Listening to the reading of John Berger's book 'A Fortunate Man' on Radio 4 Extra, I was shocked to learn that Berger and photographer Jean Mohr (another man), when 'shadowing' Berger's friend the doctor on his rounds, were present at the doctor's examinations of his female patients. Berger actually describes one woman as having 'a white breast'! He uses some pretty evocative language describing the patients (to use a term from Berger's own ideology) as if they are 'the other'. I found listening to this very distasteful. I know this took place some 40 years ago, but am surprised they got away with it even then, and surprised no trigger warning from the BBC, which they seem to be so fond of!
