. Perhaps we can postpone for next year. although when a friend tried to postpone her wedding she was told the venue was already booked for 2021! Her wedding is in July.

We have a holiday booked for September. We’ve paid the deposit and the balance is due in June. I did read somewhere that to get a full refund we have to pay the balance otherwise we would be in breach of contract and so not eligible for a refund.

I am loathe to pay the balance, but there is also the ‘disinclination to travel’ aspect I have also read about which could happen if the holiday goes ahead but we don’t want to go. In that case my understanding is we wouldn’t be entitled to a refund.

We will wait till we hear from the travel agent.

Thank you everyone for your replies.... smile

Thank you Tengerine smile

We were due a UK break 6th April.
Our money is in a holding account for 12 mths. However that is effectively only 8mths as I wouldn't consider going away until at least September even then it would depend on the situation.

I have a holiday booked for late August/September at Warmers Nidd Hall near Harrogate .
I have paid my deposit with the local travel firm in Banbury, and final due late June .
I am hoping that situation changes over the coming weeks and the local; travel firm are back in business.
