I see that the guidelines now say no more than 15 children in a reception class - that's a bit of new information. Quite who is going to take the classes hasn't been decided I suppose, because of course reception class teachers can be anyone can't they? it's not a specialist area at all. It's all been so well thought out hasn't it?!!!

To those who can't seem to understand what Boris is telling us, surely to God you can understand the professional people standing either side of him, people he defers to and back up what he is saying in simple, baby language that my 10 year old grandson can understand?! Boris did say that as from today we can relax a little over outside exercise (the scientists backed him) next week certain of us can go back to work with provisos, cautiously and carefully. Rogue employers are to be reported. Use common sense, ask if you are unsure! What's so difficult not to understand? Incidentally our refuge collectors have been and are working through this pandemic, with two of them in the lorry as usual so presumably other people can also devise similar ways to work collectively and safely!

Trisher, I loved your post! As a Reception teacher for many years, I used to watch with interest as those who opted for this year group( we were 3form entry) “ because it’s a doddle isn’t it? ) were virtually nervous wrecks well before the Spring term! ?

It is just as well that Starmer only had 6 minutes to question Johnson. As it was Johnson failed to reply to a single question posed to him from the wording in the 50 page document.

This is the prime minister for gods sake. We are all entitled to expect him to at the very least answer to the document he has apparently produced.

Interestingly the scientists have made it clear that they were not consulted before the various stages were decided on, so Johnson is being guided only by himself.

In regard to those enquiring as to my style of writing in my posts on this forum, I can assure them that only I ever type or use voice recognition to make those posts.

In regard to using a formal style of writing that is without doubt because much of what I type or dictate in the course of my work has to be formal as those documents often go forward to company employee disciplinary or grievance hearings or the Industrial Courts (industrial tribunals).

The Legal Secretaries in the company always proofread all documents I and others compile before adding their own findings to such documents. They always write very formally and therefore I always TRY to emulate that so as not to give them to much work in editing my documents.

At home and for this forum, I do try to write less formally, but as some have noticed after spending at times all day writing in a formal manner I do not always succeed, or it comes out as a mixture of the two. ?

Anyway, coffee break over, back to the working grindstone.

Nanna58 I know and add to that the effort of trying to social distance them and not touch them!!!! I did Reception a couple of times in my career and coped (just) but it left me with everlasting respect for those who did it year in year out. And were brilliant at it.

If you are worried about yourselves, or your youngsters, going back to work in a situation where COVID prevention preparations have not been made e.g. proper PPE, plastic barriers, enough hand sanitation and much, much more, advise them to join a union asasp. The union can take the flack, if they need to complain. If they make the complaint themselves, they run the risk of being sacked. Yes, this has happened.

Most TAs my children had were more than capable of covering classes and several were ex teachers.

If it takes a TA AND a teacher to manage a class of 30 then you can easily have 15 in a room with one or the other

The KS1 classes are often split into smaller groups anyway: one with the TA and one with the teacher so I wouldnt see there being a problem.

The teacher is responsible for overall planninv but the TAs do a lot of the delivering anyway

notanan2, how can one individual ensure that 15 5 year olds maintain social distance. How can the staff member maintain distance from a child who is distressed and needs a hug?
who is going to ensure every surface, every pencil, every piece of equipment is sanitised between classes.
I know the children need to return to school but I don't think it as simple as you suggest, that if one teacher and one ta can manage a class of 30, two classes of 15 is a doddle
