Do you have a recurring dream?

I retired from teaching over ten years ago but I still have dreams about impending OFSTED visits. I taught primary but I was never confident at teaching Y6 maths so in my recurring dream I have avoided teaching maths to my class all year and I’m worried about how I’m going to explain this to the inspector. Still, it has replaced the dream about not having done any revision for my A levels.

i used to have a dream very like the Lloyd's Bank advert. It came at a time when I needed moral support.

Yes I lose my bag/phone, need to get in touch with family but can't, need to catch a train/plain but can't, I wake stressed and relieved it was a dream!

Yes, I have a few, that I've had since childhood.

The details vary, but they follow the same themes.

My poor OH used to have a recurring dream that he was taking his 11+ - he would wake up in a dreadful panic.

Last night I dreamed about him for the first time since he died - he was young and well.

I used to have very vivid dreams about reversing my car downhill and the brakes not working. I saw an item which said this particular dream (not uncommon, apparently) was because the dreamer felt that their life was out of control - and this was quite true in my case.

Then I met and subsequently married my DH and I have never had that dream again!

Anyone had a dream which was so funny you woke up laughing?
Mine was...I was in a night club, low lights, smoky, only the stage lit. A girl appeared, doing the dance of the seven veils. Finally only the last veil was left... when that was cast off, the Big Reveal...ta-da! she was a he !
And i laughed out loud. And woke up, still laughing grin

Ever since childhood I have had a reoccurring dream, in which I am wandering around a large house - like an old stately home. Sometimes the rooms are furnished and sometimes they're not. I often find myself wandering down corridors and also into rooms off other rooms. The house is always mine and I never feel worried or scared - just intrigued and curious. I visit this dream house a few times each year.

I am walking down a hill in bright sunshine to a village in the distance. It gradually becomes dark and the village never gets any closer. Dream comes when I am stressed or upset.

Not a dream as such - but I very often lie in bed and share the spoils of my lottery win before I fall asleepgrin

Sometimes its a very very big win, other times its quite a modest sum - carving it up is a surprisingly complicated process!

The one thing I always start with is telling my OH that he absolutely must not disclose the amount we've won to anyone.

Having my handbag (which I rely on very very much) stolen. I always wake up very distressed and have to turn around and make sure it is there (I keep it at the side of the bed so it’s easily accessible but sleep with my back to it)

I had one of my recurring dreams last night.

This time I was on my way to work, and was waylaid every step of the way, getting increasingly upset, knowing I'd let everyone down and that I was in trouble.

Then I woke up and had to go to work for real.

Reading this thread I’ve just realised I haven’t had my recurring dream for ages.

Don’t have any recurring dreams, but probably dream every night. Wish I could remember more details, often try to relate them to DH in the morning, and realise how daft they are.

Witzend Fri 08-May-20 08:43:14

I’ve had several in the past, not so much now.

About a large house I’ve never seen, but knew intimately. Had this one so many times.

Exams - usually a German lit exam is imminent and not only I have I not read any of the books, I don’t even know what they are!

Christmas - it’s about 4 pm on Christmas Eve, and I’ve forgotten to buy any presents, a tree, or anything.

Dinner party (haven’t had this one for many years) - it’s nearly 11 pm and the potatoes still aren’t cooked!

Oh Bossyrossy, so glad I'm not the only one who has a recurring dream involving OFSTED!
I retired 9 years ago and still occasionally dream of not being prepared for the inspection, children behaving like little monsters or the fact that there was nothing in their books to prove they had learnt anything.
Often it's a variation on a theme of chaos and lack of preparation and it crops up when I'm stressed.
Funny really as I'm a very organised person in real life. ?

I still dream about my ex although we've been divorced for 15 years. Last night he was rearranging my patio and had installed a sofa and a nice yellow curtain, removed the planters and allowed the neighbours in. We never speak in the dreams though we do in real life. smile

I've had two recurring dreams for many years. One is that I'm climbling a tree to avoid being drowned by a huge tidal wave.
The other is that I'm in a park full of happy people but I'm completely invisible so no-one sees me or speaks to me.
I don't have these dreams as often as I used to, thank goodness, because they always leave me feeling upset in the morning.

Charleygirl5 Fri 08-May-20 10:51:48

Yes- I won an obscene amount of money and I paid off many GNs mortgages, and I helped two, in particular, to retire in peace. I have had this dream frequently.
