Is anyone else wondering what today will bring ? Having just heard that my ex is driving 60 miles to do a distanced visit to relatives, which is fine but will the roads suddenly be full of people off to play golf etc .? It will be strange.

Would those now taking to the road today, some just for the sake of doing it, feel justified when RTA numbers rise, allowing them the opportunity to thank NHS staff personally as opposed to clapping once a week?

I am willing to stay put here in Scotland until lockdown is slightly eased.

I am having a day at home today as I've been out to my local shop Monday & yesterday, shopping for myself & neighbour who is self isolating.

Tomorrow I am meeting my DD, keeping 2 metres apart, I'm missing her & DGSs but can only see her which will be lovely, we can have a proper chat.

I live in one of the Gateway Towns for Dartmoor & we've seen an increase in both cyclists & traffic for the last few weeks, I expect there will be an increase in traffic if the weather stays sunny.

I will continue as before, using smaller shops rather than large supermarkets. I carry hand sanitizer in my pocket/handbag, gloves & wipes permanently in my car. I practice "social distancing" when out & get extremely annoyed when others don't hmm

Think people are sometimes forgetting
Toilets apparently if you poo and then flush without seat down you may be putting the virus in the air
They just don’t know

Oopsadaisy3 Wed 13-May-20 10:42:23

On the bright side though, anyone who needs a ventilator on ICU can get one. After all that’s what this has all been about, protecting the NHS from meltdown, there is no cure for this Virus yet.
The same risks are all still out there, the virus hasn’t gone away.

Magic indeed ???
Instead of driving to the coast I decided to drive to surprise my daughter in York.
I picked up the car at 6am and I'm just a few doors down the road from her home.

She has no idea I'm here and I've just rung to ask how she is and general chit-chat.
In a minute I will call again and drive to her garden gate and she'll wonder why the second call. I know she'll scream and run down the garden as we haven't seen each other since November '19.
I hope she doesn't cry...?
It's quite emotional...

GrannyGravy13 Wed 13-May-20 10:46:46

Oh GabriellaG54 how wonderful for you both, what a surprise ?

Aepgirl Wed 13-May-20 10:47:44

A local golf course has been open for walkers to exercise throughout the pandemic, but people are asked to keep their dogs on leads (and clear up after them) and not let children play in the bunkers. So people have objected ‘Why can’t my child play in the sand?’, and ‘why can’t my dog run free?’

It beggars belief.

Tooyoungytobeagrandma Wed 13-May-20 10:47:58

Calendar girl I do hope that estate agents are opening. I am desperate to view and offer on a house so that I can get away from my stbxh who I have been stuck with in lockdown. I'll happily wear a hazmat suit if necessary. As soon as our house completes I can get away. I'm happy for the removal people to work however they need to to keep safe and will keep away from them but the thought of nothing happening for another few months could seriously too much to bear. At least if I'm in thd process of purchasing the end will seem in sight?

EllanVannin Wed 13-May-20 10:51:56

I imagine the roads aren't too busy either. So long as everyone doesn't have the same idea smile

Keeper1 Wed 13-May-20 10:52:25

Thing will not change for me. I am working from home and will continue to do so as my husband and is high risk. Our house is on the market and we have always had accompanied viewings and I have taken my husband out when these have been happening. I think for now I would have to refuse any viewings unless we can ensure strict hygiene rules.

Notright Wed 13-May-20 10:53:38

It takes months to sell and buy a house so the move won't be possibly when it's all over. Hopefully.

Puzzler61 Wed 13-May-20 10:58:05

My thoughts are we have to take some steps towards unlocking the country and the Governmenment scientists and medics
expect that as we do, the number of deaths will rise a little again.
But a lot more folk will get the virus - and not need a hospital or die. We need apparently for more of the population to have the virus for it to pass through. It isn’t going away no matter how long we leave it shut out of our homes and lives. We may have it in our communities for years and years.
My DH has gone to Golf today but he showed me the very strict rules in place by the Golf governing body applying to social distancing and Club house closed.
(He is well under 70 - no health conditions).

If the person who spat on the transport worker is caught they should be charged with manslaughter.

Esspee Wed 13-May-20 11:01:47

I suspect today in England will see mass movement of the population followed by a huge spike in cases.

12Michael Wed 13-May-20 11:01:52

For those over 70 , the rules have not changed , I have just seen an update on the Anchor-Hanover Residents website in the news area under COVD-19 heading.
And it states , that residents can meet not outside the buildings but at locations away from it, such as in the town itself but the 2M distancing still applies ,relatives or not.
The Government as sending out mixed massages ,and the media are interpreting things other than laid down .

Just to see my son talking about playing golf again makes me so happy. I will never take anything for granted again.

Gingergirl Wed 13-May-20 11:11:51

It’s still quite quiet here today (in south east of uk). I expect the weekend will be busier and anyway, I think a lot of people have done their own easing of lockdown already! I’m just hoping people refuse to use public transport if they’re crammed in today...

Rosiebee Wed 13-May-20 11:13:58

I seriously think we need a Minister of Logic. I can drive to a park to meet my stepson, [he will also have to drive to park] where there will probably be lots of other folk, but he cannot come and sit in the garden - at a distance - to have a chat. He doesn't need to come through the house to access garden. DH and I had the virus in March so I don't even think we are at serious risk. Nobody has thought anything through at all.

Craftycat Wed 13-May-20 11:14:08

Went down to supermarket for a couple of bits this morning & everything very quiet.Did not see any of the shops that have been closed were open & queues outside all the banks but that has been the case every day anyway. WHY do people need to visit a bank unless they are collecting foreign currency. Surely most people do it all online these days & cash points everywhere too. I haven't set foot inside a bank for decades.
Maybe people were expecting town to be busy today & are staying at home.

MawB Wed 13-May-20 11:21:54

Good heavens GabriellaG you must have done it non-stop to drive about 250 miles by 10 o clock?
All for a one on one walk in the park?
OK I suppose I must admit to being jealous because I thought we over 70’s were not really meant to venture so far and oddly found that isolation from my AC easier to take when I felt we were all in the same boat sad

EEJit Wed 13-May-20 11:26:02

Let up or not, I'm staying isolated for a while longer.

NannyC2 Wed 13-May-20 11:30:52

For our sanity, we cannot live in fear. I tend to agree with Puzzler61's comments.
There is no guarantee that a vaccine will be forthcoming and it is important to remember that the longer we are confined, our immunity system will weaken as a matter of course. Vitamin D is important for our well being.

Nannan2 Wed 13-May-20 11:33:19

Im past caring what the day will bring- its just one disaster after another!!! Ive spent part of yesterday& a sleepless night worrying even more as a well known online shopping group took 2 payments of £750 instead of one- and spent all morning again on phone to them and bank trying to sort it out- only find the holiday company have refunded me to an a card now paid already!! So ive to ring them as well!(another premium rate number) oh & all the fun places(restaurants, pubs, hairdressers etc) arent opening till day AFTER my birthday!!! I give upconfusedangry

Lucca Wed 13-May-20 11:34:18

Gabriella a lovely surprise for your daughter.
Two years ago in different times I turned up at my sons 40th birthday party unannounced......in Sydney!

Bijou Wed 13-May-20 11:36:42

I am housebound anyway but have watched what is going on via TV. And reports by Gransnetters. People getting on and off buses and the underground etc in towns. Not keeping distance in shops etc.
My home help comes to do those tasks impossible for me to do and I stay in a different room. I have had a shouted conversation with my neighbour opposite across our front gardens and the road.
So far only two mild cases in our village.
